"What are you all doing here?" Emma asked in surprise as she approached the entrance, where the Joseph and Barton families were gathered. The commotion had drawn her over, and she looked at them in bewilderment.
Seeing Emma and her family, the expressions of those from the Joseph and Barton families turned grim.
"Emma, are you and your family here for the banquet too?" Edison stepped forward at that moment, asking sarcastically.
"Certainly, Edison, what's the matter with your leg? Did you upset someone and end up getting it broken?" Emma glanced at Edison's leg, feeling perplexed since Vincent hadn't shared what had happened at the hospital with her.
Edison felt embarrassed and shut his mouth, not answering.
"Who invited you? If you get turned away, you'll embarrass the Barton family."
Hunter barked, his face dark with anger.
"Exactly, Franklin," Clement chimed in, his expression equally sour. "You disgrace, do you think you're worthy of attending Mr. Field's banquet? Are you trying to tarnish our family’s reputation?"
"Dad, we weren't—" Franklin tried to explain.
Una, ignoring the tension, exclaimed, "Wow, so this is where Mr. Field's banquet is held? So many luxury cars and notable figures! This is truly high-end." She took the gold invitation from Emma's hand. "Of course, an invitation like this is fitting for such an event."
Franklin, unable to stay silent, said, "Please, stop talking. Don’t provoke the others in the family."
Una glared at him. "Shut up. You have no right to speak here."
Franklin promptly hushed up, his perpetual fear of his wife guiding his actions.
Nathan interjected, "A gold invitation? Do you even know what that means? There are fewer than five people in the entire city who have a gold invitation from Mr. Field."
Emma responded, "Didn't you all see it the other night? Mr. Field personally gave this gold invitation to Vincent. Why do you insist it's fake?"
Clement laughed loudly. "That was obviously someone Vincent hired to pretend to be Mr. Field. Can't you see that? It seems the Joseph family was right to kick you out years ago."
"It's fake, definitely fake!"
"Vincent is a useless nobody. Mr. Field doesn't even know his name. How could he have a gold invitation?"
"Bringing that forged invitation here is simply asking for embarrassment!"
The members of the Joseph and Barton families laughed derisively at Emma and her family.
“What’s going on here?” A surprised voice came from behind. A middle-aged man stepped out of a Porsche and looked around.
“Dad!” Nathan called out, rushing over.
The man was Warner, Nathan’s father and the head of the Marion family.
“Son, what are you doing standing here? Why aren’t you inside?” Warner asked, puzzled.
Nathan was frustrated and said, “Dad, we’ve been blacklisted and can’t go in.”
“What?” Warner frowned.
“Mr. Nathan Marion, you must stand up for us and teach these people some manners!” Hunter and the others approached, visibly upset.
Warner glanced at Hunter, surprised. “Mr. Barton, have you been banned too?”
The Barton family members all looked resentful.
Warner laughed. “No worries. I’ll get you in.”
Hearing this, the Barton family members were immensely grateful.
Hunter and Clement regained their confidence, believing that with the head of the Marion family here, they would surely get into the banquet.
“Hold it. Show your invitation,” a guard said, stopping Warner for a routine check.
Warner smiled and handed over his invitation.
“Sorry, you’re on the blacklist. No entry,” the guard said, expressionless, after glancing at the invitation.
Warner’s face froze. “You must be mistaken. How could I be blacklisted?” he asked, frowning.
“No mistake. Please step aside and don’t block the entrance,” the guard replied coldly.
Warner was about to lose his temper, but knowing the guard worked for Stanley Field, he had to hold back his anger and reluctantly stepped aside.
“Dad, you’re blacklisted too?” Nathan asked, approaching his father.
“You i***t! Who have you offended recently?” Warner slapped Nathan across the face. “The entire Marion family has been blacklisted by Mr. Field.”
As the head of the Marion family, Warner was worldly and quickly realized that someone in his family must have offended a powerful figure who was close with Stanley Field, possibly even himself. He had a sinking feeling that the Marion family’s good fortune in M City was coming to an end.
Una, seeing the Joseph family, the Barton family, and the Marion family all blocked outside, looked at Emma with concern. "Emma, do you think we'll get stopped if we try to go in?"
"Vincent said this invitation is real! So, we won't get stopped," Emma replied nervously, clutching the gold invitation.
Una sighed softly. "At this point, we can only try our luck."
With a fierce look, Una emphasized, "If Vincent tries to deceive me, I won't let him get away with it!"
"Hello, please show your invitation," the guard at the entrance said.
Emma took a deep breath and handed over the gold invitation. Meanwhile, Una and Franklin looked tense. Una was afraid the invitation might be fake, and they would be kicked out later.
The Barton family and the Joseph family members, on the other hand, seemed eager. They would be delighted to see Emma rejected by the guard. They didn't believe the gold invitation was genuine.
However, when the guard saw Emma holding the gold invitation, his expression changed dramatically.
"Are you Miss Emma Joseph?" the guard asked.
Emma nodded. "Yes, I am!"
Upon hearing this, dozens of guards at the entrance immediately formed a formation and bowed deeply.
"We welcome Miss Joseph!" they chorused in unison.
"Mr. Field specifically instructed that you are our most honored guest tonight!" the lead guard explained.
‘Emma being Stanley Field's most honored guest at this banquet?’ This shocked the members of the Joseph family and the Barton family.
