The Way You Look At Me (Troy's POV)

1751 Words
I came in the nick of time before she fully blew a fuse because of me. They were all waiting for me, especially her. She was the first one to approach me and again my heart pounded faster than ever before. So far, she's the only person that made me feel like this. All I could think of a reason for me being hella nervous around her now was because she was mad at me but it seemed like she wasn't that mad and was more focused on finishing this project we had so we started working on it. A few hours later, we finished making our project. Everyone went home while Maya and I went over by the waiting area. As we were walking towards the bench, she suddenly asked me something. "What's your name?" She asked as the look of embarrassment spread across her face then she looked down avoiding any eye contact with me. I smiled. It seemed pretty cute to me but she looked really embarrassed so I stopped smiling 'cause maybe she'd think I'm making fun of her. Although I am worried 'cause I don't want her to stress over my name. Wait- She doesn't know my name? All this time we've spent together... She didn't know my name? I guess the way I could lessen her worries is by answering that question and maybe getting closer to her too? I mean she seems cool and tough and for me, she seems really awesome so I decided to make that a start to be friends with her. But before I answer that, we need to get to the bench first 'cause I can see her feet shaking. She's probably tired. Once we reached the bench, I offered her a seat then we both sat down. It looks like her worries haven't disappeared yet. So I finally decided to talk and get straight to the point. "Is there something wrong? Was it because I was late? If so then I'm really sorry" Oh God, I said too much... But it looks like it lessened her worries for once. She finally spoke to me. "No, I asked what your name was. Remember?" She replied and it looks like she finally calmed down. So then I answered her question. "Oh, right. Well then I'm Troy James Carter, And what about you miss?" I still knew her name but I wanted to keep the conversation going and to lessen her embarrassment of not knowing my name, I then looked into her eyes and she seemed at ease this time 'cause she finally looked me in the eye and she stopped shaking. "My name is Maya Luna" She answered. I realized we never knew anything about each other, even something as simple as each other's name. The whole time we were still technically strangers but now maybe we aren't. I then stood up and held one hand out and then I asked for her hand and once she grabbed my hand I immediately bowed and kissed her hand. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHY?? It just felt like the right thing to do at the moment. Both of us looked confused and probably kind of red too. "W-why d-did you d-do that?" She answered while stammering. Oh God! I made things awkward again! Jeez, I've never made a friend in a long while so I didn't know what to do. So far all I know is to goof off and not be in a tight situation all the time but it seems like I'm gonna be doing it a lot with her here. I tried lessening the awkward tension between the two of us by trying to talk to her. "Before I say what that was for, would you mind explaining to me why you're turning red and stammering?" I said while finishing it off with a smug look just so she won't notice that I'm as nervous as her right now. I thought it could fix things, but I was wrong... "Hey! It's not what it looks like! In my defense, we hardly knew each other and you already kissed me by the hand!" She replied. Oh no... I made things worse... She avoided looking at me again... I'm really terrible at this... I guess I should try being serious for once... "I kissed your hand as a sign of respect, I mean that's what guys used to do before... Oh and I'm sorry, I was just joking about it earlier. I guess I goof around too much that's why no one wanted to be my friend even in the past few weeks, This is actually the first time I ever talked to somebody in our section or even in the whole school and somehow it looks like I've messed up again. I'm really not good at this so I'm really sorry..." I couldn't help but let everything out and show this side of me but at least I'm being honest this time and hopefully, that's enough for her to see that I'm serious this time. To my surprise, she didn't just understand me but she comforted me too! "You know what? You're the brightest and so far the nicest person I've met in this school and I was just kinda shy at first because I too am not good at making friends. You being goofy actually lighten things up and if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'll be here if you need me. And if you're ok with it, I could be your friend?" And then she ended with a smile. I didn't know what to say at the moment 'cause all I could feel was pure happiness. I stopped and tried thinking of what words to say. A few moments later, I replied to what she said. "Thanks, that helped a lot. I mean, so far that's the only problem I've been dealing with but nothing really serious. But hold on, you said you could be my friend? Is that true? Are you sure?" I asked while you could hear the excitement filled in my voice, this is the first friend I'm going to have here and she's awesome! and then she answered... "Of course, I could already see that you're a great person. Yeah, we just met but isn't that how making friends starts? Being complete strangers before becoming close friends? But if you don't want to be my friend, it'll be ok. I won't force you." She answered. I didn't think twice and answered her immediately. "Are you kidding? Of course, I actually feel happier because now I've got a friend and it's you! I wouldn't ask for it to be anyone else because for once, I actually feel at ease being with you and I could tell that that's a great sign." So far, everything went well between the two of us. - 4:30 pm - Time really does fly by quickly when you're having fun that I didn't notice the sun was almost going down yet there was still no sign of my uncle to pick me up. So I talked more with her because even just by doing that, she makes things more fun even with just her voice and words. I want to spend more time with her... I never want to leave her side! But I guess I can't do that because my uncle's here already to bring me home... The first time I never wanted to come home. "Hey your aunt messaged me, they're almost here" She told me even though I knew my uncle and aunt were already at the corner in front of us, I didn't want to leave her yet... Sooner or later she'll notice that they're already here so I took action and told her how I felt straight to the point! To get her on board with me I decided to pull out the big guns! My irresistible puppy eyes!! "Can't I just stay here and just talk with you? I still want to know more about you..." I told her while striking a pose with these irresistible puppy eyes! took her a little while until she finally answered. "It doesn't mean we leave now, we won't see each other next time. We'd still see each other at school anyways..." and I thought her assurance felt great, there was more! "So don't you worry my cute little puppy! We'll still see each other soon" She added. I just nodded because it sounds so cute the way she said that as if I was her pet puppy. Not long after she saw our car, guess this is over. As I got in, my smile turned into a frown because she'd no longer be with me this time so there I thought of countless ways to hang out with her but I think those would fail too because my aunt won't allow it unless it's important... My aunt then talked to her and I tried listening carefully to what they were saying and it looked like the conversation was almost over so I looked around to make an excuse for her to come with us. I realized it was getting dark and she's a lady, It won't be safe for her to go back home alone so I decided to tell them so she'd be safe and we'd have more time with each other. "Hey, for being a good friend you can ride with us and we could send you to your house. It is a lot safer this way and it's getting dark too" I told both of them hoping it would be enough to make her spend more time wit- I mean... So that she'd get home safe. It looks like it wasn't enough to convince her so I continued talking. "And in this way, we'll have more time to talk too! So are you in?" Oh no... I said too much but it looks like she's still thinking about it. "I hope she comes with us, I hope she comes with us, I hope she comes with us, I hope she comes wit-" I repeated over and over again in my head hoping and praying that she'd come. Then out of nowhere... "Sure!" she answered. I'm so relieved! but now that she actually agreed I really don't know what to do or even what to say! HELPPPPP!!!!!!!! "These feelings of mine I want you to know, I can't help but make it overflow"
