Ellie's POV:
I can't wait for Hunter to wake up. It had been too long. I have so many things to tell him. When he is awake, I won't even say a word. That is how I am. I don't think I'll ever tell him the truth. I can say this was in the past. The more time I spent with him, the more I realized that being friends was enough for me. I don't want this to change. We can talk about this another time. People in school keep asking about him. I won't say anything. I don't need to explain what happened. That will only make it worse for me. Nothing is going on between Hunter and me, but people quickly create rumors. Molly will be the first one. It's enough that she already hates me. I want to graduate from high school without drama and problems. Honestly, I don't know why I think about this so much. The most important thing is for him to wake up. Mom keeps telling me to go home. I don't want to leave him alone. Nothing will happen, but I want to be here. Being at home makes me feel even worse. I never told anyone that his doctor was my dad. I might have pleased him to take Hunter as his patient. Otherwise, I would've bugged Doctor Chang. Dad will never do this to his co-worker. Also, he owns me. Let's say that I did something for him one day. I hope that Hunter will be able to go home soon.
I want to stay in the hospital for the night, but my mom will never let me. They take me home with them. It's not like I mind, but I wanted to stay there. They are right about one thing. No matter how long I stay there, nothing will change. I can't help him. All I can do is sit and be patient. Mom and I talked a lot. I know she wants the truth. The other thing is that I can't lie to her. I love her too much to let this happen. She has done a lot for me. Dad, as well.
Currently, I'm in school. Dad texted me that Hunter was awake. I wanted to see him, but he told me to stay in school. I guess I have to wait. I'm in History class. My mind is busy with something else. I hid my phone and texted him. You have no idea how good it feels to hear back from him. When the class ended, I went to my locker. I can't hide the smile when I see his reply. Sadly, that quickly got ruined. Molly was here. She hasn't talked with me in a while.
- Can I help you?
- Who are you texting?
- No one.
- Lies! If you think you won, you are fooling yourself.
- I won what?
- I thought Hunter was smarter, but no. You brainwashed him.
- Yeah, right.
- You know where he is.
- Even if I did, I wouldn't have told you.
- Where is Hunter?
- He is sick.
- Where is he?
- Far away from you. I will never tell you anything about him.
- You know I can find him.
- You did enough. Leave him alone. He doesn't need you.
- He needs me more than he needs you.
- How exactly?
- I can give him something that you never will.
- What is that thing? Your craziness?
- Watch your mouth.
- Molly, I told you to leave her alone. She is below our social level. - Jackson said
- She knows where Hunter is.
- Really? Why do you care so much? I thought we ditched him.
- Yes, but I want her away from him.
- I thought you didn't care what I do. - I said
- I don't.
- Your actions tell me the opposite. I won't tell you anything about him. After school, I'm going home. If you follow me, I'll call the police to come and arrest you for stalking.
- You can't do that.
- Oh, I can. I have a family friend working in the police. He owes me a favor anyway.
- This war is not over. Hunter is not yours. Ok?
- I never said he was.
- You will pay me for what you did.
- Why don't you stop? The whole school is laughing at you right now. Who knew that you could lose control that easily?
- I'm not losing control. You are!
- Yes, you proved my point. If you excuse me, I'll go to class. I don't have time to waste.
- I'll find him before you.
- Do it. My family friend is one call away.
- What?
- Bye, Molly. Have a nice day. I hope I'll never see you again. You won't find him. - I said and left
I will never tell her what happened to him. The only thing she will do is bug him. I won't permit it. On the lunch break, I was alone. I didn't want to be with anyone. I couldn't wait for the last class. When I heard the last bell, I rushed to the hospital. I texted my mom, and she said she would wait for me. I was sure he would survive. There is a reason why I stayed with him day and night. Well, it's better if he doesn't know about this. I don't want him to think that something is going on.
- I came as fast as I could. - I said
- I can see you have been running. - my mom said
- Where is he?
- Come here. Your dad is inside.
- You didn't tell him, did you?
- Tell him what? That we are your parents or that you refused to leave?
- Both.
- Don't worry. He doesn't know anything yet.
- Thanks.
- You have to come for a checkup. If everything is good, you can remove the cast after a month. - my dad said
- So, I'll spend the holidays in a cast.
- Yes. Oh, hey, girls. Come in.
- Ellie?
- Hey.
