Episode 9

Collin

A loud knock from the door awaken me and it's mom. It sounds different this time. I feel like there's something happened or happening.

"Wait, mom." I said while stretching my body.

"Come on! Open the door, Collin! It's emergency." said mom while still knocking the door.

Wait, what? What's happening.

After I open the door my mom grab my hand and it looks like there's something wrong with her.

"Your Aunt Eva. Samuel killed her. And they said he gets the heart of his mother and he eated it." said mom while she's in panic mode.

I fastly go downstairs and I was shock when I saw people in the road walking with blood in their body.

"Don't open that f*****g door." my brother shouted. "They will kill us. Once you open it, there's no way to escape. We will be like them." my brother added.

"Your friends, all of your friends killed and eat their family just like what evils do." said mom while she looks at me badly. "And I will not surprised if you do the same thing."

"No, mom. I will not do anything to hurt you." I inhaled as after looking at her.

I'm looking at her and show her I will not cause any harm but she gets a knife at her left side and hold it and want to stab me but she's now lying at the floor.

Someone pushed her.

And that was Mattheo at the side of my eyes but I run fastly to mom then he slowly open her eyes.

"Let's go, Collin. We have to go." Mattheo grab my arms and run away from mom.

"You hurt her. I hate you! Let go of me Matt. Let go of meee!" I said while I shouted at him.

"No I won't. I need to save you from her and keep you away from here. You might get infected too when she kill you, he will bite you and get your heart." said Mattheo.

I heard his deep sigh. I'm speechless. I don't understand what's happening.

"She maybe infect by Samuel's family." he slowly said while looking around.

We're in a dark room. It has only small space and can only accomodate two to three people.

"All of our friends are already infected. They start the spreading. I'm scared because sooner or later, we might be infected too." said Mattheo with a very low voice.

"We could do nothing but to wait what would happens next." he added.

And I find myself crying silently. And all I can do is to wipe my tears.

"Hey! stop." said Mattheo while looking at me. "It's not helping."

I was in a mental block since earlier. My mind is not working.

"Maybe we can go outside at evening. I hope lights off helped us to survive this day." said Mattheo.

He gave me a bottled water and a biscuit. "I have a few drinks, a biscuits, powerbanks, charger, a first aid kit and some small stuff like shirts. And this, to protect us when they attacked us surprisingly." Mattheo added.

"Thankyou." Yeah! At this moment, all I can say is thankyou. No other words.

Lord help us. Help us survive this epidemic.

I am looking at him when a question suddenly popup in my mind.

"Why you know that there's a spreading outbreak?" I said while looking at him.

"Huh?" his tone was calm.

I get the rattan at my side and hold it then put the edge of it in his face.

"Are you infected too? Sooner or later you will kill me then, huh?! Just tell me the f*****g truth Mattheo!"I shouted.

He suddenly go close to me and cover my mouth.

"Do you think I can rescue you if I am infected too?" he said while he's raising an eyebrow.

"I don't know. I don't believe you." I pushed him away. "Don't touch me. Just stay there and don't you dare come near me." I added.

"Come on! You have to trust me. Coz all we have right now is ourselves, and this bag." he said and then point his fingers to his bag.

"You shhoou . . ." He pointed his finger to my lips reason for me to stop talking.

"Ssssssssshhhhhhhhhh!" we need to be safe so be quiet." he said.

We are so quiet. But I heard the monstrous voice coming from outside.

I'm so scared.

"How long will we wait, Mattheo? Do you really think we will survive this?" I said while looking at him.

He looks at me and hold my hand before he speak.

"I'm not sure, Collin! But we will! We will try to survive this."

"But how about my family? And to yours? What will happen to them? If we can't survive this, I know they experience the same way. This is the ending." I said while my eyes are started to cry again.

"I know you love your family so much, Collin. But you need to be safe first." he said while trying to make me calm.

"If you can help me to be safe, then why you can't do that to my family, Mattheo? I only have mom and my brother! I can't lose them, Please, please, please save them, Matt! I'm begging you please, save them."

I heard his deep sigh. I feel the heaviness in his sigh. I know he is worried too, but just like me, I know he also want that his family will be safe.

"Your family, where is your assurance that they're safe at this moment? Did you even know if they are still alive?" I asked.

"I told them to not go out and try their best to hide. In fact, they don't allow me to go but I can't. I want to check on you even if it's not safe outside. I still follow myself." He said while looking at me.

"B U T, Why? Why did you do that?" I said while I know my mind is having a doubt with him.

With his deep sigh, I know he's preparing for a long explanation.

"I follow what you're brother said yesterday." he said.

I'm just looking at him at if he's reporting for what happened to his day.

"I secretly go to our friends house. I went first at Gabbielle, then next is Samuel, and the rest of the squad. They are showing the same behavior. And you know what happened next? I saw that they kill their own family just like that. I was shock. I don't know what to do. My body was stock in that moment. And you know what's worst? I saw how they slowly get the hearts of their victim." he explained.

Deep sigh.

"How about us? We are all from that hidden place but, why we're not like them? Why we're still think normal?" I asked while looking at him.

"I don't know." he answered then he leaves a deep sigh.

Three sighs. I heard a three sighs before he spoke again.

"Do you see the old man that I see in that place?" he asked.

"Old man? But I didn't see anything, Matt! Are you making a story?" I asked while raising my eyebrow to him.

"Why would I? Did you remember the one who hit us at our back? Caused us to collapsed? That was him!" he said while explaining confidently.

I'm looking at him and raising my eyebrow.

"I can't forget his face. And I still remember what he said to me!" he added.

"What?"

"He warned me. He said that it's not a safe place. He is the one who help me bring you to the car. He also told me about the history of that place. How it became like that! He told me almost everything about that place." he explained.

"But I did see anyone except our friends!" I said.

"He told me not to tell you about him. I'm trying to wake you up that time but your body don't want to. So I decided to carry you that time." he said.

"Huh! Oh, My God! So embarrassing! Why did you do that!" As I look at him, it feels like he will start teasing me.

"Don't mind that! What we need to think now is how will we survive this, and how we will fight against it."

After what he said, we choose to be silent. Not because we don't want to talk but because we want to think what we will do to survive and help the world.
