Chapter 4

522 Words
Selene had learned to stop expecting answers, but that didn’t mean she’d stop searching for them. She was ready to find out anything concerning what's happening, and was ready to sacrifice and go to any length to find out the truth. The Blackwood estate was massive, with too many locked doors and whispered conversations that ended the moment she walked into a room. It was clear—something was being kept from her, something is really being hidden from her and she needs to know what that is . That night, unable to sleep, she felt exhausted but still. She stood up from the couch, wore a jacket she picked from the table and went outside. She followed the murmurs she was hearing, tip-toeing down a dimly lit hallway. Ronan’s deep voice was low but urgent, and another voice—his father's (Alpha Blackwood)—responded in a grave tone. As though they didn't want their conversations to be heard. She put her ears close to the door, eavesdropping on their conversation. “She doesn’t know what she is, ” Alpha Blackwood said. “And that might not keep her alive. ” Selene’s heart pounded, her heart beats faster than usual. She felt scared. What did he mean by that ? She edged closer. “Damon won’t stop, I know him too well, he doesn't stop until he gets what he wants ” Ronan muttered. “The Moonstone— ” A floorboard creaked under her foot. Silence. Then, heavy footsteps approached, twisting the door knob. Before she could escape, the door swung open, and Ronan stood there, eyes locked onto hers like he already knew she’d been listening. “You really don’t know when to stay out of trouble, do you?” he said, pulling her inside. “I'm trying to save you from a lot and you are making things worse. Just stay out of this, Selene ” She yanked her arm free. “Then tell me the truth! What am I? Why is Damon after me? “ I - I need answers, Ronan. And then maybe I can step back. Tell me what's all this all about. All this is making me go crazy” Selene yelled. Alpha Blackwood stood by the couch in silence. Alpha Blackwood sighed, but it was Ronan who finally answered. “You’re not just a werewolf, Selene. You’re the key to something much bigger. Something way more bigger than you can ever imagine. ” The words settled heavily in her chest. It felt like a load had been put on her chest. She wasn’t just a lost girl caught between two dangerous men. She was something else entirely. Something she has no idea about. But before she could ask more, a loud howl echoed outside—followed by a scream. Damon had sent a message. And this time, it wasn’t just for her. Selene, Damon and Damon’s dad rushes outside to see one of Ronan’s pack members injured. He was bleeding, and barely clinging to life. A symbol is carved into his chest—one that seems very similar, she could recognise it from her dreams.
