After the doctor left my office, the rest of my team left to go to their prospective homes on the property, leaving me, my dad, and my step-mom, Ashley, in my office.
"You wanted to have a meeting, didn't you?" I asked my dad.
"I did until I overheard everything he did to you. Ashley and I were hoping this was just a blip in y'all's relationship, but I'm starting to think we never really knew him. We all thought he was a nice guy, and would treat you right. I can't believe how wrong we truly were," my dad said.
"It's okay, daddy. No one really knew who he was. He didn't show his true colors until after we were living together. I had a feeling he was still seeing Jade, even after he said they had broken up. I'm just glad you had me put the infidelity clause in the prenup so he would be screwed out of getting anything in the divorce. All of my properties are in your or mom's names, so he can't claim half of anything. I covered all my bases to make sure that my assets were safe and that Jess grew up in a safe environment in case anything happened," I said, calmly.
"What's your next step then? He's refusing to sign the divorce papers, so I'm sure you have a backup plan," Ashley said.
"Of course, I have a backup plan. I knew it was a possibility that he'd never sign the divorce, so I took the liberty of already making his affair public and nowhere would hire him after learning the truth of his affair. He can attempt to counter what I did by saying that Jess isn't his, except that what he didn't realize is that the paternity test was done in the hospital and was notarized by both my lawyer and three other female nurses who took both his DNA and Jess's. He has no ground to stand on. He can try to run my name into the ground, except he has nothing on me. I've covered my tracks perfectly. I've never lied to him, nor have I kept anything from him. He knew from the start that everything was in your name," I said.
"So, you're telling me that until he signs the divorce papers, everything you 'own' is technically mine?" my dad asked.
"Almost everything. Two properties are in your name, simply because I bought them with you and Ashley in mind. This home, the apartment I bought, and all my cars are in my name alone. I bought them before him and I married. He has no claim to this house or even the car he drives. The only reason I haven't taken it back or reported it stolen is because I didn't feel like being too petty. I'm going to give him the option to either buy it off me for full market value, or he can sign the divorce papers and I will transfer the title to his name. A little blackmail really goes a long way," I said. "Now, it's late, I need to sleep, you and Ashley are welcome to stay in the guest room down the hall, or you can go home, but please leave my office." They both left shortly after and closed my door behind them. Thank god I installed a self-locking mechanism on the door two weeks before I went into labor with Jess. This way, no one can enter my office without my knowledge.
After they left, I quickly hit the security alarm, locking all doors and windows, barring my daughter's windows, and alerting Ace to the complete lockdown. Once everything has been locked, I grab my phone and leave my office, heading to bed myself.
