Chapter 17

Evelyn's pov

“All the best Eve,” Zara wished me luck when I was leaving for my work.

“Thanks I will make something good today for dinner.” I told her before leaving for the Lycan king's home.

A guard was waiting for me to take me there as it's my first day working. Once I get familiar with the roads I will tell him to not bother about me. Everyday someone will come just to pick and drop me is not settling well with me.

“Good morning sir.” I told him and he acknowledged it with a response of his own.

We took the local bus and reached our destination in half an hour.

I am following the road carefully so I can memorize it. I need to go and come all alone after some days.

“When will we reach sir?” I asked the man who is with me.

I don't even know what his name is. Should I ask him? It's so weird that we are traveling together but don't know anything about each other.

“We will reach in a few minutes more.” He replied curtly.

“My name is Evelyn Smith. What's your name?” I asked him.

“I'm Riker, I work as a bodyguard for Alpha. It's nice to meet you.” He said and for them first time he smiled a bit

“Why did you come here to take me? I could have reached the address myself.” I told him what I genuinely wanted to knew.

“It was Alpha's order, because not everyone is allowed to enter the house. That's why whoever wants to enter they have to pass the security test first and you're not yet qualified to enter the premises.” He said strictly and I hummed.

Oh so the security is the issue that's why he is escorting me. Hmmm!

“So once I pass the security test can I come alone?” I asked him and he shook his head in no.

“Why?” I asked not understanding the reason.

“Because you're young and Alpha wants you to be provided with security that's it.” Riker replied with a shrug.

He doesn't seem to be interested in talking to me much.

We entered a big villa filled with small green plants on both sides of the path. The villa is magnificent but it doesn't look like a Lycan king's house. More than the king, it looks like a modern man's house like those humans.

“Do you want to say something?” Riker asked me as if reading my thoughts.

With that I remember I don't know if he is a vampire or Lycan. What if he is a vampire and can read my thoughts?

“Which creature are you?” I asked him and saw a little smirk on his face.

“Vampire.” He said and I gulped hard.

“Don't be so afraid Ms. Evelyn I won't harm you. You're a werewolf yet you don't have a wolf. May I know why?” he asked and I looked down.

“It's fine if it's personal.” He said and I nodded.

“This is where the security check begins.” He said and guided me through a laser wall.

It was glowing green and I passed it. Riker came behind me and the same happened.

“Open your eyes wide so the system can scan your retina.” He said and I did.

After fulfilling all the protocols I finally entered the villa. It was more beautiful than I imagined it would be. My previous pack house was big but not beautiful like this one.

The hall room screams luxury and elegance. The person who has decorated it has a great taste in things.

“Maria, the new cook is here. I'm going out, now you can handle her.” Riker said and left me alone here.

An old woman came out of the kitchen. She looks very kind and sweet to me but again looks can be deceiving.

“Hello, I'm Evelyn.” I introduced myself.

“Yes and I'm Maria, I'm the housekeeper here. Do your work silently, finish it on time and leave. The rules are very simple. No sneaking around here and there. Alpha doesn't like it at all.” she said and I nodded silently.

She showed me the kitchen and the cabinets were filled with whatever I needed to cook.

I made spinach corn cheese rolls and some leafy veggies soup to pair with mushroom dumplings. I know how to prepare multiple things. I have been cooking since I was 14.

Once I was done I made Maria taste everything to ensure everything is perfect or not. Once she approved the food was sent for him in his office.

In the evening I have to make dinner and leave before he comes back as he doesn't like anyone's presence around him when he is back.

Maria and I did our lunch together and Zara called to check on me as well. I got to know that Maria is a Lycan and has been working for the royal family for a long time. Now she is here to serve the Alpha king.

Once I was done with my work and was about to leave I saw a thing which forced me to stop abruptly.
