Once Loved, Twice Broken

~Belleann I wasn’t bothered or surprised anymore by the sinister laughter that erupted each time I walked into the pack housemaid’s quarter. I just had gotten accustomed to it. Gazes were fixed on me as I walked over to my bed space. It had been one hell of a hectic day; washing, cleaning, cooking. I was however unbothered as I knew it was my last time getting involved in things like that. Silence immediately followed as I lay on the bed and began to crochet a piece of wear I wanted to give out to my lover. “I hear the Alpha is getting mated tomorrow.” My bunkmate spoke to her friend. I, on the other hand, was quiet as a smile formed on my face. It was pleasing imagining the shock that would be on their faces when they found out I was the one our Alpha; Alpha Tyrone had chosen as his mate. They were all oblivious to the fact that we had been having an affair for a year. “So I heard….” The other responded. “Do you know who she is?” She questioned but my roommate shook her head. The smile on my face immediately dissipated as I lifted my head and my gaze landed on Colleen whose bed space was adjacent to mine. Her stares seemed to penetrate through my soul and the last thing I wanted to do was breed suspicions. She stared at me and I stared right back at her, my face void of emotions. I wasn’t going to let her stares intimidate me this time. For a couple of seconds, we stared at each other with neither of us wanting to back down. “It is time for dinner!” One of the maids called out and quickly, everyone ran out of the room. It was a usual practice as no one wanted to starve. Our room which housed eighteen maids, was always the last to be visited as the room contained maids who weren’t considered useful, and who constantly got into fights and issues or the mateless ones. I walked out as well, keeping my eyes on Colleen. She barely talked to me or anyone else but her gaze was always on me. It was creepy. Lazily, I joined the queue of the maids to be served. The line seemed to be going too slow until the head maid yelled. “Eat as much as you want! The Lycan King is coming tomorrow and some of you might not get to see the light of the next day!” A shudder ran through my spine. Of course, I have heard of how dangerous the Lycan King was and what he does to the maids he takes away. I shrugged the thoughts off immediately. The head maid immediately regretted her actions as every one of the maids fought to get more than enough leaving some hungry; me included I was however at peace with my soon-to-be reality. Throughout that night, I had stayed up, crocheting the wear as I wanted my lover; the Alpha to wear it when he announced his love for me to everyone. ** “Hey! Wake up!” A tap on my shoulder suddenly made me flutter my eyes open. How could I have slept for so long? “You shouldn’t be late for the Alpha’s ceremony, you know?” Colleen warned and I nodded. “The Alpha hates it so much.” She added before turning to leave. I knew the head maid would be upset if she got to know I was still indoors. I wanted my relationship and that of the Alpha to come as a surprise to them all. Gently, I brought out the dress he had given to me to wear for the event. I had hidden it to make sure no one knew about it. With my hopes raised high, I got dressed quickly and headed to the hall where the ceremony was already going on. I could see the shock embedded in each of their faces as I made my way into the hall. A smile formed on my face instead. “What are you doing here?” The head maid seized me immediately, her brows furrowed as she scanned me from head to toe. “Dressed like this? It is the Alpha’s ceremony, not your birthday party.” She let go of me. “Did you steal it? Tell me, Belleann.., did.. you.. steal..it?” She ensured to stress each word. “What, no! I did not steal anything!” I let out a sigh and lowered my head. “The Alpha gave it to me,” I revealed. I wasn’t supposed to but that was the only way out. “Wait, what?” Elle sprung up from nowhere with a loud laughter of mockery. I rolled my eyes as I sighted her. She was the head maid's most special maid hence she was at liberty to know what she wanted. She was one hell of a bully. “The Alpha gave you what? “ She laughed again. “You thief, confess.. you stole the dress.” She folded her arms and joined the head maid. “Well, believe it or not, the Alpha gave it to me. If I were you, I would begin to act so nice and sweet to me before the Alpha sees you.” I let out a half smile. She was quiet for a while before she passed the head maid a smile and let out a sardonic laughter. “What are you? The Alpha’s mate? The Luna?” “Yes,” I responded immediately, causing the head maid's brows to arch and of course, a frown to form on her face but my response was met with another laughter from Elle. “Wake up from your slumber, young lady.” She responded, sounding so confident. “Be my guest,” I responded immediately and tried to leave. “Believe it or not, the Alpha is my mate and he gave me this dress to wear to this occasion." “In your wildest imagination, dearie. “ She kissed her teeth and chuckled. “You.. be my guest.” She responded and showed me the way to the door, a wide smile on her face. My legs began to wobble as I struggled to take each step. Although I tried to assure myself that nothing was wrong, her words were troubling and for a second, I was worried. What if things didn’t go as planned? “You shouldn’t be hesitant to go in. “ She drew my attention to reality and I let out a sigh. I was confident in the fact that he would never leave me hence I went in immediately. “Get ready to bow to your Luna,” I muttered gently before walking in. The attention I got the moment I walked in was the last thing I expected as all gazes were fixated on me. My heart was shattered at the sight of another woman with my lover, claiming him as her mate and vis versa. I felt cold yet so hot. My eyes became teary but I wasn’t ready to make a mockery of myself. Alpha William had not just married any other woman but my sister! I stood there in shock, staring at them both. I forgot to blink for a second as I still couldn’t grasp what was going on. William stared at me, sadness evident in his eyes. My sister on the other hand had a wide smile etched on her face. “I told you, didn’t I?” Elle spoke. “Now you ended up humiliating yourself.” Lost for words, my feet took a swift turn to leave the hall but I was immediately brought to a halt when my sister yelled. “Thief!”
