I stared at the phone screen, my hands shaking. The video kept replaying in my mind even after I closed it.
It was Aria. My Aria. Sleeping with another man.
My chest felt tight, like someone was squeezing my heart with both hands. How could she do this to me? She said she loved me. She looked into my eyes every day and promised she was mine. Only mine.
But she lied.
I shouted, “How could you do this to me?” My vision blurred, unsure if it was from anger or tears, maybe both.
“They are lying!” Aria screamed back. Her voice was high and desperate. “Don’t believe them, honey. Please. Celeste and her friend hate me. They want to destroy us. Can’t you see? They made this video to break us apart.”
Her words sounded rehearsed and fake. I could hear the lie in every syllable.
