HARMONY’S POINT OF VIEW “Harmony, I know you’re in there! Why aren’t you opening the door huh?” I started to move faster the moment I heard my landlady started to knock hard on my door’s apartment. She is here again to remind me about the payment for my apartment’s rent for this month, but I feel sorry for her because I still haven’t received my payment from my job for this month so I still wasn’t able to pay her today. “Harmony if you won’t open this door I will open it by myself! You know I have a spare key to every room in this apartment including yours!” My landlady said while she is still knocking on my door. After I finished preparing myself for school for this day, I carefully head towards my bathroom and carefully lifted the small window inside. After completely opening the window, I throw my bag outside and go up to the window by stepping on the toilet bowl. I can still hear my landlady’s voice while still knocking on my door so I just silently apologize to her before jumping outside. “Ah! Thank goodness my room is on the first floor because if it’s on the second floor I won’t be able to escape!” I said as I head outside and picked up my bag laying on the ground. After removing the dust from my bag as well as to my skirt, I immediately started to run towards the main gate of my apartment’s building, and just like that I successfully escaped my landlady for this day. Geez! I am so sorry Ms. Landlady but don’t worry I will be able to pay the rent for this month later since today is my payday in the restaurant I am currently working part-time and tomorrow is my payday in the bar where I am also working as a part-timer and the next day to the other restaurant I am currently working as a part-timer as well. Maybe you are thinking why do I have a lot of jobs? Do I have a child that I need to feed? None! In fact, I am just living by myself ever since I was 18 years old after I left the orphanage that took care of me since I was born in this world. Yeah, I am an orphan since the day I was born and I am quite fine with that since the staff of the orphanage made me feel like I am their own daughter and feed me with not only food but also the love and care which made me forgot that I am orphan.  “Harmony?” I only came back to my senses when I heard a familiar voice call me while I am walking here on the sidewalk. “Oh, Genevieve!” I said to my best friend as I saw her inside her car.  “Hey! This is quite rare to see you walking here at this time.” She said while smiling at me which made me smile too. “Well, my landlady is the reason for this,” I said. Genevieve is just so surprised seeing me here at the sidewalk walking by myself at this time because usually at this hour I am already in our room reading our lectures or sometimes if the librarian needs an assistant I am there at the library to assist her. “Ah, since this is so rare to happen! Why don’t you ride with me?” Genevieve asked me with a smile on her face. “Ah, is it okay?” I asked her which made her roll her eyes before looking at me and speaking. “Of course! Harmony we have been best friends since we were freshmen and you are still asking me that kind of question?” Genevieve asked me while her brows were raising at me which made me smile.  “I am so sorry, I am just kind of feel embarrassed to ride in your luxurious car,” I said while smiling at her awkwardly and scratching the back of my head. Genevieve just shakes her head at me before heading outside the car and opening the door of her car’s backseat. “You don’t need to feel embarrassed Harmony, I am your best friend for years now and I feel like you are my sister already so I am just hoping that you are going to feel the same way,” Genevieve said before heading inside the backseat of her car.  “Come inside now! You don’t want to be late.” Genevieve continued as she tapped the space beside her. I just nod at her with a smile on my face before heading inside and sitting beside her. “By the way, are you free later?” Genevieve asked me while we are on our way to the university which made me look at her before answering. “Ah, no I have my duty later at the restaurant I am currently working at,” I said which made her pout while she is looking at me. “You are always busy Harmony! We have been best friends since we were freshmen and we were just able to bond for one time! Harmony, one time, and we have been best friends for three years!” Genevieve said which made me shake my head at her while smiling still before answering. “You know my reason, Genevieve. I need to work because if I will not work then I will not be able to pay my rent as well as support my daily needs. I need to work in order to survive Genevieve so I am apologizing if I wasn’t able to bond with you again.” I said which made her let out a heavy sigh. “I told you, why don’t you just work in our company. My parents also want you to work in our company so you can have the break you deserve. You told me that your life has been like this ever since you were 18 years old, I think you need give the break your body need.” Genevieve said which made me smile. I grabbed her hand first before speaking which made her look at me.  “Tell Uncle and Auntie that I am so thankful for their offer but you have helped me a lot and that is enough. If I will accept that offer again, I feel like I am just taking advantage of your kindness to me and I didn’t want to feel that way.” I said while smiling at her. Genevieve just let out a heavy sigh before speaking. “But if ever you need help just remember that I am always here for you okay? Don’t be shy to approach me because I am your best friend and there is no reason to be shy towards me right?” Genevieve said so I just nod at her while smiling. “Yeah, I will do that Genevieve,” I said while smiling at her. “Promised me that you will truly ask for my help,” Genevieve said while laying her pinky finger in front of me so I just let out a heavy sigh before making a pinky promise with her.  “Promised,” I said which made her smile. After that, we just continue talking about what happened to me earlier and how I was able to escape again from my landlady. “Are you sure you can pay for your rent later?” Genevieve asked me so I just nod at her before speaking. “Yeah, today is my payday in one of the restaurants I am currently working at and since their payment is kind of decent I will be able to pay for my rent and buy some groceries later after my shift,” I said which made Genevieve’s face sparkles as if a good idea pops up inside her head. “What time is your shift going to end?” She asked me which made me frown. Even though I am quite a skeptic on telling her the end of my shift my mouth moved on its own and answered Genevieve’s question. “At 6:00 in the evening,” I said which made her smile and nod. “Hmm, okay!” She said before looking in front while her lips is flashing a smile. I just shake my head at her secretly before fixing myself when we entered the university’s main gate. After parking the car, we immediately head outside the car and walk towards our classroom.  “What’s our first class today?” Genevieve asked me while we are walking together. “Ah, it’s marketing,” I said which made Genevieve frown. “Geez! It’s that professor again right?” Genevieve asked me which made me look at her. “Professor Hue?” I asked her. “Yeah, that terror professor that always held unannounced recitation almost like every day!” Genevieve said which made me giggle because honestly I kind of feel the same way. “Don’t worry, only 5 months left and we will be able to leave this university which includes Professor Hue,” I said and then looked at Genevieve. “You’re right, 5 months left and our graduation will come. Geez! Time flies truly fast huh?” Genevieve said which made me look at her. “Yeah, I never thought I will be able to survive this university life. Thank goodness this university is so courteous to a student like me.” I said while smiling.  “It is also because of you Harmony, you are smart and hardworking and our university was able to see that. And you are also aware that the owner of this university has our data right so I know that they knew you are a working student so they are not removing your scholarship.” Genevieve said which made me nod. “Yeah, but I am still thankful for them because if it wasn’t for them then I didn’t know if I will be able to study in a prestigious university like this,” I said while smiling. “Ms. Harmony?” I and Genevieve immediately looked behind us as we heard a male’s voice that called my name. As we turned around, we saw this unfamiliar third-year student while he is looking at us. “Ahm, yes?” I said while raising my brow at him. “Ahm, I am so sorry for barging in all of a sudden but the president of this school wants to talk with you.” He said which immediately made me so nervous while thinking what might be the reason why the president of this school needs to talk to me except about my scholarship. “Ah, okay, okay. Thank you.” I said while smiling at him even though I feel like I am going to collapse any minute from now because of the nervousness I am feeling right now. The student that informed me just nod at me before walking away from us when he was not in my sight anymore I immediately looked at Genevieve with full of worries on my face. “Hey, Harmony you need to calm down okay? I am sure that your scholarship is not the issue here so you don’t need to worry.” Genevieve said while holding both of my hands and squeezing them gently. “Are you sure? What if my scholarship is the issue here? Oh my goodness! I can’t let my scholarship get taken away from me. I need to finish my study, Genevieve!” I said as my tears started to build in my eyes. “Why don’t you just calm down first and head towards the president’s office so you will be able to know the real reason okay?” Genevieve said so I just nod at her before we started walking together. Yeah, Genevieve also came with me to make sure that I will be fine. As we arrived at the president’s office, she just squeezed my hands again before tapping my back and telling me to head inside. Before heading inside the office, I just knocked three times on the door first and head inside.  “Good morning President McMillan,” I said as I head inside the office.  “Oh! Harmony you are finally here, don’t you have any class right now?” President McMillan said as he stands up from his seat and walk towards me.  “Ah, I have a class this 8:00 in the morning but a third-year student told me that you need me here so I immediately came here since it’s just 7:15 in the morning,” I said while smiling at him. “Don’t worry this won’t take too long. Have a seat first.” President McMillan said so I just nod at him before heading towards the chair in front of his table. “By the way, I called you here because I need to ask for a favor.” President McMillan said while he is holding a folder in his hand.  “Hmm, what is it, President?” I asked him and he just handed over the folder he is holding. As I got the folder from him, I immediately opened it and saw the biodata of a third-year student. “Ahm, who is this President?” I asked him while reading the biodata of this third-year male student named Marcus McMillan. Wait, McMillan? “That is my only nephew, Marcus McMillan, and as you can see on his biodata his grades are kind of below our university’s standard, and as the president of this school as well as Marcus’s uncle I just cannot turn blind to this.” President McMillan said and I guess where this conversation is going. “So you want me to tutor him don’t you President?” I asked him and he immediately nod at me with a smile on his face. “Yes! I want you to tutor him.” President McMillan said which made me frown a little because I didn’t know how will I do that since I have my part-time job after every class. “Ahm, I will try to President McMillan but I won’t promise that I will be able to tutor him because I have my part-time job every end of my class,” I said while smiling at him awkwardly. “Don’t worry Harmony, I know your situation so I already came up with a solution for that problem.” President McMillan said while smiling at me. “Ahm, what is it, President?” I asked him. “I will give you this whole week to file your resignation letter for your job and after doing that you can start tutoring my nephew full-time.” President McMillan said. “Ahm, but President I need those jobs because I need to pay for my rent and also for my everyday needs,” I said which made him smile again. “I know, and I am not asking you to tutor my nephew for free. You will tutor him full-time and I will pay you for that as well as his parents.” President McMillan said. “Please Harmony, you are the only one who can teach him well so please accept my offer. I promised you that I will pay you enough.” President McMillan continues while looking at my eyes. “Hmm, okay President I accept your offer,” I said which made him smile at me. “Thank you so much Harmony!” President McMillan said while smiling at me. I just shake my head at him first before answering. “You don’t need to thank me, President, I am doing this because you helped me a lot ever since I started studying here. You helped me to continue my study and that is more than enough to accept your offer President and I think accepting your offer is a way of me thanking you and your whole family for making me able to study in this prestigious university for free.” I said while smiling at him. “No Harmony, your scholarship is just the result of your hard work and you deserve that so you don’t need to enter that thing in this conversation because that is another matter.” President McMillan said so I just nod at him before speaking. “I’m sorry President,” I said while looking at my feet. “You don’t need to apologize Harmony, so I will tell my nephew that you will start tutoring him next week?” President McMillan told me so I just nod at him before speaking. “Yes President, please expect me to be there,” I said while smiling at him. After that, he just fill me with some information about Marcus. “So, what happened inside?” I almost jumped off on my feet when I heard Genevieve’s voice as I head outside the office. “You are still here?” I asked her while holding my chest because I am still shocked by her sudden appearance.  “Ah, of course! I cannot just leave you here without even knowing the reason why you are here.” She said “Don’t worry, it is nothing serious. Let’s go now and I will just tell you what happened inside while we are on our way.” I said as we started walking. While we are walking towards our room, I just tell her everything what I and President McMillan have talked about because if I won’t tell her about it I am sure that she will sulk over this matter and I didn’t want that to happen. “Wow! So you don’t need to overwork yourself anymore! Knowing Uncle Mike, and Marcus’s parents I know they will pay you enough to support your needs.” Genevieve said while smiling at me. “But I didn’t know how long will this tutoring going to last,” I said “Don’t worry about that, for now just think about the free time you are going to have. You are going to have the rest you need after those years of overworking yourself.” Genevieve said while smiling at me. “Yeah, you have a point there,” I said while smiling at her. After that, we just continue talking about this stuff until we arrived in our classroom.
