Laura sat across from Miguel in his office, her fingers intertwined and resting on her lap.
“I’m not trying to interfere,” Laura began cautiously, her tone measured. “But I was talking with Elizabeth about Isaac Brown, and something she said really surprised me.”
Miguel leaned back in his chair, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly. “What did she say?”
“She said the reason Isaac hasn’t been arrested yet is because… well, because of you.” Laura’s voice softened at the end, as if saying the words aloud made them more real.
Miguel didn’t flinch. Instead, he held her gaze with a calm intensity. “She’s right,” he said matter-of-factly.
Laura blinked, surprised by his candor. “So, you’re holding back? Even though you have the evidence to take him down right now?”
