LAUREY'S P.O.V
The alarm rang waking me up from my sleep. I climbed out of bed and went to the bathroom to freshen up. I came out with a towel wrapped around me. I went to my walk-in-closet and picked out the clothes I would wear.
After wearing my clothes, I did some chores to keep the house clean, ate some cereal and was making my way out when I remembered to check my Aunt and Uncle's room. I opened the door slightly and saw my Aunt and Uncle slouched and tangled messily on the floor. Alcohol bottles were scattered around them.
You might wonder why they're in that state and why I'm not living with my parents. Well, that's a story for another day. I sighed and closed their room door heading outside to catch a bus because I'm almost late.
I met Dylan at the bus-stop. He hasn't noticed me yet, he's still looking at his phone.
I sneaked up behind him and shouted: "Boo!"
He jumped and held his phone close to his chest. His face was hilarious, like he just saw a ghost; his face was pale.
I started laughing so loud that people turned to look at us, thinking I was under the influence of drugs or something. I clutched my stomach and laughed so hard tears were coming out of my eyes and my ribs were hurting.
I finally looked at Dylan and his eyes were narrowed into slits.
"What the heck Laurey? You almost gave me a heart attack." He said, shooting me a death glare.
"C'mon. It was not that bad." I smiled, waving it off with my hand.
"It wasn't that bad? My heart almost jumped out of my chest." He almost shouted.
"Stop being dramatic, Dylan." I smiled, pinching his cheeks.
"Drama-" he mumbled, but I covered his mouth.
"Sssh... the bus is here." I said, patting his shoulder and dragging him inside the bus.
He just rolled his eyes, grumbling. I giggled at his behavior.
It has always been like this with him.
He gets teased and smacked by me all the time and he never gets annoyed at me.
He always takes care of me and treats me so well.
It makes people mistake us for a couple and we don't even try correcting them.
It's good to leave people in suspense.
I decided to sit at the back row with Dylan.
It was a five-seater and three other people were there, so we sat in the middle.
A middle-aged guy and woman were sitting near the window on my right side while on the left side an old man was sitting near the window.
I was chatting and annoying Dylan throughout the whole ride. I looked at the middle-aged guy and the woman and noticed something was off about them. They were just giving me wrong vibes and I felt something fishy.
I looked at the woman and noticed she was uncomfortable. I used my eyes to ask her if anything was wrong.
She asked me to look under the seat. I pretended that my phone fell down and bent to pick it up when I noticed the guy was taking pictures of her private part.
That's disgusting. Pervert!
I snatched the phone from his hands and stood up. He looked shocked at my actions.
"You, pervert! How can you take pictures of a girl's private part?" I shouted, trying to draw the attention of people in the bus.
Everyone started giving him disgusted looks and he looked afraid.
He brought out a knife from his pocket and quickly grabbed the woman, holding her as hostage.
"If you try calling the police, I will kill her." he shouted, moving the knife closer to the woman's neck. She was afraid, tears streaming down her eyes.
Everyone was also afraid and terrified of the situation.
Including me. But I tried to keep a straight face.
I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "So not only are you a pervert, you're a killer too. You belong in a psychiatric hospital."
I mocked, trying my best to sound strong, but my voice cracked.
He moved the knife closer to the woman's neck dragging her forward to the door.
"Open this door or I will s***h her neck." He commanded the bus driver.
The driver quickly pulled over and opened the door. He quickly got out, pushed the woman to the side and started running away.
I quickly got out of the bus and chased after him. I can't let a pervert go scot free.
I heard Dylan calling after me but I chose to ignore him. I felt his footsteps behind me.
I finally caught up to the guy.
My heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears.
What the heck was I even doing?
I kicked his back, especially his spine area, causing him to fall face-down and groan in pain.
I didn't even plan the move. I just did it on instinct.
I swung my hand at the side of his neck on pure instinct.
To my shock, his body went limp and he collapsed
I'd always thought those moves happened in movies.
Seeing him hit the ground made my stomach twist – not from triumph, just disbelief.
Dylan ran up to me and looked at the guy on the ground and smiled.
"That was pretty cool, Laurey. I'm proud I taught you well." He said, patting my shoulder.
I snickered. "Keep deceiving yourself, Dylan."
He shot me a death glare. I smiled, pinching his cheeks.
The woman from earlier walked up to us smiling. "Thank you so much, young miss. I really appreciate it."
"It's no problem, ma. Are you hurt?" I asked, inspecting her body. I noticed a few bruises on her neck, and some on her hands and legs from when he probably pushed her on the ground.
"A little. But I'll be fine." she said, smiling.
"Please take care of yourself, ma."
"I will. Thank you so much, once again. You'll make a really great wife." She said, shaking my hand with both of her arms.
I blushed deeply, feeling happy that I did something helpful for someone.
"Oh! Thank you, ma." She smiled, nodding her head.
I heard the police siren and turned to see a police car packed. Two policemen came out and approached us.
They pointed to the man on the ground. "Is that the s****l harasser?"
"Yes, that's him." Dylan replied.
"Is he dead?" one of the officers asked, handcuffing him.
"Nah... I knocked him out. He tried to get away." I said, rubbing my neck awkwardly.
"Nice job, kiddo. We'll take it from here." They carried him and put him in their car.
They also brought an ambulance and offered to drop her off at a hospital to treat her bruises.
Once the police car left, that's when I realized my hands were shaking; my heart was racing, a mix of relief, adrenaline and disbelief washing over me all at once.
I tried to steady my breathing and that's when I felt Dylan's arms around my shoulder. I guessed he noticed that I was uncomfortable. I smiled, knowing I wasn't alone.
I looked up at Dylan and nudged his shoulder. "Did you hear that? I'll make a good wife."
He smiled, patting my hair. "I already knew that a long time ago." I rested my head against his chest as we walked to school.
"Who called the police, anyway?" I asked, curiosity bubbling.
He smirked. "It was me, of course."
I laughed, ruffling his hair.
