3. A Little Glimpes Of The Past.

Mia's Point Of View

When I wake up the next morning Iam in my bed, and I have no clue how I get here. I must have fell asleep while I was with Jace and he carried me back home.

Cause if not I have to go to magic stuff for explanation, which won't be pretty.

With that in mind I get up, wash up and goes down for breakfast.

Mia: Good morning dad.

Chris: Morning Mia.

Mia: So any plan for today?

Chris: The usual. Going to the hospital. Oh! Jace ask leave for you for today. Got plans?

Mia(confuse) : I don't know.

Chris: Don't wanna share? Well, my baby is all grown up. Now she doesn't even share her plans with me no more.

And he dramatically wipes his invisible tears. All the dramatic people are with me. I tell you, Justin is rubbing off on him.

Mia: Seriously dad!

Chris: Not even a word of comfort just(mimicking her) seriously dad.

And he wipe off another invisible tear and me, I just look at him with a gaze of disappoint.

Mia: Dad!

Chris : After all that I have done for you.

Seriously drama kings but even me, I

childishly stomp my foot and whine.

Mia: Dad! Cut it out.

Chris(Laughing) : Okay ,Okay! I was just kidding.

Mia: But why did Jace ask for a leave?

Chris: I don't know. He said he will pick you up in the morning, when he carry you home last night.

Mia: So I did fell asleep.

Chris: Yup and he did carry you home. Poor boy he must be tired lifting such a heavy being.

Mia(shrugging) : Well if your boyfriend is as built as Jace, you gotta take advantage of it. And you are my dad, why are you taking his side?

Chris(confused): What logic is that.

Mia(complaining): You should know! You must always takes my side.

Childish? I know. But my dad should be proud of me that I found someone who can carry me and not worry for him, he has his own, no need to steal mine.

Chris(laughing): Of course IAM your dad and if you see taking advantage is fit, then advantage it is.

With that he kiss me on my forehead and say his goodbye to go for work. And just so you are wondering why Jace ask leave from dad, he is the founder of the hospital I work at, along with my biological father making him the director, so my boss.

With that I hear my phone ring. Which turn out to be Jace calling and as I pick up I hear Jace saying.

Jace: Good morning angel.

Mia: Morning Jace. By the way, why ask leave? Are we doing something today?

Jace: Yes we are, so get ready I'll be there in five minute.

Mia: Okay, but what are we doing?

Jace: You will know soon.

With that he hang up and me I just keep on drinking my juice cause I don't think we are doing anything fancy and dressing up is not really my thing.

Iam way too lazy to always dress up. So an oversized black shirt with a ripped jean and a sneaker it is.

While I finished up, I hear a car honking. Jace must be here. So I put on my shoe and rush out. When I went out Jace was there, standing besides his car looking as dashing as ever. He is wearing a black shirt with a ripped jeans as well.

Jace: Hey angel!

Mia(excited) : Hey! Look we are twinning. And we didn't even plan it.

Jace(chuckling softly): Don't you know? Great mind think alike! Now hop on, let's get going.

With that I get into the car and off we go, but where are we going anyway.

Mia: Where are we going?

Jace: It's a surprise!

Mia:You know I hate surprises. It makes me anxious.

As I complain, he just look at me warmly with a smile and pat my head while saying.

Jace: Don't be anxious, its nothing big just a small surprise and we will be there very soon.

With that we drive on for about half an hour and come to a stop at a small diner, which look like it was misplaced.

It look completely out of place with all the huge huge building surrounding it within the busy street.

Jace: Come on let's get in.

Mia: This is the surprise?

Jace: Curious soul, just follow you will know soon. Come on.

With that we went in and the inside look more out of place. Cause in this place it seems time stop in the 90's. The diner was cozy with huge couches place everywhere, serving coffee in huge mug, and the muffins there make me salivate.

Old landline phone are place in the reception areas and some worn out clock is hang just above the brown counter in the wall. In other corner, thousands of pictures are paste in the wall making it look beautiful and memorable . It look and also smell absolutely lovely.

While I was looking around Jace has find us a table and goes to order, I think.

Cause it look like its self serve. But rather than coming back with the delicious treat he come back with a man. A man who look like he is in his fifties, with a little gray hair and a rugged facial hair, come up.

Jace: Angel say hello, this is Brain and Brain this is Mia.

After Jace's little introduction I get up and say hello while shaking his hand.

Brain: Nice to finally meet you Mia. I have heard a lot about you.

Mia: Hopefully all good things.

Brain: Of course, your father and even Jace knows only good thing about you.

