Chapter 17

Evan I immediately made my way back to the pack territory. Making my way to my office, avoiding questions from everyone. One person blocked my way, Victoria, my younger sister. “Hello E.” She greeted me with her arms crossed, indicating that she was upset about something. “V, now is not the time. I have to do something that needs my upmost attention.” “Well, what’s f*****g new? You haven’t spoken much with me for the past month, and I was beginning to get concerned.” “I am busy with work…” “You are always so nose deep with work that you forget you have family still. For once, can you spend some time with me?” My sister was much younger than I was. She was barely 21 and here I was 31. There is a gap between us, but that has never been something that has kept us from being close. I sighed, looking at her guiltily. “Look I’m sorry. I have just been trying to make sure that I remain on top of all the tasks so everything is functioning properly.” “Dad was never this occupied when he was Alpha.” “Well, dad didn’t make as many moves as I did with expanding the business and making sure that our pack would remain on top now, did he?” I said angrily with some venom to insult her. Victoria looked at me hatefully and turned around to walk away. f**k, something else I have to add to my list of duties. I mind linked Zak. That was my connection I used whenever I needed to find full details about someone. “Zak, I have a request.” “Yes Alpha, what can I do for you?” “I need you to look into someone by the name of Davina Acero. Grab whatever you can about her and send it over to me within the next hour.” “Yes Alpha.” An hour later, I had a file on Davina. It shows that she was a patient at a psychiatric hospital 10 years ago. She was then admitted to an outpatient facility and then moved to a group home. She graduated from a GED program and then moved to a Bachelor of Science program from which she graduated not that long ago. It shows her residence address and her previous employment, which shows the diner that Kevin was also working at and now the TEC college. Truthfully, the only thing that was sticking out to me like a red flag was, there was no previous history before the psychiatric hospital. It’s like she was someone that just appeared out of thin air. Usually I can get family connections, previous addresses, or even numbers, but there is literally nothing that comes up. I was not ready to have this conversation, but it seemed like I did not have much of a choice at that point. “Kevin, are you here on packed grounds?” “Yeah, I’m working out at the moment.” “When you have a chance, come see me in my office.” “I was just finishing up. I’ll head that way now.” 10 minutes later, there was a knock on the door, but I could tell by the smell it was Kevin. I mind linked him that he was good to come in. He slumped himself down in a chair in front of my desk. “What’s up? I’m guessing it’s something important that you needed for me to come meet you”, he asked. “I wanted to ask you about someone by the name of Davina Acero. I know you worked with her at the diner.” “Yes and I know she is currently working at the college you were looking into investing in. What happened to Davina?” “Do you know her in some way?” “We are good friends. I was a protector of hers in a way when we worked at the diner. I wanted to have a relationship, but she didn’t see me the same.” I growled from jealousy. “What the f**k is your problem?” He asked, but then reality hit him, and he put the pieces together. “She’s your f*****g second chance mate, isn’t she?” I nodded, unsure of how to really feel about it. “You are not to touch her at all.” I commanded with my Alpha aura. “No need to go through with that because I have found my mate as well,” he said with a satisfied smirk. “Who?” “Itze Sandoval” “The Admissions Advisor?!” He nodded. I sighed, what was the Moon Goddess trying to plan here? “I want to know what exactly you know about Davina?” “I know that she is a bit complicated to understand, being that she is so timid and naïve. I know she once dated an asshole that left her. She never mentioned much about the situation but, I know she would rather not be open about it. She isn’t someone that speaks about her past. I care for her a lot because she is genuinely a nice person and I know there are monsters out there that take advantage of people like her.” “Is this the person you mentioned to me that didn’t have a scent some time ago?” He nodded “Well, I can see where your suspicions come from, because I can’t smell anything on her either but, I do have one thing that I can confirm. She’s a wolf.” “No, she’s not. I was never able to sense anything wolf about her and I worked with her for years.” “I know it seems ridiculous but, Titus was able to sense her wolf for a split second and then suddenly it was gone.” Kevin looked at me confused, trying to find some answer, but there was nothing that was coming about. “Has she mentioned anything before the diner? Maybe her time in the psych ward?” I asked. “She told me why she was there but, I will not disclose her business like that. I feel that is something she has to tell you on her own. Other than that, I do not have any clue about her. The one thing that I would advise you is to please have patience with her. She’s already been through enough and I know she’s going to have her guard up until she feels safe with you.” I looked at him and his face genuinely showed how much he cared for her. I owe him a huge debt, being that he could be the very reason as to why she was kept safe from harm all these years later. “Thank you for being so informative and also being a great supporter to her.” “She’s amazing and now that I know what is to lie ahead, I am now reconsidering my position of being your Beta.” “Interesting, why the sudden change?” “Because I know she will bring the best version of you and that is the Alpha I want to work with.” He said. I nodded but, the first thing we had to do was find out who exactly Davina Acero was. Davina Itze took me home and gave me the reassurance that if I ever needed something or someone to talk to, that I could always call her. I nodded and gave her a hug. I made my way to the stairs to my floor and knocked on Kayla’s door. “Hello! Melody! Your momma is here!” Kayla said and a smiling Melody ran to my arms, giving me the tightest hug. I thanked Kayla and made our way to our apartment. I made a quick dinner for Melody, had her eat, gave her a bath, and got her set in for bedtime in her room. I was in the process of packing her bag and getting my outfit together when I jumped hearing a knock on the door. I made my way to the peep hole to see Kevin outside my door. “Hey, what brings you here at this time?” I asked curiously. “Hey Vina, I wanted to speak with you about something.” “Is everything okay?” “Yeah, it’s more of me needing to tell you something.” “Kevin, if it’s about Itze, like I said, I’m completely fine with that.” “It’s not about Itze, it’s about Evan.” “Wait…How do you know about Evan?” “Because Evan is my older cousin.”
