You'd think being an assassin would be full of wild things happening, especially if you started out human, but were modified genetically by the government to help keep Others in check, you know, weres, vampires, demons, all that fun stuff that goes bump in the night, and you'd be right to a degree, if only my handler hadn't stuck me with the handle of Sunshine.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Katrina, and I'm an assassin. I get to handle your run of the mill cases dealing with corrupted billionaires, as well as handling various cases with Others that go wild, or at least wilder than normal. I thought that cases would be the only things I'd be handling, little did I know that there would be people trying to handle me as well.

If you've come this far, you may as well see what Karma has in store for me aside from what I've already said, and if you don't read further, no skin off my nose.

Chapter One
***Katrina's POV***     Had I known when I agreed to becoming an assassin for a group that was working on alliances and cooperation between others that I would be sitting for over an hour at a bar in a dress that screams 'come f**k me' and flicking off bar flies I may have made some different choices in my life.     Ten years ago, I'd gone in for an interview at United Corp, a little confused as I had received the request for an interview straight out of college for a global corporation that I hadn't even applied for.  United Corp had been around for years, and had their fingers in almost every market that I could think of, which hadn't made sense to me at the time, now though it was all to clear to me.     I was born a mostly normal human, I say mostly because I had natural psychic gifts, though not as strong at that time as the others, such as vampires, shifters, witches and more, things I thought were either fantasy or religions before I was trained.  Needless to say, my gifts were part of what had put me on the radar for being recruited, the rest of it was that I learned fast and did well in most of my college courses, and my training with different martial arts that my parents had forced on me as a way to manage my anger issues.  My actual interview had actually consisted of me subduing a wolf shifter without knowing it, which is what got me into assassin work instead of any of the other fields, as a human with gifts, I'd already had a spot open for me, they were just debating where prior to that.     After that came a time I don't like to think of too much, between training and the changes that my body was put through, not all of which were comfortable, it led me to being one of the top assassins in United Corp.  I'd been modified to be stronger, faster, and more resilient than  a normal human, my gifts had gotten stronger and I'd been trained in the use of them more, after all, you can't expect a normal human to be able to help police others and even kill them when required when others usually had the advantage.     Sunshine, my dark princess, we have some problems.  My handler Matthew had opened a telepathic channel between the two of us, and I almost snorted in my drink at the understatement of the century there. While I never understood why he chose Sunshine as my name when I was working, dark princess I understood, at 5' 9" with long black hair and gray eyes, I was slender with curves in the right places, enough that I'd never heard a complaint from any man.     Considering my target was supposed to be here an hour or so ago, I never would have guessed.  I sent a mental projection of an eye roll earning a chuckle from Matthew.   My target tonight was a low level warlock named Gabriel, a witch gone bad in other words, that was trafficking women and drugs on the down low to support his public businesses, to the human world he was just a struggling midlevel business man, but to those of us who knew about others, he was scum.  I was called in as some of his rejected victims had been found used and beaten, explaining how he liked to sample the goods before deciding if they were high enough quality to be sold to others in the black market.  My goal tonight had been to get picked up, to infiltrate, gather info to help find information on his other business, and then to eliminate the target.  Since I had a particular hatred towards low life like him, I'd been more than happy to take on this mission at first.     Well, seems that some people that aren't part of Unity yet got a bit impatient and decided that they were going to take matters into their own hands.     How many and what are they doing? I glanced around the bar as I started feeling three separate flavors of power closing in on the bar where I was waiting.  Since this was mostly considered to be a human bar, the feeling of others energy was making me pause.     Well, Nicholas from one of the vampire clans we've been trying to woo to us has decided to go  on the offensive by going after Gabriel's public businesses, which is what is causing the delay there, Gabriel is still at his office at this moment with his board members trying to work out a plan and his board is not aware of what Gabriel did to anger Nicholas to make this move.     Given that his board is mostly humans that makes sense, I doubt they know of his other activities. You said some though, so I would take it he isn't the only problem, given that I can feel three others closing in on this bar.  I could almost feel the look that Matthew had with that comment, usually when I interrupted him, he would go into full fledged adopted father mode with a look that made even me pause.  Sorry, please continue.     Thanks for letting me finish briefing you.  We have two shifters that are moving in trying to handle him their way, we are not sure of the reasons yet, but they would be Alexander of Silver Claw and Nathanial of Midnight Stalkers.  Both clans of shifters are powerful, but tend to prefer to be above working with anyone else.  Finally we have a solitary witch, Dominick, he may or may not be involved, all intel we have on him shows he has no reason to be involved, as he is not a part of any coven, and no signs that he has turned from witch to warlock, he may or may not be involved but with him heading the same way, seemed worth watching.  When Matthew mentioned the name Dominick, I had a quick flashback to a young boy with dark red hair and hazel eyes, offering to do a magic trick to cheer me up after I'd fallen and gotten hurt as a child.  He'd been my summer friend, gone before the snow hit, but that boy was named Dom, or so he told me.     So I have three powerful others heading to a human bar where my target won't be due to someone else causing problems.  