I smile at that, while we all sit down in this huge comfortable couch. But I was confuse, cause Jace and my dad never mention him and Jace don't seem that close with him either; by seeing his reserved attitude. Jace must have seen my confusion cause the next thing he start explaining.

Jace: You know how I get you that photo frame for your birthday.

Mia: Yes?

Jace: I get it from Brian.

I was shocked, if he have that photo then he might know my parents. Happiness fill me up as hope to know my parents a little more come back, with the perfect chance of success.

Mia(excited) : You know my parents?

Brain: I know your father, he was an old mate of mine. And you must be his daughter little Mia right?

Mia: And you know me too?

Brain: How can I not , all you father do is talk about you and also you look exactly like Adam and Julia in one person.

And I just look at him expecting him to say more, caused I was thirsty for any information regarding my parent. He must have understand my eagerness as he keep on narrating with a soft smile on his face.

Brain: Your father was a regular in my café since he was in his twenties. He always comes by and sit where we are sitting right now and just read his books or write in his journal drinking his coffee keeping to himself. But slowly slowly we started asking each other and in no time we become friends.

Mia: Can you tell me more please?

Brain: Of course. Your dad, he was a quite person. He don't talk much, always minding his own bussiness, and also quite a gentleman. But although he don't talk that much when something about his family comes up, he become the most talkative. He talk about you and your mom with a different shine in his eye, he was always happy and very willing to talk about you guys. He take hours and hours ranting about how cute and lovely his daughter is and how lucky he is to have a wife like Julia. He was one hell of a great guy.

Luckily I even got the chance to meet your mother once. She was a beauty like yourself. She have the most stunning green eye with midnight black hair which intensify her paper white pale complexion. She carried herself with such grace that everyone know just by a glance that she was an intelligent person. And although I don't know her that well, just by meeting her once I can tell she was a kind and very welcoming person. Warm radiate out of her like an aura.

Both of them were stunning with great personality. I know your dad as a friend but when I think about it, I don't really know much about him. He was just the guy who always comes for coffee with his journal on him all the time. And I can see that you are really eager to know more about them, Iam sorry that I can't tell you much.

Mia: No! Thank you. You don't know how happy you have make me feel. This is the first time I got to know so much thing about my parents, so thank you.

Brain: Alright alright you are gonna make me emotional too if this continue on, but I have something for you.

And with that he brought out and give me an old wallet and a brown covered worn out book which look pretty old. I look at him confused but nevertheless took it.

Mia: What's this?

Brain: That's your dad journal, the day before he passed, he come visit as usual and write to himself but suddenly he cry out in happiness and hug me shouting that he made it. I thought all will be well afterward but sadly things turn to worst. Anyway that day he run away leaving everything he came with, leaving this journal and his wallet. That is how I get that picture which Jace gave you. It was in his wallet.

And me I just look at the book and the small baby picture of myself in his wallet and don't know when tears come streaming down. I don't know why Iam crying. Maybe I am too happy, feeling that I get a little closer to my parent, or maybe Iam just sad that I don't gotta be a part of their life or maybe I feel overwhelmed by all the information I just get; but I cried and keeps on crying.

While I cried I feel Jace hugging me whispering sweet nothing to my ear.

Saying everything is okay, and this is a happy occasion not something to bitterly cry about. And I just greedily hug him back.

Brain: Don't cry little one and just know you were and are the joy of your parents. They were happy to have you as their daughter and loved you very much. They must be proud of seeing their little one grown up so well.

I just jump up and hug Brain getting him off guard. But nonetheless he just laugh softly and hug me back. I also did not miss his teary eye.

Mia: Thank you, thank you very much.

Brain: Pleasures all mine.

With that Jace and me went away but not without the muffins. I have a whole lot of it with me.

And now we are in a beach eating ice cream watching the sun set, fighting to shine as bright as it did in its last minute, which bring out a whole different beauty of it own.

Mia: Jace?

Jace:Hmm?

Mia: How did you got to know Brain knows dad? And because Iam Jace is not valid.

This man's cockiness can be a whole different level. While he just laugh, embrace me sideways in a warm hug and explains.

Jace: I went to have a coffee with a friend where I coincidentally saw that baby picture of yours hang in the wall. I recognize it's you, so I ask the owner who is Brain, about the picture and we got to talking and arranging and here we are.

Jace is really best, Iam damn lucky to have him in my life but what shock me was a friend? He does not have one or I just don't know any of his friends after three years of knowing him.

Mia(teasing tone) : Wait wait, a friend! You don't have one.

When I said that, for a minute I saw panic in his eye but it was gone as soon as it come. And with a dramatic sigh he says.

Jace: After all that I have done for you, all I got is this mockery. Just so you know I do have friends.

