Chapter 17“Keep those eyes closed.” Mommy giggled in Isabella’s ear before placing gentle hands over her face, like she didn’t believe she could keep from peeking. Probably a good idea. The little girl was too excited not to. She was blind to the world, letting Mommy push her in the right direction. Trusting her to guide her through the dark.
Today was her birthday. Her first big girl birthday. She was going to be seven years old, and Mommy said it was time to become a young lady. Isabella didn’t know how a young lady was supposed to act, but if it made Mommy happy, she would figure it out. When Mommy was happy, Isabella’s world was so much better.
“What is it?” Rufus bumped against her legs, tickling the birthday girl’s toes.
“It’s a surprise. You’ll see!”
