I don't know what made me not trust Ace, but something felt off. It was too late to look into his background, so I turned off my laptop, leaving my security cameras up on my computer, relocked my office door, and went to my room to get some sleep. I'll look into him more tomorrow after taking the doctor's file to the police to file a police report against my soon-to-be ex-husband and his son.
I crawled into my bed, pulled the covers around me, and went to sleep. After around four hours of sleep, I woke up to my silent alarm going off. I sat up and grabbed my phone to check the security system. It wasn't the outside alarm going off, but the one for my office, so I checked the camera for my office at my dad's company and could see Christopher attempting to get inside. I called my dad and the head of security for the office to let them know immediately.
"Hey, guys, you're on a group call cause the silent alarm for the office was tripped. Christopher is attempting to break into my office, but because I was smart enough to change the code, he can't get in. Jay, can you send someone to check it out?" I said when they both answered the phone.
"Of course, love," Jay said in his sleepy voice.
"I'll be headed to the office in a bit, princess. Do you want me to stop by your office and check the damage?" My dad asked.
"No, I'll stop by on my way to the police station. I just need to wake Jess up and get her dressed," I said, hanging up the call. I quickly got out of my bed, rushing to get dressed, before running out of the bedroom to get Jess up and dressed as well.
"Jess," I said as I opened her bedroom door, "it's time to get up. We have a few errands we need to do before we can leave for Florida."
"I'm awake, mama. I even got dressed by myself," she said. I opened the door to check on her, and she had, indeed, gotten dressed while I was on the phone.
"We need to stop at my office at Papa's company before we go to the police station, okay?" I asked her.
"Okay, mama," she said grabbing her shoes.
The last thing I wanted was for my poor girl to be caught in the middle of this mess, but I knew there was no other option. We got in the car and headed for the office. Once we parked, I got out and then walked around the side of the car to get her as well.
"Papa should be in his office, I'm going to text him and ask him if he'll wait in the lobby for you, ok?" I asked her gently.
"Okay. Is everything okay?" she asked.
"Of course, baby, everything will be just fine. Mommy just needs to meet with Mr. Jay about a small security breach. It's going to be okay, I promise," I told her. While we were walking, I texted my dad asking him to meet us in the lobby.
Dad: I'm waiting by the elevator to the garage. I'll take her to my office until you're done with Jay.
Me: Great, thanks.
Once we reached the level of the lobby, my dad joined us in the elevator, immediately distracting Jess to keep her calm. "Well, this is my stop, you're gonna go with Papa now Jess, I'll come get you when I'm done." I couldn't stand around waiting for her to answer, so I took my leave and walked down to my office just to see Jay standing waiting with Christopher in handcuffs.
"Did you have to cuff him?" I asked Jay.
"Miss, if I hadn't, he would've caused more damage to the door than he already had," Jay said.
"Where is our daughter, you b***h?" Christopher asked me.
"She's safe with my dad. And I thought you didn't think she was yours?" I said, getting pissed off.
"She's not mine! You got the damn technician to falsify the paternity test!!" he yelled at me.
"Careful, now, Mr. Henderson. You're walking on thin ice. First, you break into a heavily secured building, then attempt to break into your soon-to-be ex-wife's office, and now you're saying she lied on a legal document?" Jay said. "Do you even know how to keep your mouth shut?"
"I never lied about our daughter's paternity. She has your eyes, and her hair texture comes from your family. She's the perfect mix of both of our genes. Did you even bother to check your son's paternity before coming after me?" I said. "I'm sure with how often Jade sleeps around, how can you be sure Sam is even your blood?"
"Jade would never cheat on me. She's not a cheater," he said.
"Are you sure about that? The bag she had yesterday costs more than your allowance. Anyway, I don't have time for this. I have a police report to make against your son, and now you. Be thankful all Sam might get is a slap on the wrist, but I'm not too sure about that when he hurt Jacob Imbram's granddaughter. You know damn well the influence my dad holds in this city," I said, walking away from him. I made it to the elevator and then to my dad's office in record time.
"Come on, Jess. We still have to get to the police station before we head for the airport," I said, gently grabbing her hand, and leading her to the private elevator in my father's office. Once in the elevator, I told her that she needed to be completely honest with the officers and not leave anything out about the assault. I remind her how brave she is and that I'm so proud of her. I have no idea how long the abuse and bullying had been going on, but it was long enough that some bruises were yellow or barely there at all. She will have to be brave and tell them everything. When the elevator gets to the garage, I lead her to the car and get her buckled in before getting in myself and legally racing to the police station.
When we arrived at the police station, I parked the car and got out before getting Jess out of the back seat as well. "We're here, honey," I told her, helping her out of the car. "It's going to be okay. I'll be with you every step of the way if I can. Because you're the victim of the attack, they may ask me to leave you so they can talk to you without me interfering. I'll only be a few feet away, and you can ask for me at any point, okay sweetie?"
"Okay, mommy. I'll be brave and tell them everything," she said, grabbing my hand and walking with me into the station.
"I need to talk to a detective, please," I asked the receptionist. "It's important. My daughter has been getting assaulted by a boy in her class, and we'd like to press charges."
"Of course, ma'am. Have a seat, and I'll have Detective Ryan come talk to you," the lady said, directing us to the chairs across from her as she went to go find the detective, I guess. We sat waiting for maybe 20 minutes before the detective came up to us.
"The assault victims?" he asked, gently, "I'm sorry, the receptionist never gave us your names. Please forgive me for being so abrupt."
"Ms. Imbram, and this is my daughter, Jessica. It's my fault for not giving her our names. I didn't want to make a scene, especially with who we are. You must be Detective Ryan?" I asked.
"Yes, my name is Detective Ryan. Why don't we go somewhere more private? I'd hate for you to feel overwhelmed when the whole department realizes who you ladies are," he said, leading us to a private room.
