"Yes, mama okay will do, thanks will be there on time, yes mama" that's all I heard as Daniel talked on the phone with his mother pacing in the bedroom, and I was crossing my fingers that that woman was not coming here for Thanksgiving, sorry I mean my mother-in-law. That woman hated me for reasons only known to her, but I tolerated her because we both loved Daniel.
"Bye, mama, love you too" he said ending the call and I gave him a questionable look
"She's coming here for two days and she already boarded the plane," He said, sitting on the bed.
"Are you sure, she was on the plane already?" I asked him just to make sure that we can't make up an excuse for why she can't come, that woman lives to frustrate me, and Daniel knows it too.
"Yes, now you know the drill, take out everything that's not mine from the bedroom and I will start with the pictures" he said getting up, and I groaned packing the little things I will need to the room next to ours, I was just grateful that I had a lot of clothes so I chose the closet in that room to put my clothes in, I only packed cosmetics, robes and all the little stuff I was going to need in that two days
"How long do we have to do this, Daniel? can't we just tell her the truth, that I'm not your roommate anymore but your husband of five freaking years" I whined, it was difficult for me to always pretend to be a friend when his overbearing mother came into town, and let's not forget the heart attack scare, I thought rolling my eyes, yes I couldn't put it pass her to fake it
"Babe, you know I can't, remember she had a heart attack the day I told her I was gay, I don't want my s****l orientation to kill the only family I have left" He said making me even more angry, I was also his family but now was not the time to get into that
"So you now call me a s****l orientation?" I said standing by the bathroom door with my hands on my waist watching him take off all our framed pictures, where we were intimate, and the big one from the courthouse from when we got married, wearing tuxedos. One of the best days in my life.
"No baby, that's not what I meant and you know it" he said leaving what he was doing and hugged my waist from behind kissing my neck making me whine, softening me up
"But it's been five years Daniel, that I had been your secret, while you know my family and they even accepted you, is it too much to ask for the same treatment?" I whined more as he sucked my neck, damn him for turning me on when I was angry
"baby I married you, I love you, let's just get through this two days okay? and everything will go back to normal after she leaves" he said and I whined before mumbling an okay and I love you too
"Now let us get finished in here, so we can go fetch her by the airport, her flights lands in thirty minutes and you know how she hates it when I'm late" he said leaving my waist and I felt cold without his touch but he was right, I knew her well, she hates waiting, and me of cause, so I knew this two days were going to drain me to the core
The drive to the airport was quiet only music playing in the background and I was nervous, second guessing everything, like what I was wearing, even my hair cut, it was hard wanting approval from someone who didn't like you, and who didn't even think of you as a son in law or even gay, but I loved Daniel enough to tolerate being his secret, even though it was hard on me, on days like this.
On his family gatherings and when people start to ask why he's always bringing me along, and the famous question, when are you getting married? Like b***h please his already taken, but I can't even say that, can I?
We reached the airport ten minutes before his mother's so called flight arrival time, and guess what? She was already standing by the arriving doors with two big bags by her feet and a scrawl on her beautiful face, she was wearing an elegant white suit pants, and left her short hair loose and curly, making an impression on older man who were passing by, heck even younger ones were looking at her, and I internally laughed because if they knew the real her, they would have ran fast at first glance
"You're late, Daniel" she said glaring at her son, then her eyes landed on me and she looked at me up and down with disapproval shaking her head before she spoke, and I wondered what was wrong with my outfit, it was a simple white shirt, paired with a blue ripped skinny jeans and white converse
"And you, can't you welcome me with a greeting, a hug or even flowers, that's the least you could do, since my son let's you live in his house for free" she hissed, and I being stupid, I went in for a hug but her hand stopped me before I could even get close to her
"Too late" she said looking at her son, and pinched his cheeks turning him red
"you look thin, you need food in that skinny body of yours, now let that friend of yours carry the bags since he ate all your food" she said walking away
I glared at her back and looked at Daniel who gave me his apological face.
"Did your mother just called me fat" I asked him but he just mumbled a sorry and went after her leaving me with the two heavy bags, and I took a deep breath before talking them to the car that was already waiting for me in the airport parking lot
"Took you long enough" she said as I entered the car after putting her bags in the boot
I didn't answer as I took a seat in the back, wondering what she put inside the bags that made it so heavy, and why was she carrying two big bags if she was only planning to stay with us for two days?
