The wise choice, or a terrible mistake?

Lila’s POV “She has an entity inside her. It’s Kwan, the demon wolf!” The oracle’s words made my heart drop. There I was on my knees, in the large hall, after the council reconvened. My knees still hurt from the fall, but what I just heard made me collapse on my side. “N-no. It can’t be. There must be some sort of mistake,” I muttered. Cold sweat formed on my forehead, and my entire body quivered from fear. “Silence, b***h!” Councilwoman Kate screamed at me. “Oracle, are you certain it’s Kwan? We all know Kwan is a legend, a cautionary tale used to scare insolent pups. We don’t even believe Kwan is real,” Alpha Raze said to the Oracle. “The dark wolves believe in Kwan’s existence. What if she’s their spy?” Another elder opined. The others began to chatter as I sat on my side. How did my entire world just fall apart under hours? At the side of the room was Vannik. He listened with intent as the council argued amongst themselves. Vannik had forced his way to join the meeting because of his ties with me. I felt very grateful for that. “What do we do now? How do we handle this?” Councilwoman Kate asked the Oracle. “Kwan is a very powerful demon that is prophesied to bring about the end of the world. Its influence is great and so is its power. If Kwan has fused with this child, she’s its host. To defeat Kwan, we must kill its host,” the Oracle stated. My heart skipped a beat. I quickly went back to my knees as tears streamed down my eyes. “No, wait, please. Don’t kill me. There’s a mistake. I don’t even have a wolf. Please!” I sobbed. I looked around for some compassion but what I found were judgemental looks. Alpha Raze had a poker face. I couldn’t tell what was going on in his mind, but Vannik seemed like he would burst me out of the pack if it came to that. “The Oracle has spoken. This monster must die!” Councilwoman Kate declared, and the other council members agreed in unison. “Not so fast,” Alpha Raze spoke, and immediately, the entire room went silent. He stood up from his seat and walked towards me. His presence was domineering, and strangely comforting. I looked up and caught his gaze, but I did not see judgement. Instead, I saw compassion...and love? “She’s my wife. Whatever happens to her has to be my decision,” Alpha Raze stated. “Not when the safety of this pack and the world at large are at stake. We’ve all seen what she can do. This monster almost ripped my daughter apart! Look at your face. She’s wounded you,” Councilwoman Kate yelled, and that instantly angered Alpha Raze. “She’s not a monster! Her name is Lila, and she’s my wife. Like you said earlier, she is my responsibility and I will deal with this the best way I believe,” Alpha Raze stated. I could barely believe what I was hearing. Was he defending me? Didn’t he hate me? “Then are you willing to put your title on the line? You may be the Alpha by right, but the council has the power to strip you off that title and elect another. If you really care for her as much as you claim, stake your title. The next time she acts out, you cease to be our Alpha, for you have been compromised!” Councilwoman Kate retorted. All eyes, including mine, fell on Alpha Raze. I believed he wasn’t going to do it. I wasn’t special, for I was just another plaything. “I accept your terms,” Alpha Raze said to them and I froze in shock. “Alpha Raze- “ I started, but he cut me off when he picked me from the ground and carried me in his arms. “Direct all of your grievances to me, but leave her alone,” he added and took me out of the hall. While he carried be back to the room, I said nothing to him. All I did was listen to the steady beating of his heart, and as he lay on the bed, I realized that Alpha Raze wasn’t scared of me. “Why did you do that? You shouldn’t have made that decision!” I snapped at him. There was no way I would accept him doing something so reckless, especially when I didn’t even understand what was happening to me. Was I truly possessed by Kwan? “I can’t let you die, Lila. I just can’t,” he responded. “But why? You don’t even like me! All I am to you is a w***e wife. Why would you do something so reckless?” I screamed at him while I cried. “Don’t f*****g make assumptions! You don’t know how I feel. Do you think it’s been easy for me to bring down walls I’ve built around myself just for you? From the moment I saw you yesterday, I was mesmerized by you. And when I touched you, that very first touch, I felt an electricity spread throughout my body. It’s something I haven’t felt since my mate died. So, forgive me for trying to save your life!” Alpha Raze yelled back. I just shuddered while I lay on the bed. A lot of things were happening so fast. I couldn’t even catch my breath. “So, what now?” I asked softly. “I don’t know...” He sighed and dug his hand into his hair. “I’ll think of something. In the meantime, stay in this room and don’t come out for any reason,” he added. Then Alpha Raze walked towards the door. My eyes fed themselves with the outline of his back, and the contracting muscles that danced underneath that tight white shirt. “Don’t worry, Lila. I’ll protect you,” he added and left the room. There I was with my thoughts again. I closed my eyes for a moment, but then I heard the door creak open. It was Vannik. “Vannik, what are you doing here?” I asked him. He just approached me and threw the sheets off my body. “Come with me. I’ll take you to my pack,” he said to me while he helped me stand. “But, Alpha Raze, he said he’d keep me safe,” I protested. “Don’t believe a word he says, Lila. He is a liar. Raze will never protect you. He killed his own mate, remember? Don’t fall for his lies,” Vannik said to me. I found myself in another ocean of confusion. “We have to go, now! We don’t have much time,” Vannik added and dragged me along. Like a zombie, I followed. But my guts protested. They screamed at me not to do it. At that moment, all I could think about was the terrible mistake I was about to make.
