ALPHA’S POV
“I swear this crap never ends!” I threw my head back in frustration looking at the piles of paperwork still littering my desk. “Goddess, I can’t wait until I can retire.” I couldn't help but let out an exhausted huff.
Suddenly a loud thud echoed from outside of my office bringing me out of the headache induced trance I found myself in.
“Alpha!” the voice boomed through the hall. My office doors practically flying off the hinges when my frantically breathing beta came barging in.
“So we don’t know how to knock anymore?” I asked, sounding completely unimpressed and displeased
“I’m sorry alpha, we have a problem at Zach’s party!”
“What is that wretched boy up to now!”
“It’s actually about another pack member.” Connor trailed off as if it could help him avoid the conversation. I couldn’t say my interests hadn’t peeked at his statement. What wolf was foolish enough to disrespect my authority?
“I Heard commotion from outside so I went to check it out, and well..”
"Spit it out already Connor!"
"When I stepped inside I seen what looked to be, Ms. Ricci quarreling with Ms. Pierce...but the power emitting from Chaos was like nothing I've ever experienced."
The moment that the words 'Ms. Ricci' rolled off of my betas tongue, I knew the gravity of the situation was dire.
“Where are they!” I bellowed out
“Still in the ballroom Alpha, but I should inform you that I’m not entirely sure about the details of the situation."
CONNOR'S POV
The alpha was practically gone before I could finish my sentence. I don’t know much of anything about that pup but the aura that she gave off when she growled was paralyzing. She's the head warrior but a low level wolf nonetheless, so why did her growl make me want to cower? I don’t know what the hell is going on, but I know that I smell nothing but trouble.
LANE’S POV
Once I entered the ballroom I made my way over to a group of warriors playing a game of beer pong. I desperately needed to distract my mind from the thoughts that continued to swim in it. “So who’s ready to get their ass kicked?” I asked the group of wolves as they were setting up cups for a new game.
“You may be the second ranked warrior, but challenging us to beer pong is a battle you won’t win Carter.” The words came out in a playful manner causing me to chuckle.
“Ulises Delacroix right?” A lively grin spread across my face as my nerves disappeared around the benevolent wolves having a good time. After a few brisk handshakes and hugs, the group of warriors and I embarked on our beer pong games.
2 games and countless drinks later and my mind has finally drifted from Chaos...mostly.
I Just wish she wasn’t always so mysterious and distant. She claims that I'm her best friend yet I feel as though she can’t trust me, even when I’ve given her no reasons to doubt me.
“Hey isn’t that Chaos!” I was pulled from my thoughts when Ulises spoke and pointed to the far end of the ballroom and I was instantly filled with anger. The chattering of all the nearby wolves slowly died down as everyone was tuned into the scene unfolding between Chaos and Zach.
“You may not have been done talking to me Zachary, but I cannot say the same.” Her words came out so venomous and without a single ounce of guilt. Her usual calm aura was replaced by one that I couldn’t quite make out. My wolf could not decide whether to be proud or fearful and it seems like I wasn’t the only one faced with this dilemma. With one last commanding growl Zach rushed out of the ballroom and away from staring eyes.
“Thats one feisty wolf huh mate?” Ulises once again grabbed my attention pulling me of out my daze,
“Ha, I guess you could say that.” I quickly hid the proud expression I wore on my face, not wanting to give him the wrong idea.
“You guys are friends aren’t you?” Ulises questioned, his look full of curiosity.
“No. What makes you think that?”
“Well it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that she’s not very sociable, but the few rare times I’ve seen her communicate with anyone it’s always been you. I’m pretty sure I’ve even seen her smile at you once”
I was taken aback by his comment knowing that if Chaos heard it she would have surely lost her every f**k that she had to give. I'll be the first to admit Chaos is damn frightening when she's angry.
“Oh we just work together, as you said she’s not very sociable. But we do have to speak on occasion , kind of part of the job.” I replied confidently hoping that he wouldn’t ask anymore questions that I wouldn’t be able to answer.
“Yeah I guess that makes sense.” he answered with a shrug. Ulises gave me one more smile before turning around to rejoin the game of beer pong.
“You need to learn your place, orphan! You don;t belong in this pack! You know it, I know it , hell even your parents knew it. Why do you think they were so conveniently slaughtered. You and your brother are both abominations, a disgrace to the Black Shadow pack!”
“What did you just say!”
