Chapter 6

Abby was busy sorting out files on her computer when suddenly something fell on top of her desk. It was three folders. She looked up to see who had carelessly placed three folders on her table. She raised an eyebrow upon seeing Bambi standing beside her with hands on her hips, acting like their manager. "What's that?" Abby didn't bother to open the contents of the folder. She pointed at it with her lips. "Make a design to present for the weekly meeting," Bambi instructed Abby like a manager. Abby took the three folders and opened them one by one. She felt irritated upon seeing that they belonged to Bambi and her two accomplices, Rocha and Martina. "What do you mean, Bambi? I'm the one who will create the design for the three of you?" she asked the woman, trying to suppress her annoyance. Previously, Bambi didn't treat her this way. Although it was obvious that Bambi didn't like her, she never made her do unnecessary tasks, especially if it was her own work. Most of the time, Bambi would just roll her eyes or raise her eyebrows whenever she saw her. But after the welcome party for their new CEO, Bambi started power-tripping her just because she was a newcomer and still a junior designer in the company, while the woman was already a senior designer. "Isn't it obvious?" Bambi widened her eyes at Abby. "Do what I ordered you to do if you want to keep your job for a long time. My uncle is one of the executives in the company. So you know what I can do to you," Bambi added with a threatening tone. Abby closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She didn't want to argue with Bambi right now because she wasn't in the mood. So instead of opposing what was being ordered of her, she just placed the three folders on the side of her desk and went back to what she was doing without any comment. When Bambi saw what Abby did, she walked back to her desk with a grin. Her two friends immediately approached her. "I thought Abby would resist what you wanted her to do. Turns out she's afraid of you," Martina commented, a wide smile plastered on her lips. "Of course, Bambi has a backer while Abby doesn't," Rocha replied proudly to Martina. "She thought she could succeed in seducing Mr. La Corja to become her backer. Poor Abby. She has too much confidence in herself," Rocha added with an insult. The three women laughed at what the latter said. They didn't care even if their colleagues heard what they were talking about. Abby chose to remain silent because she knew that what Rocha said wasn't true. If those three women knew about her connection to Finn, they might choke on with envy. But she had no intention of flaunting her relationship with Finn because she was sure it would put her in a difficult position. And she doesn't want to have anything to do with Finn La Corja. The end of the workday arrived, but Abby was not yet finished with her tasks. Bambi wasn't satisfied with just instructing her to create a design; she also gave her another task that needed to be completed that day. So while the company's employees were leaving, she was still facing her computer, completely absorbed in her work. "Office hours are over, Abby. Aren't you going home?" asked Abby's colleague Rollen, who, like her, was also new to the company. "I'll finish what Bambi asked me to do first. She'll definitely scold me tomorrow if I don't finish it today," she replied to Rollen after briefly glancing at him. Rollen pulled up a chair and sat next to Abby. He took the three folders she had set aside on the table. "What's this? Is Bambi even asking you to do their plan design?" "As if I'd really do what she ordered me to," Abby replied with a smirk. She didn't object earlier when Bambi told her to make their plan design, but she also didn't agree. Rollen laughed at Abby's answer. "I thought you were really afraid of Bambi, that's why you follow her orders. It's obvious she's just on a power trip because she has a strong backer." "I just don't want trouble. And besides, she's my senior, so she has the right to order me around. But that doesn't mean I'll follow everything she tells me to do." "I like that bravery of yours," Rollen praised Abby with a smile, then took a pencil and started drawing on the three folders. "I'm sure they'll like the plan design I'm going to make." Abby slightly laughed and shook her head at what Rollen was planning to do. The three women would surely get mad at her, but she didn’t stop him from doing whatever he wanted. Abby wanted to convey to the three women that she wouldn’t let herself be easily bullied by them, even though she was a newcomer, and even if Bambi had a strong backer. She believed that Mr. La Corja was a responsible CEO and wouldn’t allow nepotism within his company to be used for bullying his other employees. "I'm done. You? Are you also finished with what you're doing there?" Abby asked Rollen with a smile while arranging her things on top of her table. "I'm also done." Rollen had a wide grin, so Abby was sure that the designs he drew on the folder of the three women were nonsense. "Let's go." "Since you helped me with Bambi's designs, I'll treat you to dinner tonight." "Wow, I like it! I'm already hungry. So let's go!" Abby and Rollen left the building together while laughing. They could already imagine what the faces of the three women would look like when their manager saw the designs they would present tomorrow for the weekly meeting. Abby took Rollen to a cheap eatery. She couldn't afford to treat someone at an expensive restaurant yet. "Is it okay if I bring you here to eat? My budget is tight right now," Abby said to Rollen shyly. It was her first time treating her co-worker, and it was at a cheap eatery. "Of course, I'm okay with it. I'm not a rich kid, so I'm not picky," Rollen replied with a smile. They stood up and approached the lined-up large pots containing dishes. Abby let Rollen choose which dish he wanted. After they lined up, they returned to their table. In just a few moments, the waitress served their orders. Abby felt hungry when she saw the pork sisig she had ordered. She immediately scooped some pork sisig and placed it on top of her rice before taking a bite. "Their pork sisig is so delicious. Try it," Abby offered to Rollen while chewing. Suddenly, a man sat in the vacant chair at their table. Abby suddenly spat out the rice in her mouth upon seeing that the man who sat in the vacant chair at their table was none other than Finn La Corja. And his eyebrows were almost in a single line as he stared at her.
