Lila's POV.
The night air was cold, and my heart pounded as I followed Vannik through the dense forest. I wished I could have appeared less pathetic, but every snap of a twig made me jump, and my thoughts raced with fear.
What was I doing?
Was I really going to leave Raze's pack? What if something happened to me? What if Raze did something to retaliate? Then what would be my fate? The doubt gnawed at me, but I kept moving, trusting Vannik and his good sense.
“We have to keep going.” Vannik whispered, his grip tight on my arm. “We don’t really have much time.”
“But Vannik, what if this is a mistake? Maybe we should go back.” I said, sounding less scared than I actually was. “You know, Raze said that he would protect me.”
Vannik stopped and turned to face me, his eyes hard and cold.
“Lila, Raze is a liar. He can’t be trusted. You saw what the council was ready to do. They want you dead. Raze can’t protect you from them, and I’m sure you being with him didn’t happen on good terms.”
I swallowed hard, his words sinking in. He was right about everything, especially the last. And the council’s decision to kill me was still fresh in my mind, and the fear of dying at their hands was overwhelming all my senses. Yet, why was it that something about leaving didn’t feel right to me?
“We have to go.” Vannik repeated, pulling me forward.
Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the trees, freezing us in our tracks. Dark wolves emerged from the shadows, their eyes glowing. My heart raced as I realised that we were surrounded.
“No no, what do we do?” I whispered, panic rising in my chest.
Before he could answer, a tall, slender figure stepped forward. His presence was terrifying, and a cruel smile twisted his lips.
“I am Razak, and I am the leader of the dark wolves.” He said, grinning down at me so sinisterly that it looked like he was sneering. “We have been waiting for you, Lila.”
I took a step back, my heart pounding in my chest.
“What do you want from me?”
“You possess great power, Lila. Power that we could use. You will be a very important person.” Razak said, his eyes gleaming. “Join us, and you will be unstoppable.”
“No!” I shouted, trying to muster as much courage as I could. I had heard stories of the dark wolves, and they were an evil, dangerous cult. “I will never join you!”
Razak laughed, and the sound that sent shivers down my spine.
“You don’t have a choice, my dear. You belong with us.”
Suddenly, a roar filled the air, and Raze burst into the clearing, his eyes blazing with anger. He didn’t waste any time, and charged at Razak, and the two clashed at each other in a fierce fight.
The dark wolves attacked, but Raze fought them off with relentless determination.
“Stay back!” Raze shouted at me, his voice commanding. “I’ll handle this.”
I watched in awe as Raze fought with unmatched strength and skill, driving the dark wolves away, it was no wonder that he had such a reputation. All that with only a sword. His presence was electrifying, and for the first time, I felt butterflies for the man who had taken me away.
Within moments, the dark wolves ran back with their tails between their hind legs, and Razak snarled at us in defeat.
“This isn’t over, Lila.” He hissed before disappearing into the shadows.
Raze turned to Vannik, his expression deadly.
“Stay away from her, Vannik. This is your last warning. I will not tolerate such a thing ever again.”
Vannik glared at Raze but said nothing, knowing he was outmatched. With a final, hateful glance at Raze, he started to walk away, and I watched until I could no longer see his back.
Raze walked over to me, and sucked in air through his teeth as he looked into my eyes.
“Are you okay?” He asked, his voice gentler than what I was used to.
I nodded, tears streaming down my face.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know what to do.”
He pulled me into his arms, holding me close.
“It’s okay, Lila. You’re safe now.”
We walked back to the pack in silence, and the tension between us was so thick that a knife could cut it. Once we reached my room, Raze closed the door behind us and turned to face me.
“Alright, why did you try to leave?” He asked, his voice cold and accusing. This was harsher than before, and I started to wonder if he had some sort of bipolar disorder.
“I was scared.” I admitted, my voice better now as I looked him in the eye. “Wouldn’t anyone else in my position do the same? I didn’t know what to believe.”
Raze’s eyes narrowed, his anger barely contained.
“You should have trusted me. I told you I would protect you.”
“I didn’t know if I could trust you!” I shot back, my own anger rising. “You’ve been nothing but cruel to me since we met!”
Raze stepped closer, his presence overwhelming me.
“Listen, I did what I had to do to keep you safe. You don’t understand the danger you’re in.”
“I understand perfectly.” I said, my voice shaking. “But you can’t control me. I’m not your property.”
His eyes flashed with anger, and he grabbed my arms, pulling me close.
“You’re mine, Lila. And I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe.”
Our faces were inches apart, and the tension between us was electric. Without thinking, I leaned in and kissed him, pouring all my fear, anger, and longing into that kiss. Raze responded with equal intensity, his hands roaming my body as he backed me against the wall.
“Raze.” I whispered, my voice breathless.
He pulled back just enough to look into my eyes, his gaze burning with desire.
“Tell me you want this, Lila. I need to hear it from you.”
“I want this.” I said, my voice trembling with need.
That was all the encouragement he needed. He lifted me like I weighed nothing, and I wrapped my legs around his waist as he carried me to the bed.
Our clothes came off in a blur as we stripped each other, and Raze’s hands were everywhere. It felt like although we were moving fast, he was taking his time, and his touch igniting a fire within me.
I moaned as he kissed his way down my body, tracing my curves with his fingers as he did so, and his lips and tongue drove me wild.
“Ready?” Raze asked, positioning himself at my entrance, and I nodded. When he finally entered me, it was like nothing I had ever felt before. The whole connection between us was intense, and we moved together in perfect rhythm.
“Raze.” I gasped, my nails digging into his back.
“Say my name.” He grunted, his thrusts becoming faster.
“Raze.” I moaned, my body trembling with pleasure and I was already myself floating out of my body and fading into oblivion. I felt like I was on the edge of something incredible. With a final, powerful thrust, Raze pushed me over the edge, and I cried out his name as waves of ecstasy washed over me.
We lay together, our bodies tangled and our breaths heavy. For the first time in a long while, I felt safe. I felt wanted. Raze held me close, his fingers wavy tracing patterns on my skin.
“I’ll protect you, Lila.” He whispered, his voice soft and tender. “No matter what. Okay?”
I closed my eyes, letting his words flow over me. In that moment, I believed him.
