Eli

Rae's point of view "How do you know my name?" I asked dumbfounded. "I know much more about you than just your name." Eli said taking a step closer. I took a step back, "But, how?" "I am sure your mother never told you but, I am your father." he said sighing. I shook my head, "No, that's not possible. My dad was a healer and helped the wounded in the war." "I am sorry, Rae. But its true. Your mother and I were in love but she also loved your father so we hid the relationship from him." He said while lifting necklace over his head and handing it gently to me. I recognized it as my mothers handiwork and it was magical. As I looked it over Eli pressed his thumb to the pendent causing it to fall open. So it was a locket, but unlike a standard lockets with a clasp this one used magic to open only with the owner's thumbprint. Inside the locket there were 2 pictures. One was a beautiful picture of my mother sitting and smiling in a forest without a care in the world. I ran my finger across the picture willing it to life. I missed her so much. I felt a few tears roll down my cheek as I turned my attention to the second photo. It was me, as a baby. It was the same baby photo of me my mother had on her nightstand. I looked up misty eyed at Eli who was waiting patiently for me to process the situation. I sobbed, "Why didn't you save her if you lovedher? You could have done something. She didn't need to die." "Rae, I promise you, if I was with your mother that day I would have done everything in my power to prevent her death." He paused, "Your mother had charged me with watching over you and your brother that day. I stayed hidden in the woods near your house watching it for any signs of danger. Luckily I was there too. One werewolf had made its way past our defenses and into the town. I was able to dispose of him before he got too close to you or your brother. You wouldn't have even known he was there." I blinked. I was prepared to be angry at him but he had saved my life at the cost of my mothers. That still didn't address the issue of him not fighting in the war though, "I appreciate you saving me. But you wouldn't have to if you had fought in the war. You could have turned the tide of the war and shortened it exponentially. My mother would still be alive if you hadn't refused." He nodded understanding my anger, "I know it seems like I abandoned my people, but I prefer to stay neutral. I do not like to use my powers to intervene unless absolutely necessary. Taking lifes, whether they are witch, werewolf, or human, I never took lightly. Witches and werewolves are both part of the same supernatural world and there is no reason we can't get along. If I had joined the fight I would have torn such a divide between the races we would never be able to coexist. More and more fights would have happened over time and the witches would be worse off then they are now." "I don't think that's true. Even without you fighting we are on the brink of another war. Werewolves and witches are natural enemies." "And who told you we were?" I stopped, thinking for a moment, "Everyone just agrees that we are." "But who started that and why does it have to continue?" I stuttered, "I don't know." "Exactly." I sighed this conversation was going anywhere, "So putting aside you joining the fight. Why do you live out here? Especially after my mother died why didn't you come into town to raise me anf and announce yourself as my father?" "I should have, but I was just so heartbroken over your mother that I became more secluded than normal. But I always kept an eye on you. I watched as your powers grew and realized you were going to be just as powerful as me if not more. I control water and plants. which allows me to create this oasis you are standing in. You however, control water and fire which, with the right training can be a deadly combination." I still wasn't quite sure about Eli but he was my father and could control two powers at once, "Will you train me?" He smiled, "Of course. I can teach you what I know and we can use the time to catch up." "Thank you, but I should be going home now. I will be back as soon as I can." He nodded, "Have a save trip back. The werewolves have increased their patrols as of late so be careful." With that he turned and placed his hand on a tree trunk. I watched as the vines moved revealing a hidden passage way in the tree with stairs leading underground. The vines closed around him like the entrance was never there as he walked through. So thats how he was able to hide himself all of these years. I best be going. The sun was starting to get lower in the sky. I started retracing my steps wondering how much of this I should tell Alex. He was my half brother not my full like I had thought this whole time. I feel like my childhood was a lie in a way and I suppose it was. The man that raised me turned out not to be my true father and I wonder if he even knew. I had a lot to think about. I quickly became lost in thought as I half paid attention to my surroundings. So much had happened today, more than I had ever expected.
