1 year later and this is the day of our graduation.
"Congratulations, Jerrald!" Jerrald hug me at the same time.
"Congratulations to you, too Elaine!" I also hugged him tightly, too.
"I'm happy Jerrald! We've finished college!" I said at the same time I was laughing with giggling.
"I'm happy for the two of us Elaine," Jerrald said with a smile.
I’m also happy for both of us and our fellow students. Congrats to all of us." I replied cheerfully. I noticed that Jerrald had lost himself so I frowned.
"Hey! What happened to you Jerrald and why are you stunned there. Are you okay? Are you feeling well?" I said with concern.
"Ah, I'm fine Elaine," He replied as if waking up from a dream.
"Ah, eh, why you look stunned?" My answer.
"N-nothing! I just thought of something." His answered.
"Jerrald, where are we going now to celebrate our graduation?" I asked him.
"Don't worry, I know a restaurant and their food is delicious." He replied.
"All right. We'll celebrate with mom. Okay?" My answer.
"Of course! I'm with my parents." Jerrald replied.
"When is that?" I asked.
"Tomorrow. My father will be back tonight from Cebu. So let's celebrate tomorrow." He replied.
"All right, all right. What time is it?" I questioned.
"At six o'clock, I will fetch you," Jerrald replied.
"Okay," I replied. Those around were having fun and also talking about their respective celebrations.
The family of Jerrald came to us and my mother, too.
"Hello, Mrs. Degosman. I am very happy that our children are now graduated. Congratulations Jerrald and to you, my daughter." As my mother hugged me and Jerrald. Happiness is written on my mother's face.
"Jerrald, Mrs. Degosman. We are leaving now." My mother said to them.
" Oh, come with us, Mrs. Cruz. Congratulations, Elaine! Congratulations my son!" Mrs. Degosman said cheerfully.
"Oh, don't bother, Mrs. Degosman. It's embarrassing. We'll just take a taxi." My mother refused.
"Oh, don't be shy, Rosa. It's spacious in the van and it will be easy and comfortable for both of you to go home. After all, we have the same road to take. "Jerrald replied.
"Yes, Rosa. Ride with us." Janice, Jerrald's youngest sister Invited us.
My mother and I looked at each other.
"Eh, aren't we bothering you, Mrs. Degosman?" My mother answered, looking at Mrs. Degosman.
"Oh, no, Mrs. Cruz. After all, we're passing through your place on our way home, eh, come with us. Isn't that better?" Answered by Mrs. Degosman.
"If it's okay with you, we'll go with you. Thank you very much for that." mom said.
"Yes, let's go home then." Mrs. Degosman replied. And at once we went to the Van of the Degosman family and rode there.
While we were on the flight, Jerrald interrupted what we had been talking about.
"Mom, Elaine and I talked about celebrating our graduation tomorrow at the restaurant. After all, dad will be home tonight, right?" Said Jerrald.
"Your plan is okay. And which restaurant did you think to celebrate?" Mrs. Degosman asked me.
"I don't know to Jerrald, Mrs. Degosman." My answered. Mrs. Degosman turned around to Jerrald.
"I plan on celebrating at Maple Restaurant, mom," Jerrald replied.
"Maple Restaurant? Oh, that looks like an expensive restaurant, Jerrald. I've heard that." Mom said.
"Don't worry, Rosa. I'll answer everything. This is my gift to your daughter as a graduation gift." Jerrald replied.
"Oh, Jerrald! That is very thoughtful of you. I haven't given a gift to you yet. Maybe mom and I will just share the cost." I told him.
"Oh, don't worry about the share...as I said my son said a while ago we will shoulder the cost. That is our gift for both of you." Mrs. Degosman replied.
The Degosman family is one of the wealthiest families in Aren City. And I was so lucky that Jerrald and I became friends. Because the Degosman clan is kind and humble. They are not arrogant people.
The Degosman delivered us to our home. Mom and I thanked the family before getting out of the van.
When we entered the house, mom and I rested on the sofa. I removed my graduation cap and black gown.
"Hey, thank you, Elaine. You finished college...and you have a good friend who helps us. As of today, we had no difficulty riding. After all, it's hard to get a taxi now because it's graduation day and we'll probably take a long time to ride if we didn't ride in the van of the Degosman family." Mom told me.
"Yeah, mom. It's good that Jerrald is there...he is always there for me, for us, and helps. "I replied. I took off my shoes and put on my slippers.
"Elaine, let me just ask you. Please don't be angry, huh?" My mother asked.
"What's that, mom?" My answered.
"Elaine, your best, Jerrald...don’t you feel anything for him more than friends?" My mother asked.
"Oh, mom. I want to but I really don't have any feeling for him that is more than friends. We're really just friends." My answer. My mother sighed.
"Oh, okay. Let's rest. If there is nothing really. let's go rest now. I am tired." My mother answered and she went up to our room and I followed.
The next day, I woke up early to make a resume to apply to the hospital where I did my O.J.T.
I graduated with a B.S of Nursing as well Jerrald. It's easy getting into where you took O.J.T. because I already have a record there. I trained at a private hospital.
Knock. Knock. As I heard a knock at the doo. I first emailed my resume to the company I was going to apply for before I stood up and opened the door.
"Oh, mom," I said.
"Elaine, breakfast is ready...go down first and eat. "My mother replied.
"All right, mom. Let's go." I said and I closed the door of my bedroom.
My mother and I had breakfast together.
"Elaine, what were you doing in the bedroom earlier?" My mother asked.
"Ah, I made a resume, mom, and I emailed it to the company as well" I answered.
"Hey, where did you apply?" My mother asked.
"Still there, mom, at Dr. Reyes Hospital where I did my practicum," I answered.
"Ah, okay. It's good that you applied there. It's easier for you to get in there because you have a good record." My mother's response.
