Chapter 1 (Where it all started)
It was Sunday afternoon when I arrived home from a weekend practice. I am a high school varsity student. I have loved sports since I was still young. I’ve been into sports since my grade school days. My friends call me “Miss loyal “. All my life I spend time practicing taekwondo. Yeah, you heard it right, I have been a taekwondo player since grade school. I love sports just as I love myself. “Dead meat?” I heard someone calling me. When I turned around, it was my best friend, Hannah. I met Hannah in a school playground at school. She looked at me a while and I smiled at her. That’s all where our friendship all started. I am Gin Chen, the youngest daughter of Chen’s family. I have 3 siblings in the family who are both professionals in their field that they have chosen. “Gin?! .. Gin?? .. Gin!!!!!!” she shouted while slapping my arm. I was so tired of that day I didn’t even hear that she was calling me. “So sorry Han, your friend here is so tired from practice. What’s up?”. I asked her. “You know, Gin, it’s Sunday!! Sunday is a rest day girl. I think you know the word REST DURING SUNDAY, right?”. I am a national team member for the Singapore taekwondo team. I keep myself busy practicing for the competition. Hannah knows how much I love taekwondo. Even on Sunday, I keep on practicing taekwondo. That’s why Hannah will get mad at me sometimes, because I am still busy during weekends. Hannah’s family are very close friends of our family. Hannah’s family is well known because of their law firm. Hannah’s father is part of the legal counsel of our company. “Well, let’s see if you can do that one next Sunday. I will tell your sister about it.” Hannah has been my best friend since our high school days. I feel happy when I am with her. She was always present in every competition that I had for school. She also loves participating in academic competitions. I am always there every time she competes. She supports me every time I win and cheers me up when I feel down. Until I developed something that I didn’t expect. 9 am on Saturday in May when I went to Hannah’s place to pick her up since we are going to spend time at the mall. I was not busy at that time since I was advised to rest for 2 weeks due to injury. Hannah asked me to go out since she wanted to buy a dress that she would wear for the prom. Hannah chooses a pink color for her prom. I told her not to choose that color because it didn’t fit well with the prom theme. And also, I don’t like the pink color of a dress. I chose a different color for her and she loved it. When she tried to fit the dress, I was stunned by her beauty. That was the first time I saw her wearing a dress. I kept looking at her and I didn't realize that she was already talking to me. I was surprised when I saw her wearing that dress. It was my first time for me to see her wear a formal dress. “Did you take your medicine? Your sister would surely be mad at me if she knew that I didn’t take care of you.” She teased me since she knew that my sister is so scary. “Yes ma’am! But can you please help me adjust the thing in my hand? It's so tight and it’s itchy.” My elbow is swelling like hell. “Are you sure you are okay spending time with me? It looks like your elbow is turning red now. Should I call your sister?” She was worried about my elbow, but then I told her not to call my sister. “Don’t you dare to call my sister if you don’t want to go home early?” It was painful but I can still manage the pain. I didn’t tell her the truth so that she would not get worried about me. I want her to enjoy this day by buying the things that she needs for her prom night. It will be her last prom night as a high schooler. She has already chosen the dress that she’s going to wear for the prom night. After buying the dress, we went to a fast food restaurant that we love and spent almost 2 hours sitting and talking about our plans in life and some non-sense stuff. Mostly, during our free time we spent eating or going to the mall just to relax sometimes. A rainy afternoon. I am in my freshman year when I feel something weird when I am with Hannah. Feeling that makes me happy every time I am with her. Hannah is in her senior year and she’s about to graduate from high school at Xavier Adamson University. She’s planning to go take Political Science. She wanted to become a lawyer just like her parents. I am planning to take Psychology when I get into college but I know it’s early for me to plan for college because I am still in my first year of high school. “Oh yeah, I will have a lawyer's best friend in the future. Will you help me when I am in trouble?” I asked her. “Oh no! You have a lot of family lawyers who can take care of you” she said. “I would appreciate it if you would say ‘yes I will be there when you need me’. That sounds good, Hann.” Then she laughed at me “let’s see what our future will be.” “Hey, you two ladies.” A shout from our close friend Alexa Smith. Alexa is Hannah’s classmate and also the only close friend that we have. “You guys what are you doing here? You guys don’t have plans on going home? Especially you, Hannah, tomorrow will be our last prom night. We will make sure that we are a head-turner tomorrow night, right, Gin?” then I replied “Absolutely!” Alexa, asked me from nowhere. “Is Hannah beautiful Gin?” And guess what? I froze. I can’t answer Alexa directly. I don’t know but I got nervous when she asked me that nowhere question. She caught me off guard with that question. I didn’t expect that she'd be going to ask me that kind of question in front of Hannah. Hannah is waiting for my answer. I am a little bit shy when I answered her “Yeah, she is!” I replied. “What took you so long to answer that simple question, Gin? HAHAHA.” Alexa sensed something about the answer that I gave her. She is not a simple girl. She loves to wear a fashionable outfit. She loves makeup and other fashion trends, but let me remind you. She is a keen observer. When I say “keen observer”, she’s like a tiger who will look at you when she senses something wrong or off on your answer. Saturday night, the night that Hannah waited. The last prom of her senior high days. At that time, I was in training preparing for the open tournament that will be held in San Diego, California. She texted me that she was already at the prom venue. She also reminded me to slow down during my practice. Hannah knew that when I was in training. I am too serious about it. I am focused. I don’t want to get disturbed. She keeps on updating me on what happened at the party.
