He left her that morning to run errands and leave her alone for a little while. She sat and watched TV all day and never left the suite. When he came back in the evening, she was still sitting in the same place, the television blaring. She was asleep, sitting with her legs curled up against her, leaning on the arm of the couch hugging a pillow. He almost smiled but he did not, he just put the bags of take out on the counter where her uneaten breakfast still sat. Taking the remote from her hand gently he covered her with a blanket and sat down on the couch next to her, putting his feet on the table in front of him he flipped channels until he found something interesting to watch. Just like Addison, he didn't get much time to watch television while ruling over a layer of hell.
"What is it, Lucian...?” He looked over; not realizing she had woke up.
"I don't know. I guess we'll find out, won't we?"
…..
When they got back to the Pit, he left her alone, leaving her to sleep in her private room as long as she wanted. He had done this to her, and now he had to tell Lucifer and find out what they would do, kill it, or let it live. Walking through several doors at the end of the hall, he found himself in Lucifer’s domain, and walked past the lower demons that served him. He strode confidently down the hallway; hands casually in his suit pant pockets and went to his office. He didn’t knock, Lucian didn’t have to. He certainly was not Lucifer’s equal, but he was not about to lower himself to servant status. Walking in he found Lucifer at his desk, face buried in paperwork, going over newly signed contracts. Some simple human bargains, others business arrangements; “Yes, what do you want?” He didn’t look up.
“There’s a problem.”
“A problem, should I be concerned?” eyes peered up at Lucian and then back down at the thick packet he was sifting through.
“Yes, you should be concerned. It changes everything.” Lucian had not sat down; he stood in front of the desk and looked down at his master, waiting for the punishment.
“What have you done, Lucian?” He sat back in his chair, put his pen down and peered at his friend. There was silence as Lucian hesitated. “Spit it out, Lucian. I’ll find out eventually. What have you done?”
“She’s pregnant.” Lucifer took a deep breath at this news but did not move from his place behind the desk.
“Well, now, that does change everything, now doesn’t it? Better hope it is boy, Lucian, don’t want to end up with another Marguerite.” He chuckled at his joke and picked his pen up again. “I’m done with you, you can go. I will deal with this later.” Lucian walked from Lucifer’s office, shocked that he still had his life. What he had done was a huge disobedience. This was not supposed to be his child; it was supposed to be Lucifer’s. Addison was supposed to carry the child to destroy the human race and now she simply carried a bastard abomination that was not worth anything to anyone and ruined Lucifer’s chance at an heir. He would have to fix that. Whether he decided to just take it, or kill it would be something he’d have to think about.
Lucian went back to his own Pit, went to her room and sat down on the bed next to her. Running his hand over her back he reached to push her hair from her face. Her eyes opened and she looked over her shoulder at him. “What is he going to do?”
“I don’t know. He seemed calm about it. That’s never good.”
“Is he going to kill me?”
“I doubt it. But he will do something, I just don’t know yet.”
------
Meanwhile, while Lucifer sat at his books, God appeared across from him, legs crossed, a small smile on his face. “Thwarted again, hmm, Lucifer? You’ll have to wait again if you kill it. You should have taken the girl when you had the chance.”
“I will not have a girl succeed me.”
“You wouldn’t have anyone succeed you, Lucifer. Take it or leave it, or wait again. Let her carry to term and do as you need to. I will grant you at least that.”
“You will grant me nothing! This is my world, not yours. You’d fair well if you did not tell me what to do.”
“Fine, fine. Have it your way, but think about it. Whether you kill it now, or at birth you will still have to wait another couple of millennia. May as well wait and see what happens.”
......
The weeks passed into months and the narrow curves of her body slowly morphed into a rounder, larger version. She again found herself naked in front of a mirror, studying the rounder form that now stared back at her. "I have to say my dear, it suits you; this new body of
yours." She turned and found that Lucifer had snuck up on her. He had been hanging around more and more and she was getting more wary of him. She felt his hand on her arm as she reached for something to cover herself with and he pulled it away.
"Thank you. I think..." voice quiet she frowned at him and tried to pull her wrist from his grip. It only tightened, blood oozed between his fingers as the wounds bled beneath his hand.
"Let me look at you" He reached up to her face and she flinched; but he only pulled her hair out of the bun and let it fall down her shoulders. Taking her other hand he spread her arms and looked at her, head c****d before he let her hands drop. She didn't know what he was up to but she was ready to call for Lucian. He was never too far away these days. "Yes. Quite the beautiful young mother. Lucian must be very proud of himself. He likes breaking the rules” His voice was flat and he crossed his arms as he inspected her like a piece of meat.
"He’s not. He’s quite disgusted with himself I think.” She said.
"This was supposed to be mine." His hand dug into the side of her belly, grabbing what was inside.
"Well it's not. Please let me go, Lucifer...you're hurting me." He did and started walking away.
"The end is coming my Darling, better prepare yourself."
"What did he mean Lucian; it was supposed to be his, that the end is coming?" She turned around, she knew he had been standing in the doorway, watching. She resented him for not interrupting. She grabbed the towel and wrapped it around her torso, pulled her hair back into a bun and turned toward the bathroom. He caught her from behind and she stopped as he wrapped his arms around her, put his chin on her shoulder.
"Do you really want to know?"
"Yes”. She swayed her hips a little, something she had started to do the bigger she got, as if she was rocking the baby before it was born. He swayed with her, his hand slipping into the towel and letting it drop. He didn't care how her body had changed, he was still obsessed with her, and how good he felt inside her, how good she smelled.
"Just as God was allowed a son to save man-kind, Lucifer is promised a child to destroy it." His hand ran over her breasts, down her abdomen. "He had no plans for you to carry it in the beginning. He really had no interest in you at all. You kept me happy, and out of his way." He kissed her neck, she could feel him growing against her. "But he changed his mind."
She turned her head a little to look at him. "So you fixed that, didn't you?"
"Not on purpose. I was angry with you, furious. It was not my intentions Addison, what was the chance?"
"50/50, the chance was 50/50..." She closed her eyes and shook her head a little. "But?"
"He is going to take it. This was supposed to be his glory, Addison. Only one hybrid child is to exist and it was supposed to be his, I took his chance at destroying the human race. So he is going to take it back." He traced a thin scar on her shoulder, ran his finger down her back following the path of the scars to the small of her back. Nostrils flared and she bit her lip, anger overtaking what his touch could make her feel.
"You did this on purpose. You're both so f*****g greedy." She turned to face him. "Did you ever stop and think what this would do to me, how hard this is for me?" His smile melted. She turned and picked up the towel, wrapped herself again. "You don't care, either of you. All you want is your damn war. Don't forget I hold the key to your war right now, I could throw myself down a flight of stairs and it would all be over." Their months of no arguments, of as close to happiness she'd had in most of her lifetime was shattered right there. She felt like hitting him but she didn't, just turned toward the bathroom. He took a few strides behind her. "Don't follow me. Don't touch me, don't do anything." She was emotional, and she knew it, but couldn’t help how she was feeling right now.
"It's not wise to threaten his plans, Addison. He has waited for this since the day he was cast from the Heavens."
"And what are those plans exactly? You’ve both been so secretive about this. I don’t know what to think. You have meetings without me; he’s let me keep it just to take it? And then what? He’s certainly not going to raise it on his own.” She slammed the door, the lock clicked into place.
“Addison…”
She screamed in frustration from behind the door. She had found over the months that she had gained a certain amount of status. She could do as she pleased without punishment and it made her far more confident around people who could easily destroy her, she had the upper hand on this one and she knew that now.
