CHAPTER ONE

3. Invites
4. Cake
5. Caterers
...Who knew day dreaming a wedding could be this stressful? There’s a lot of preparations and planning to be done. I’d have to think of the best… the RING! I let out a loud laugh, how could I possibly forget the most important piece in this puzzle? Jordan obviously needs a beautiful diamond ring to give me the grandest, most romantic proposal I’ve always dreamed about since I met him.
I and Jordan met when we were both 14 years old. My mother and I had just moved into a new city for a fresh start after my father died in a car crash.
Leaving the memories of dad behind felt like the biggest form of betrayal to him, but hearing mom cry in the bathroom every night when she thought I was asleep since his death brought a different kind of pain, my heart broke afresh every night, but I couldn’t show it, I had to be her strength and pretend I was fine. So, when she told me about the ‘big move’ I agreed without hesitation and pretended to be excited.
New city, No friends, New school – Recipe for disaster. First day of school started out horrible like all first days of school around the world. It was like there was an unwritten rule made by some sadist old man or something that all first day of school must be awful. Everyone started at me like this was the first time they saw a strange face.
“Hey Weirdo!” Someone called loudly while walking towards me, gathering the stares of a few kids around in the process, I just rolled my eyes, ignored him and pretended not to notice the attention he was desperately trying to draw to himself.
“I’m talking to you Melon”
“My name is Melanie” I muttered under my breath
“Did you say something?” He asked folding his arms.
“I said my name is Melanie”. I said folding my arms too and looking him squarely in the eyes.
“I only came to tell you your old town called, they said they wanted their clown back” he said smiling, clearly satisfied with himself.
I stood still, stared at him silently for a full three seconds before bursting into uncontrollable laughter which brought tears to my eyes and left Matt and everyone who was watching the exchange a bit confused. “Dude! If you’re going to go around bullying and making fun of people, at least add some skill to it. That is honestly the worst and dumbest roast line I have heard all my life, and trust me I’ve heard a lot. Try again when you’ve mastered the skill”, I said as I walked off smiling, leaving him standing there speechless with everyone laughing at him.
The rest of the day went on surprisingly better than expected, the weird stares reduced and school was actually normal.
“Hi, Melon”, I heard a voice which wasn’t Matt’s call behind me. I turned to shout “My name is Melanie for the love of God!"
