His little Mate

Running through the forest, paws hitting the dirt, running as fast as my legs could carry me. Trying to throw off the three big wolves chasing me down. I knew that I would be a goner if they caught up to me, which made me want to run even faster. I knew this was a stupid idea, I knew when my alarm went off this morning that I should have just stayed in bed. I can’t die on the day I was given birth to. Yes, today is my birthday, my eighteenth birthday to be exact. The day I would start my extensive training of becoming an Alpha of the White Rock Clan. I didn’t realize this was what my father had in mind when he dropped me off on a dirt road, and told me ‘May you follow the Goddess to the right path, be one with your wolf, and it will carry you home to us’ what kind of nonsense was this man spewing at me. The morning had started out great, my mom cooked me a great big breakfast, and told me ‘you won’t be eating with us for awhile, eat up. A word to the wise darling, when you allow your wolf to come forward, don’t fight it. To become the best Alpha, you must learn to be one. ‘ If you haven’t already learned our pack does things differently when becoming and Alpha, a lot of the clan just ship their future Alphas to Alpha school. Our pack thinks you learn nothing there. While they cover everything you need to know, do you ever really learn it? Do you ever get put into a situation where you need to use your Alpha powers. As I ate my breakfast my brother came down, he was younger then me by a year, I didn’t want this position. I just wanted to find my mate and live a happy, healthy life with zero worries of pack businesses or the meetings. Oh god the meetings, they were so long, and I would get disgruntled looks, even looks of disgust thrown my way when I would attend with my father. ‘That’s the Alpha next in line’ , ‘Oh god it can’t be’ ‘he’s a crazy old man thinking that will be accepted as an Alpha’ . I heard it all, but I’m determined, which is why I never stood down, or handed the position to my brother. I will succeed, I will conquer their words of shame. When I’m done they’ll remember my name, and know that I was the best Alpha ever. Josh, my brother, stared at me with wide eyes, his eyes glazed over. I knew he was mind linking someone. His voice appeared in my head. ‘Sis, it’s not to late. I can still take this position if you don’t want to go on with it. I know what you’re supposed to do out there in those woods. This training could take months, even years in wolf form. I can do it. Don’t be a stubborn fool.’ I stared at him as his eyes refocused on me, I knew this was coming. The protector of me coming to the front lines to save his sister from miserable failure to the family. I knew I could do this, even if it did take me years to conquer, I will come back powerful, more wiser, and most importantly, I will come back as Alpha. I looked at my brother and smiled, no one ever knew if I was mindlinking, my eyes never glazed over, and my senses always stayed on point. I could mindlink and take out an enemy if needed. ‘it’s okay Josh, really. I need to do this. Don’t be like them and think I need the help, you take care of mom, and make sure everything is held down here. When I return, I want everything still in place' He looked at me and nodded. I knew he understood. I needed to this on my own, I could feel my wolf Rylee pacing in my head. She was just as eager as I was. Was I really eager? Excited? Maybe I was terrified as I didn’t know what would be waiting for me just outside the little town. As we finished breakfast, my mom hugged me tight. ‘Raylee, come home safe to us.’ She had said to me. I leap over a log laying in my way, as I focus on staying alive in this moment. I will make it home, and I will not bow or be taken to be someone’s snack. As I continue to run and weave around the trees, I take open my other senses, off to the west I smell a water source. I hear the growling of the wolves on my heels, I hear the bats squeaking in the night, the owl making her music of the night. I opt to go west, if there’s a water source. I could throw them off my trail using the water. I’m a very good swimmer, and so is my wolf. She is also in agreement to go west to the water source. As we make a sudden left to head west, I hear a howl in the night. Nothing like I heard before these guys started chasing me, no this was a scornful howl. I can smell the water now, it’s a moving stream. I can hear the water breaking on the rocks, and I can hear a waterfall a little further down. ‘Do we jump Rylee? Do you think it’s safe?’ ‘If we want to make it to meet our mate, I think you should stop doubting me’ my wolf sounded harsher than normal. As we broke through the last of the trees into the tiny clearing before the running stream, I falter for a millisecond. ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING RUN!’ Rylee yelled in my head. I jumped into the opening and bolted, I didn’t wait till I was really close. I got ready, and sprang into the stream, I took a deep breath and under the water I went in wolf form. ‘Good, we can paddle down to the water fall, this water isn’t running as fast as it could be, we will be safe to climb down the waterfall. Let us put more distance between us and those rogues before we come up with another plan’ Rylee said to me. I agreed, we need to put distance between us and them. As we surfaced for air, we stuck our nose out, and started to sniff. Wolves have a very good sense of smell, this is how we know if danger is upon us. As we sniffed the air, I didn’t catch any hits of rogue smell, they smelled like death. I didn’t smell anything other then the trees surrounding us. We deemed it was safe to swim over to the rocks and make our descend down the water fall, I was exhausted after that, and I also needed food. ‘I agree, we need to hunt we haven’t had anything since breakfast when mom cooked for us.’ My wolf said to me ‘I know, let us get off this and go hunt for something to eat’ I replied and maybe even a cave so we can try to sleep as well I said to myself. We start the tedious work of coming down off this water fall, as we approach the bottom I let my wolf instincts take over completely, this was the firs phase of becoming a good Alpha. I needed to trust my wolf to make the appropriate decisions without my help for the first part of this. In order to become the best Alpha, my wolf and I needed to work as one. To become one another, as I handed over the reins to my wolf she looked at me with a sparkle in her eye ‘Thank you, and Raylee?’ ‘Yea Rylee? ‘ ‘We will make it home safe, I won’t let anything happen to you. To us.’ My wolf said to me, and I slipped to the back of my mind, to be in a peaceful sleep. Training with our wolves are like having a clone that allows you to learn things while you sleep, what my wolf will do is gain her skills her stamina, her powers, her everything will be learned by me while I slumber. When I wake up from this slumber, I will know everything she has done, did, and will do in the near future. This is what my old man was saying when he told me to let the instincts take over. I’m allowing my wolf, my friend, my other half keep me safe while I sleep. If she comes into danger she can’t control she will wake me up. I don’t think this will happen though, so as I drift further into this sleep, all I think about is going home. I think of how long this journey will be, but I also think about how much more stronger I will be. As I settle further, I think to my wolf. ‘let this long journey begin' •Unknown• I watch her, I watch that beautiful she-wolf wander around the forest, she’s got the mark of the White Rock marking on her. A gold patch on the chest of her white fur, she must be training to become an Alpha. Why else would this little wolf be out here? Can’t say she went rogue, she doesn’t have the smell of one. I saw them chasing her through the forest, hot on her trails. I didn’t want to intervene as I know the ways of her clan. She is training, and must not get distracted by anything. I did release a howl though, I’ve been hunting those rogues for months now, they keep evading me. I will catch them, and I will kill them for taking away what was mine. The love of my life, the Luna of my pack. I know the Goddess works in mystery ways, I have also heard of second chance mates. When I came out to this forest, hot on the rogues tails. The scent hit me, like a wrecking ball being thrown into a wall. It made me stop in my tracks. All I spelt was the smell of lilies blossoming in the middle of summer. It was the most amazing scent ever. I knew was this meant. The Moon Goddess was giving me another chance, giving me another one to love. I couldn’t take her just yet, I needed revenge for my mate. The mate the Rogue king took from me. I wouldn’t let her catch my scent, wouldn’t give her a chance to know I was her mate. I needed time. I crossed the river, and as much as my wolf protested we laid down in the mud to cover the remaining scent mine. I kept a close eye on my little mate, I wanted to see what she would do. As I saw her wolf get into a pounce stance, I knew my little mate was allowing her wolf full access. She will be a great leader one day, and when she comes out of her alive, as I know she will. I will make her my Luna.