Should I be staying here waiting to see if the target does show, or should I be leaving before the three stooges show up and start anything?     Neither.  Matthew had switched back to handler mode. You are going to stay there and keep any eye on the three and keep the peace.     I don't keep the peace, I break things and kill things, besides you and I both know that they are going to think I am human and beneath them, they are more likely to ignore me.     Orders are orders Sunshine, and those are yours.  And here we go back to dad tone.     Yes sir.  I took a sip of my drink and kept my eyes roaming across the bar, when the first one came in.  I was betting that he was one of the shifters, and from his build and the way he walked, I'd stake my reputation he was a wolf, they tended to prowl or bounce when they walked, feline shifters had more grace, while bears were more likely to amble along.     Watching him, if I hadn't been fully educated on the reality of shifters, I may have tried to hit on him for some fun on a normal night, but contrary to the belief of most fantasy writers, others would pick their mates from a group that they feel a connection with, not a one specific soul mate thing, but every one of them would have more than one person that they would have a potential connection with, and they would pick each other from those groups to partner with.  Basically a cosmic version of a specialized dating site or potential match maker.  Normal humans almost never made the cut, and most others wouldn't look at someone who didn't make the cut.     He had a larger build, with messy brown hair, and a nice tan, telling me he was outside a lot.  He paused at the door, sniffing for a second as if something was confusing him, scanning the room, though I was confident in my corner that he wouldn't notice me yet, there was a reason I'd picked it after all.  I continued to watch him as he walked to one end of the bar and talked to the bartender, occasionally repeating the sniff and looking around.       First one is here, brown hair, moves like a wolf, keeps sniffing like he is looking for something or some scent is bothering him.     That would be Alexander, wolf shifter, alpha, and single, so either one of his potential mates is somewhere nearby or he is looking for a specific scent.  Nathanial, panther shifter and leader of his kind in this area should be entering shortly, if it is a potential mate, he may get more aggressive.  Matthew confirms what I had already suspected.     As the door to the bar opened again, I saw contestant number two entering, tall and lean with black hair and golden skin, this one moved with lethal grace, and as he entered, he scented the air as well, making me groan at the what could cause some major issues.   I really hoped that Murphy was off torturing someone else at this moment, and I wouldn't have to deal with two shifters with potential mates trying to prove who had the bigger d**k, but when I felt both energies flare and the two giving each other dark looks, I knew my hopes were in vain.  If something can go wrong, it will go wrong, just when you need it NOT to go wrong.  I better get a bonus for this s**t.     Nathanial went to the opposite end of the bar as Alexander, both males still trying to look around while keeping an eye on each other, made me almost wish I had some popcorn.  Keeping an eye on them as much as I could from my corner, I took a drink waiting on the third and final stooge, thankfully I didn't have to wait long.     The third energy approached the door, and I saw the other two tense as well, in walked the third man, dark red hair, and a build somewhere between that of the other two, he paused, but unlike the other two, he stared straight towards the corner I was in, causing me to re-enforce all my shields while throwing out a subtle mental coercion to just brush off the human in the corner.  I watched him shake himself slightly, and head further in, but in focusing on him, I hadn't watched the other two close enough, and unfortunately, with the current situation the two shifters were already wound up that they weren't paying attention to the difference between witches and warlocks and as the men all locked eyes with each other, tensions were building close to an exploding point.     Houston we have a problem.  The three stooges look like they might start a fight here in a moment and level this bar.     Then get your cute little ass up there and stop it Sunshine, work what you're mama gave you and keep the peace, try not to fry anyone if you can avoid it, these are potential allies.   I grimaced at the reminder, when I touched people sometimes, I had a unique ability to almost make it feel like they were being shocked, or even hit by lightening if I pushed it hard enough, and as fun as it would be to act like a human taser and shock all three into submission, I couldn't take it that far this time unless it was a last resort.     Getting up from the chair, I adjusted my dress a little, I knew it was gonna ride back up once I started walking in these stilettos, but given how it hugged every curve and highlighted all my assets, I was gonna have to work this for all I could to try and get these three to brake their stare downs.   I shook back my hair that hung in loose curls almost down to my ass, making it sway softly behind me as I sauntered towards the bar, right between all three men, where none of them could avoid seeing me.  I leaned over the bar a little while holding my empty glass, knowing that the pose made my ass stick out and the dress rode dangerously close to showing them all what I was wearing under it, but it worked as I felt all three focus on me.     I felt the red head, Dominick, getting closer to me, and heard low rumbling growls from both sides of the bar, both of which also were moving closer.  Trying to act like I couldn't sense anything going on, I ordered another drink, all while tracking the three males slowly surrounding me.     Hey, ah, Matthew, define not frying them.     That's something that shouldn't need a definition Sunshine.     Right and I shouldn't be playing mediator either.  I felt a hand touch my arm, pulling me around and went over my options, to shock, act like a normie, or do something else, little did I know I wouldn't have much of a choice in how things would play out.     "Katrina is that -" I found myself staring into hazel eyes for one split second before two growls from different sides erupted followed by those eyes disappearing under two other males.     And that was how the fight started, for once, it wasn't my fault but I was pretty sure my bosses weren't going to see it that way.