Mia: Tch don't lie, you don't have friends.

Jace: Iam offended angel, I do have many friends.

Mia: Well then, they must be invisible ones cause I don't see any in all this years I have known you.

Jace: I'll let you meet them someday.

Mia: Why someday? You are planning to make new ones aren't you?

Jace: Of course not I do have friends.

Mia: Then let me meet them.

Jace:Whatever my angel say she gets, I'll call them over this weekend cool?

So he do have friends. It weird that I never meet them while here Justin is changing to his side. But just to tease him I said.

Mia: I wonder where you can buy friends.

Jace: Tch! You will see. But angel, Iam just saying this but I don't think you have any friend either.

Just then my phone rings showing Justin calling. Nice timing my good friend. I childishly stuck out my tongue and show him the phone indicating I too have a friend in which he just muttered very lowly to himself but I heard it anyway

Jace: That little, its like he know Iam about to win and ruins it.

Mia: HI Justin.

Justin: Hmmm? Weird, you are responding so happily which means I did something for your good which means I did something bad for Jace right.

Mia: I really have a great and a true friend who know me so well unlike someone else who is going to buy some.

When I say that I can tell Justin was confused while Jace just glare at the phone.

Justin: What?

Jace(harshly): She means why do you call b***h!

And I just laugh at his unnecessary anger.

Justin: Iam no b***h, Iam a proud MALE dog.

Wow what a comeback, please note my sarcasm. I think Jace thought so too cause he answer with sarcasm dripping each of his words.

Jace: Yeah cause that's so much better.

Justin(nonchalant) : I don't care, you are mad that means I piss you off; so high five Mia.

And I laugh again as Justin words just make Jace more annoyed.

Mia(laughing): High five Justin. Anyway why did you call?

Justin: I call to ask why you didn't come to work today. Wait! Is that waves I hear, are you at a beach? Mia, you little, here I have to work for your shift and there you are enjoying with lover boy.

Mia: I I.... Ahhh

Justin: What I I, you forgot about me now that you have Jace, is that it? And above all this I have to work extra because of you and you call me a true friend, you little don't call me a friend no more.

With that he hang up. Tch that Justin I knew he hang up cause he have work. How I know? I can literally hear the nurse shouting that he have a patient. He just love drama, he don't even like going to the beach anyway. But when I look at Jace, I saw him smirking looking down at me and that means bad news for Mia.

Mia(suspiciously) : What?

Jace: Now who is the one who need to buy friends?

Tchhh that Justin really! No help whatsoever.

Mia: Hmphhh! I'll just find one, Iam good at making friends unlike someone who faint when you meet someone new.

Jace: Hey! That's so low of you. I was sick that day.

Mia(teasing tone) : Really?

Actually what happen was the day Jace meet my dad, he faint due to tiredness. He was so busy with his work but didn't want to say no to me, so end up overworking himself making time to meet my dad and end up fainting.

But after he wake up , Justin and me keep on teasing him he faint due to nervousness.

Jace: Of course! Its just that I meet fraud doctors who can't diagnose a patient.

Mia(sing-song voice) : Whatever make you sleep at night Jace.

Jace just look at me accusingly and the next second he was tickling me like anything and I was a laughing mess.

Mia: Stop, s..t..o..pp. Iam s..o...r.ry.

And I continue laughing for a while, as only after I was having a hard time breathing, did he stop. After which he just hug me laying down in the sand.

When gazing at the little speck of light left from the now nearly gone sun did I realize how big of a day has gone by and how lucky Iam to have Jace with me.

Mia: Thank you Jace. If not for you, I won't ever know the little things I know about my parent and will never be this happy.

Jace: I know.

Mia(laughing softly): You really are Cocky, you know that.

Jace: You love me anyway.

Mia(kissing his cheeks): That I do.

And he just give me a peck in the forehead while I also kiss his forehead, and we keep on sitting there until the sun completely disappear showing the end of another beautiful day. In that moment Jace stood up and give me his hand to take

Jace: Come on ,get up its getting late lets go back.

And I just stare at his hands having no intention of getting up or walking for that matter. So here drama begins.

Mia: I can't seems to get up. My body has fall asleep already and my head is the only part awake. Ohhh wait my hair just fell asleep too, wait my nose too and my eye is following. See.

With that I close one eye while he just look at me in disbelief and kneel down showing his back to me while saying

Jace: Hop on lazy angel.

While I just laugh out a victorious laugh and hop on shouting piggyback ride is the best; as we walk back to where we come from as I hear Jace whisper lowly to himself.

Jace: What a crazy angel.

Mia: You love me anyway.

Jace: That I do.

And that's how another beautiful day went by.
