Chapter 39

1115 Words

Miguel followed Laura’s family inside, his footsteps sounding against the hard floor. The front door clicked shut behind him, leaving Ash outside, standing guard just like the men. Laura’s parents seemed frozen, still processing what was happening. Laura, however, pushed through the silence, her voice low and soft. “Please, sit,” she said, gesturing toward the living room. Miguel gave her a small nod "Thank you." He took the seat she offered, sitting across from her parents. Their expressions revealed that they were still in disbelief, especially Laura’s mother, whose wide eyes barely blinked as they fixated on Miguel. She looked at him as if he were a ghost. Miguel cleared his throat, trying to ease the tension. “I’m here for two reasons,” he began, his voice as calm as possible.
