Lizzy heard Aaron let out a loud breath. With her head still in her hands he said, “I’’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. Let’s just finish our dinner. Then maybe we can go to a movie. I almost definitely won’t put my foot in my mouth at the theater.”
Lizzy lifted her head to look at him. She took in the sadness in his eyes and the tension of his jaw. Lizzy said, “It’s okay-“
He cut her off with, “No, it’s not. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I mean I know you’re unhappy but you clearly don’t want to talk about it. I’m going to stop pushing you to tell me what’s going on. You obviously need space to think and time to figure everything out. We have one more month of our experiment and I’m going to respect whatever comes out of it.”