“You heard me chaotic orphan!” the wolf I recognized as Emily Pierce began to laugh obviously proud of herself along with select others of the pack.
“Don’t you dare tell lies about my family!”
All of a sudden the room began to tremor almost like a frightened pup. I could feel my wolf Coda whimpering and cowering in my mind causing me to drop my head in submission.
The sensation was over as quickly as it had come. I glanced around me noticing that I wasn’t the only wolf who submitted , and definitely not the only confused one either.
The air seemed to be charged with power making it almost impossible to breathe comfortably. I look to my right to see Ulises darting his eyes around the room in search of an explanation to what the hell was just happened.
“Can you sense where that power is coming from?” he whispered as to make sure I was the only one to hear
I closed my eyes and concentrated on the power I felt surrounding me, there was so much of it that it coated every square inch of the room. Yet I could not pinpoint the source, it was as if the power was everywhere but nowhere all at the same time.
“No, I can’t.” I replied
“Yeah me either, and I don’t see the alpha anywhere so I can’t possibly be him” Ulises responded in a calm but fearful manner.
“Even if he was here, I’ve ever felt such intense power coming from him. There’s no way that it could be our alpha.” We both stay standing in complete silence forgetting about the drama taking place just across the room.
“Well aren’t you gonna say anything orphan!” Emily spat the words in Chaos’s direction as she stood still with her head hanging low. Is she crying? Is she hurt? I don’t know what's going on but I need to get Chaos out of here now! I began to walk through the crowd and make my way to her. Just as I was almost done wading through the pool of people I was stopped dead in my tracks when I was met with Chaos’s glowing blue orbs. She seemed domineering and even more confident than usual. The air around her was so thick you could see it moving slowly in a wavy motion resembling a calm ocean.
“She may not have anything left to say but I do.” The menacing voice that escaped her beautiful mouth was not one that I was accustomed to hearing. It caused every cell in my body to freeze and Coda to howl out in distress. Emily once bold, now stood in place crippled by her own wolfs
angst. “Now it’s my turn to play.”
SYLA’S POV
“Geez lighten up everyone, I don’t bite.” I wore a smile that told you my words probably weren’t the most honest ones out there
I let out a low boredom filled sigh “Fine.” with one speedy snap of my fingers the weight of my powers dissipated from the room. “Is that better?” I implored mockingly.
“W-what are you?” Emily stammered over her words, barely able to look me in the eye.”
“What a dumb pup your must be. I am a wolf just like yourself of course.” I answered condescendingly as I slid onto the bar counter and crossed my legs together.
“No wolf has that kind of power.” she yelled back.
“Well you’re obviously wrong about that don’t ya think?” I couldn’t help but laugh.
“It doesn’t matter what little fancy show you’re trying to put on. You're just a low level wolf that needs to know her place!” she growled out attempting to sound intimidating.
“Then why don’t you show me, little one” I smirked.
In a matter of 5 seconds Emily shifted into a coco brown colored wolf with the signature black eyes for our pack. As soon as she was in her wolf form she lunged at me in an effort to knock me off of the bar, but just as she jumped towards me I swiftly moved onto my back launching Emily into the air with my legs with minimal force. Emily came crashing down hitting the floor like a sack of potatoes. “Ouch, that one had to hurt.” I explode into a fit of laughter not being able to contain myself.
Emily slowly stood up baring all of her teeth clearly past the point of anger now.
“I will have your head on a stick, orphan!” she hissed.
“I see you’re not a good auditory learner so kinesthetic it is.” I howled out in excitement.
Emily rushed towards me with all her wolf strength but she would soon find out, that would never be enough. I allowed her to come within arms reach of me before raising my right hand causing her to freeze in place.
“What did you do to me! Why can’t I move my body!”
“It’s this nifty little skill that I call ‘manipulation’ , would you like to see more?” A sinister smile appeared on my face as I steadily balled my once open hand into a fist. “The tighter I clench my fingers closed, the more restricted your windpipe becomes, see?”
I stared blankly at the pathetic wolf now lying in front of me frantically thrashing around in search of air.
“Oh I know lets play a game, who ever can guess how long she can stay conscious wins” I asked in a surprisingly giddy tone.
*Syla what the hell is going on! You’re going to hurt her!* I could hear Chaos going ballistic in our head
*Calm down I’m just teaching her a lesson*
*Seriously Syl, give me back control now!*
*no can do honey bunch. Now I know you must have a lot of questions and what not but that will have to wait for a later time. I'm going to just shut you out now, mkay? Great byeee*
*Syla wa-*
I know Chaos is going to be pissed later but this is the way it has to be. Soon she’ll see that everything happened exactly as it should have.
