Chapter 3.Ice cream date

906 Words
So, we continued walking until we reached a small place where they sold ice cream. Unfortunately, there was only one last cone left. After a moment of hesitation, we decided to share it. The ice cream man, Mr. John, was one of the best ice-cream sellers around the neighborhood. Seeing our situation, he smiled and handed us the cone with two straws. It was vanilla—my favorite flavor. Surprisingly, Jeremiah loved vanilla too. We have the same taste, I thought to myself. We started enjoying the ice cream, slowly sipping and laughing together. When it was almost finished, Jeremiah gently pushed the cone toward me. “You can have the last sip,” he said. I was so surprised and a little touched. I slowly sipped the remaining ice cream until it was gone. Then we broke the cone into two halves—he took one half and I took the other. Soon, it was time for us to head home. As we walked, I asked him to tell me something about himself. He paused for a moment before speaking. “My mom died when I was twelve,” he said quietly. “I have four siblings. The first two are still in school, while the others are already working. I decided not to continue my education for now. I want to start a business and make a living independently.” He explained that he had to stay with his aunt for a year, a decision his father made and he accepted. “I really love business,” he added. Then we started talking about our hobbies. “I love listening to music,” he said. “And football too. I prefer hanging out in small circles.” Before he could ask about me, I began talking. “I love singing and dancing—” “Wait… you love dancing?” he interrupted with a smile. I laughed softly. “I also love singing and watching movies—” “You love movies? I love movies too!” he said excitedly. We both smiled at each other. “I also love cooking,” I continued. “And I enjoy going out… like going to the cinema and traveling.” “That’s nice,” he said. Then I asked him about his goals and ambitions. For a moment, he looked a little reluctant to answer, so I decided not to push him further. Eventually, we reached my house. Before leaving, he gave me a warm hug, and we said goodnight. I quietly entered the house, locked the door, and breathed in relief. But suddenly, I froze. Caleb was standing right in front of the door, staring at me suspiciously. “Serena, where have you been?” he asked. “I… I went to buy something,” I said quickly. “Then I stopped by to visit my friend Jessica.” “Jessica?” he asked. “Yes… Jessica,” I repeated nervously. He stared at me for a moment before stepping aside. I quickly climbed the stairs to my room, closed the door, and jumped onto my bed. I felt strange… like something inside me had changed. Soon it was dinner time. My mom had cooked spaghetti and meatballs. We sat down and ate quietly until, suddenly, my mom brought up something unexpected. “Serena,” she said, “remember the other day when that boy came here to apologize? The one named Frederick?” My heart started beating faster. “What exactly happened between you two?” I hesitated… then I lied. “He was driving past and splashed water on me,” I said. “It stained my uniform, so he came to apologize.” My mom nodded slowly. “Hmmm… okay.” After dinner, Caleb went to wash the plates while I went upstairs. I took my shower and prepared for bed, starting my usual skincare routine. Then I picked up my phone. I saw a message from Frederick. Hi. What’s up? Can you come downstairs? I quickly looked out my window and saw Frederick standing beside his car. I glanced toward Jeremiah’s room. The lights were off. It seemed like he wasn’t around. Carefully, I opened my window, stepped onto the tree branch beside it, and quietly climbed down. “What’s up?” I asked when I reached him. “I’m good,” Frederick replied with a smile. “Can I take you out? I want to make up for what happened last time.” I hesitated, but I didn’t want to turn him down. “Sure,” I said. I got into the car. Thankfully, I was already wearing a nice dress—because, honestly, I always love looking my best. Frederick drove us to a place where there was a car competition happening. Many people were gathered there, cheering loudly as drivers prepared for a race. Just then, I saw three familiar faces. Frederick. Toby. And… Jeremiah. Wait… is that Jeremiah? I screamed inside my head. I quickly tried to hide, but it was too late. His eyes had already landed on me… scanning my outfit. Oh gosh, I thought nervously. I turned to Frederick. “Frederick… can we leave now?” “No,” he said confidently. “The race is about to start. If I win, I’ll get ten thousand dollars!” Meanwhile, Jeremiah stood across the track… staring at both of us with a very angry glare.
