CHAPTER 4
The next morning, as Selma was preparing to leave for school, she received a telephone call from her Aunt Phebe in Cendera. Selma was startled when the phone rang. She did not receive many calls. Selma had not heard from her aunt since she had called to let her know they had arrived safely.
“Hello, Aunt Phebe, how is everyone?” asked Selma.
“We are all okay. How do you like living in Oklahoma?” asked Phebe.
“I love it here. Everyone treats me very well, and I am getting ready to graduate from high school,” said Selma.
“Have you applied for college?” asked Phebe.
“Yes, I am waiting to see if I am accepted,” confirmed Selma.