- I'll come to check on you later. - my dad said, and they left
- How are you?
- I have been worse. - he said, chuckling
- I'm serious.
- My leg hurts a little bit.
- What about your head?
- I feel some stitches.
- Because you have them. I think they will be removed soon.
- I hope so. I don't want to go to school with that.
- The doctor won't let you go to school with this leg.
- Great.
- Yes.
- Ellie, are you ok? What happened?
- Nothing.
- You can tell me. I won't tell anyone.
- I have missed you.
- You did?
I didn't want to say it this way, but it was true. I wanted him to wake up, but I was doubting it. The good news is that he is awake. I planned to tell him everything, but nothing came out of my mouth. For that, I received a hug. You have no idea how much I wanted one. It feels so good. No one needs to know that he is here. If they cared enough, they would've searched for him. I should go home and study, but I don't want to leave him alone. I can always do my work here.
- To understand that you haven't told anyone what happened to me.
- No, I didn't. People don't deserve to know.
- True, but I will go back to school. Maybe not this week, but I will.
- So? No one cares about you. Why should I tell them?
- You are right. Again. - he said and laughed
- It's not funny.
- Why are you in such a mood? Let's do your homework.
- You can't help me.
- But I can make dumb guesses that will make you laugh.
- That is more likely to happen.
- See? I'm good at something.
- Yes, you are.
- Can you smile? For me.
- I'm sorry. I have too many things in my head.
- It's not the end of the world. I survived.
- Barely.
- What?
- Nothing.
- Ellie, what happened? I know you were there. Everything else is a blank spot in my memory.
- You got hit by a car. Later, an ambulance came to pick you up.
- And?
- And what? They had to operate on your leg because it was broken.
- Aren't you missing something?
- Something like what?
- Maybe the fact that you didn't leave the hospital at all.
- What? That is not true.
- I might be in a coma, but I'm not deaf.
- You heard me. For real?
- Yes, I did. I wanted to wake up because of you.
- Me?
- You deserve it more than anyone else.
- Thank you. I wanted to see you for days.
In the end, I stayed with him for dinner. He didn't help me with my homework at all. Well, it was fun to have him around. I went to get us dinner from the nearest restaurant. Dad said he could eat everything. Hunter doesn't have any stomach issues. I got us pizza and fries. We already ate that once. I know he will like it. Also, I got us water. No other drinks today for him. When I came back, my parents were there. I should tell him about that, but I won't do it now.
- I wish I had such good friends who bring me food. - my dad said
- You should've thought about this. - Hunter said
- Ok. I'll remember it.
- The visit ended. Let's leave him to eat. - my mom said
- But.
- Let's go.
- Fine. I'll see you tomorrow.
- I like him. He is a good doctor.
- I hope you like the food as well.
- We have already eaten this before. I will like it for sure.
- Do you know when you can go home?
- Not this week. I will stay at home for another week as well.
- You have to rest.
- But I have to walk. I can't lay in bed all day.
- I can help you with that.
- What do you mean?
- I'll help you walk around the house. What do you say?
- You don't have to do that. I'll deal with it on my own.
- But I'm your friend. I can't study all day.
- Do whatever you want.
- Thanks.
- Ellie.
- Yes?
- Thank you for being here. No one else would've done that.
- Well, I'm not like the rest.
- True. You are much more than that.
- I'm glad you think this way.
- Why wouldn't I? I never lied about anything I said to you.
- Neither did I.
- When I get out of here, we can go out. It'll be challenging, but I'll get used to it.
- Why don't we do it when you remove the cast?
- That is after a whole month.
- I'll come to visit you. You won't be alone.
- You don't have to waste your time with me.
- What if I want to do it?
- Really? You will.
- Why not? I don't have other friends. I better take care of the only one I have.
- I will never forget that. You, too.
- I won't deny your message when you go to university.
I wanted to stay with him for the night, but he kicked me off. My parents were already in bed. In that case, I'll see him tomorrow. Dad will tell me when Hunter can go home. I'm sure it will be soon. He is getting better. I can see that. Finally, a miracle happened. I'm so happy that he is well. I don't want such things to happen ever again. It wasn't his fault, but I got worried. I won't tell him the real reason behind this. Also, after high school, I probably won't see him again. There is no point in starting something that will end too soon. I hope that he will be able to go home next week.
