Chapter 19Isabella half limped, half ran south for a half an hour, listening for any sound of approach. By some miracle nothing seemed to be following her, so she kept on her trek, heaving in air. Exhaustion was closing in. Her body hadn’t yet had the chance to fully heal from so much smoke inhalation, making simply breathing a chore. The edge of the Plexiglas dome came into sight. This was the first time she had gone in any one direction long enough to find where it sank into the earth. She walked up to it, and each step she took ushered more and more contempt into her chest, weighing her down like an anchor. Dropping to her knees in front of the glass, she pressed a flattened hand against it. The freeze from the blizzard just barely seeped in, making the structure icy to the touch. A
