A Spark.

Deacon's POV. I had expected her to be inquisitive, but not to that extent. She did surprise me though, when she told me she was already aware of who I was. From my experience with humans, I was already expecting her to be terrified of me, and yell at me to stay away from her, imagine how shocked I was to see her so calm and unperturbed. To be honest, I was scared to tell her about the mate bond. I tried to avoid it but it was inescapable. She had to know and I had to be the one to tell her. But then she mentioned the conspiracy theory thing and I immediately knew what she was getting at. Most people just believe the existence of werewolves to be a myth-- we want it that way. But only a few people are strong minded enough to not be fooled by the glamour. Werewolves have been, long before the humans ever were. The early humans accepted us, they warmed up to us and cohabited with us, but as generations passed, enmity rose between the wolves and humans. They were envious of our immortality and started killing us whenever we crossed paths. We all had to move to the woods for safety and that is where we have been ever since. When my father told me the story of how the humans turned on us, I was so pissed that I wanted to kill them all. But according to him, war would only lead to more war and there is no way we can overpower the humans, especially in these times. We only have teeth and claws meanwhile they have many gadgets that can wipe us out. That doesn't mean we are scared of them though, we are just against unnecessary bloodshed. We have been sitting in silence ever since I told her that humans are hunting werewolves down, but from the look in her eyes, I can tell that it is far from quiet in her head. I can see the wheels running in her mind. "What are you thinking about?" At the sound of my voice, her eyes snap up to my face, wide and startled. She begins to shake her head, her eyes moving from left to right. "Why?" She asks "Why would they want you dead?" "It is a long story. You shouldn't bother yourself with it" She nods and takes a deep breath, standing up from the couch and walking into what looks like the kitchen. "Are you sure you don't want anything to drink?" She calls from the small space, her voice sounding slightly muffled. "Water is fine" I yell back. Seconds later, she is coming out with a glass of water in one hand and a jug in the other. "There's orange juice in the jug if you want" She says as she hands me the glass. I am about to tell her that I obviously do not want any juice, but my words are cut off when I feel a sudden sting. She obviously feels it too because she suddenly lets go of the glass and flinches back with a little shriek. I realize that it happened when my skin touched hers, just like the other day in the lecture hall. I suddenly feel wet on my lap, and I look down to see the glass of water laying sideways on the couch in between my thighs, its content spilled on the couch and onto my jeans. I curse under my breath and jump up, pulling at my jeans to stop the wet contact with my skin. "s**t, I'm so sorry" She rushes to the couch and picks up the cup, stopping the rest of the water from spilling onto the cushion and the rug. She rushes into the kitchen and comes back with two towels, she hands me one and uses the other to soak the wet couch. Fortunately, the water didn't spill much onto my jeans and after a few moments, the wetness subsides. She stands up from the floor where she was soaking the wet carpet and clears her throat, giving me an awkward glance. "Uhm... I guess I could find a pair of jeans that fits you..." She pulls her lips to the side and eyes me attentively, probably measuring my size in her head. "There's no need for that. Mine is almost dried anyway" I dismiss the idea immediately. We can't have any more awkwardness than this. She nods and moves to sit on the other couch, folding the towel in her hand. I take the ottoman chair on the other end and stare at her, waiting for the question I feel she is about to ask. Soon enough, she leans forward in her seat and clears her throat again. "So uhm... The spark... What the hell is that about?" She asks "Why does it keep happening?" "I don't know about that. I have never really heard of a situation where a literal spark occurs between mates before" I tell her honestly. "It kinda hurts" Her mouth pulls into a small pout as she looks down at her hand. A red splotch on her elbow catches my attention and I rush to her before I can pace myself, kneeling before her and grabbing her arm. She flinches back when I touch her, but after a while, she relaxes. I study the faint bruise carefully, my eyes squinted at the redness of the area. It almost looks like a burn. I dab my fingers at it cautiously and she winces slightly. "When did you get this?" I ask, looking up at her. I see her brows furrowed and her face set in a frown as she also studies the red bruise on her arm. "I'm not sure..." "Does it hurt too much?" I dab on the wound again and she hisses lowly. "Yes. Yes it does" "It looks like a burn" "That is the part that hurt the most whenever I feel the spark" She says "Do you think it has anything to do with that?" "Maybe" I mumble "Do you have a first aid kit?" "Yea. It should be just over there" She points to a small cupboard leaning against the wall. I rise to my feet and walk to it, opening the first drawer and seeing the kit in there. I grab it and crouch in front of her once more. I tap on the cooling ointment with a cotton swab and rub it on the bruise lightly. She shifts uncomfortably but doesn't make a sound. I instinctively blow on the wound and I feel her whole body freeze, her hand going limp in my grip. I look up to see her looking at me with eyes as wide as plates. I clear my throat softly and grab the bandage, wrapping it around the wound to ease the awkwardness. The moment I'm done, I return the first aid kit and move back to the ottoman chair as silence falls over us. "You seemed pretty skilled." I look up when I hear her voice, low but cheery. "Are you used to cleaning wounds?" "We fight battles all the time, I normally clean the wounds of my pack members if I can't heal them" "If you can't heal them? Do you have healing abilities?" "Yes. But it is not as awesome as you think. I can only make a few wounds disappear" "Even that is awesome" She hums "Where is your pack?" "Faraway in the woods" I drawl dramatically and she rolls her eyes. A soft chuckle escapes my lips at her childish action. "I'm serious" She says. "Funnily enough, so am I. The town is too dangerous for us so we only come out once in a while. But we dwell in the woods" "I thought you said you aren't scared of humans" "We aren't" "Then why not live in the town?" She shrugs. "That would just be asking for trouble. Besides, we feel safer and more at home in the woods. Most of us were born and bred there" She furrows her brows and bites her lip, her eyes going to the rug as she seems to be thinking deeply on something, then she looks up, and her eyes meet mine. There is something I never noticed before about her eyes, they are deeper than they seem and if you look closely, you would realize that their color is a combination of two shades of one color. Blue. It is very unique, at the same time very ominous. In the world of wolves, only heirs have such features but here, I'm sure people just find it attractive. Her eyes where what drew my wolf to her in the first place and that was how I knew she was mine, but I never really noticed the intrinsic feature in them. My wolf went so wild with excitement the moment he saw her, that I had to keep it blocked for this meeting. I am definitely going to get an earful after this. I watch her as she fights inwardly with herself before speaking up. "Uhm... Would you take me there?" "Where?" I ask with a frown, not quite sure of where she is referring to. I wait patiently for her to say her next words, although they make me pull my brows together in a frown. "Your pack"