“ENOUGH!” the thunderous voice of the alpha rang through the ballroom causing all of the pack members to submit, but of course not I.
“Well hello Alpha King, how kind of you to join us.” i retort smugly
“Let the girl go Chaos, and you will not be harmed.” He stated flatly and without emotion.
“Wow you’re really good at the whole negotiation thing aren’t you? I quipped
“I SAID ENOUGH , RELEASE HER NOW CHAOS!”
I glanced around to see every wolf around me quivering into submission, and yet here I stand unaffected as usual.
“We can do this all night old man.”
“No, I intend to end this now.”
Before I could react I felt a sharp pain in the side of my neck and quickly rubbed the irritated spot to find a miniature dart. I instantly felt weakened and my power began to cease upon the effects of the drug forced into my body.
“Got you a sharp shooter with wolfs-bane huh? Guess you're a pretty quick thinker to be so old gramps.” I let out one last shaky snicker before I felt all of my power slip from me as well as my consciousness.
ALPHA KING'S POV
* Dr. Whitmore, I need a stretcher in the ballroom immediately*
*Right away alpha*
Soon enough Emily was being carried back to the pack hospital and the room was almost cleared of any other inhabitants
"Connor, You and Ulises escort Chaos to one of the cells in the dungeon. Make sure she is chained and given a dose of wolfs-bane on the hour every two hours until I say otherwise. Oh yes and locate that pesky boy of mine."
"Yes alpha. Ulises we have a job to do!"
Connor called out to the young boy standing at the opposite side of the room.
"Yeah yeah, I'm coming dad." he uttered absentmindedly.
Before I could blink Chaos was being carried out of the room and I was left free to retreat back to my office where I could reflect on the situation at hand.
A half hour had passed when I received a mind link from my beta.
*Alpha, I found Zachary and will be delivering him to you personally.*
*Very well, when Zachary arrives you may retire for the night*
"Thank you alpha*
Moments later my son came trekking into my office filling the air with his obvious vexation.
"Where have you been son?"
"Out, I had to let off some steam. That stuck up b***h Chaos embarrassed me in front of the pack!" He snapped. He was undeniably pissed off, and that's exactly what I needed. Bonus for me? The fact that none other than Chaos herself has hurt his pride and ego. This may just work perfectly.
"Is that so?"
"I want her exiled from this pack, better yet just kill her!" he hissed
"If you are to become alpha, you must learn to not act in such haste Zachary."
"But that bi-"
"Do you remember the story your mother used to tell you as a child? Benedetto Dalla Luna?"
"Very little. The legend of the divine wolf right? Zach questioned in complete bewilderment.
"Yes that one precisely!"
"Okay it's some stupid old child's tale? so what." His attitude quickly shifting back to sour as he spoke.
I lean back into my large leather chair , intertwining both of my hands together as they relax on my chest.
"There was said to be a wolf blessed by the moon goddess. One that would not just come to save the world as we know it some day, but to also restore it. Once this chosen wolf is conceived , the moon goddess would delicately pluck a part of it's soul from the growing pup, nurturing and protecting it herself. Once said wolf was ready to be born she would again seek out the pup and return the lost part of it's soul back to where it belongs, leaving it blessed and directly connected to the divine powers of the moon goddess."
"Well if you're done spewing poorly executed versions of children bedtime stories to me, I'm gonna hit the sheets." Zach exclaimed in a disinterested tone before standing to excuse himself.
"Sit back down!" I bit, getting fed up with his attitude and blatant disregard. Zach rolled his eyes exaggeratedly before plopping back down in the chair across from me.
"Now as I was saying, what if I told you that it may be less of a child's tale and more of a prophecy."
"Okay? I should give a f**k, why?" he scoffed out his words. I growl out in annoyance making Zach submit under my command.
"Now I figure this is a way for both us to get what we ultimately want. I'm positive that I know who the divine wolf is, not only do I know who they are but I know exactly where they are too. If we play our cards right son, we could be the most deadly pack in the world with you as the most powerful alpha. All we have to do is extract their powers." An alarming smile soon shone over my sons previous hard expression making me a bit proud.
"Well who is it then!" Zach blurted out losing all patience.
"Chaos Bella Ricci."
