Davina
“Are you f*****g serious?”
“Momma, no cussing!” Melody said.
“Oh babe I’m sorry. I won’t cuss again.”
“Hey little one! How’s my favorite girl in the whole world?” Kevin asked, going over to lift her into his arms.
“Can I have a hug? Tight, tight tight” He played with her, acting like they were squeezing each other so tight in a hug. He set her down and she ran to her room. We made our way to my tiny living room and sat on the sofa. He first looked at the floor and then looked back at me unsure how I was going to receive the information he was going to tell me.
“I am trying to process what you just told me, but come to think of it, you never really mentioned anything about you.”
“Because there’s nothing really to say.”
“Kevin, knowing who your cousin is, I am getting the assumption that your family comes from money. Like come on, he practically bought my job and is now investing all these changes to help the college grow. I thought it was weird of you to have the newest edition of a jeep but you were working as a line cook at a diner. It didn’t make any sense.”
He chuckled and looked at me with a shrug. “Yes, our families run a business you can call it and it has been passed down through generations. Due to circumstances, Evan was going to be the next to lead and I was supposed to be his right hand but, there were something that…happened and things changed. I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to do but, I did know I had been wanting to be low-key for some time. I told him that I was going to step down and he didn’t fight me about it. What best than to live like a normal person working in a low-income job and I met some great people.” He said to me while giving me a wink, finishing his sentence.
“Now that you know this, how do you feel?”
“Honestly, I feel like an awful friend being that I didn’t know anything about you.”
He laughed “Don’t be hard on yourself, you’re great. Even Itze loves the f**k out of you.”
That made me smile. “What do you think about Evan?” Kevin asked, which took me by surprise.
“Um…I don’t know. He’s intimidating yet gentle, if that makes sense.”
“Yeah, he may come off as a lot in the beginning and I’m not saying this because he’s family, but he’s a great guy and is always willing to do anything for the people he cares for. Just please, if it does go in that direction, give him a chance. Be open-minded and let your heart direct you towards him.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because I know you don’t ever open yourself to anyone, especially men, after what happened.”
I took a deep breath, holding back the pain and I nodded to him.
“Wait, what makes you assume anything is going to happen with Evan in the first place?”
“I just…know something and eventually you are going to discover what they are.”
Strange, it’s never been the type to confuse me with riddles. I didn’t know what he was talking about, but, I trust him. I know for sure Kevin would never put me in harm’s way.
“Vina one last question, are you sure you don’t have any memory before the accident?”
I groaned; it was that never ending question that I was constantly asked.
“Kevin, like I said, I do not remember anything from before.”
“Well? Let’s set that question aside. How about anything that feels like a flashback? Anything that comes to mind?”
Do I tell him? I trust him, but it’s strange to admit seeing a being with white eyes with a vial, seeing a wolf move in front of me, which caused me to fall. Well, I can at least mention the strange man.
“Um, when Itze and I went shopping for your date, there was a man. He mentioned that I looked like someone and asked for my name.”
Kevin
A man? I need to pick her mind more to find out who this guy was.
“Did you tell him your name?”
“Um…yes.” She answered ashamed.
“You’re not in trouble, I am just trying to fit the pieces. Did he mention his? And if you can, describe what he looked like.”
“He said his name was Tom. He was tall with black hair, grey eyes and a beard.” She closed her eyes and then had them popped open. “He grabbed my arm and when I looked down on his hand, he had some tattoo on his hand. Shaped like a mountain with a crescent moon on top.”
“That’s f*****g Thomas Hawthorn of the Mountain View Pack.” Kai said in my mind.
“Holy f**k you’re right!” I said back.
Thomas is a distant cousin of Evan and I. He was a problem straight out of the womb and had this desire to rule everything that breathed. He was dangerous and manipulative. It has also been rumored that he was the reason for his parent's disappearance. I heard through certain counsel that every part of land he touches ends in devastation. We try not to meddle in his affairs. We have a treaty that keeps the peace, unless he breaks it, there’s really nothing we can do.
“Do you know who he is?” Davina asked, breaking my thoughts.
“Uh, no I don’t have any idea.” I know I’m lying but for now, it will keep her safe.
“It’s getting late, and I know you have a long day, so I am going to head out.”
She walked me to the door, and I gave her a hug while whispering in her ear “Remember what I said and please keep you and Melody safe. Call me for anything, regardless of the time.”
She nodded and kissed my cheek. I walked down the stairs.
Coming out of the building, I noticed a truck parked down the street that I was familiar with. Who else drives an all-black truck with blackout windows, Evan. I walked my way up to his truck, which I saw he took notice and hopped out looking enraged.
“Care to explain why the f**k you’re coming out of her building with a smile on your face?”
“Says the stalker that is parked down the street spying on her.” I shot back and he then took a deep breath, realizing that I was right on my part.
“Look, nothing happened. I was trying to find out more information that could assist us with finding out who she is. And just so you know, I was trying to assist you with getting closer to her.”
“What the f**k are you talking about?” He snapped back.
“Davina is not going to run to you with open arms. You are going to have the hardest time being with her because she’s a delicate person that has suffered enough. She’s timid and frightened at almost everything. I told her you were a great guy and, if anything does lead to that to have an open mind and follow what her heart feels.”
I can tell by his expression that he was not expecting to hear that, but I knew he wasn’t going to acknowledge it. He gave me a simple nod which I took as his way as a thank you. He knows she trusts me more than anyone else and that it gave her some reassurance that he was a safe person.
“One thing I did discover, it’s not pretty.”
“What did you find?”
“Thomas has had his nose around our neck of the woods. He saw Davina and claimed that she looked like someone that he knew.”
Even though it was nighttime, I saw his eyes go from his normal green to red now. I can tell Titus was fighting with him to have control.
“That filthy brat! He would die at my hands if he were to try anything with her!” Titus roared.
“You may want to chill; we are surrounded by humans!” I mink linked him.
He took a deep breath and saw his normal green come back.
“I don’t want him knowing anything about what we are trying to do. I want to try and keep her hidden as much as possible. I will send out some scouts and try to research with my connections. You are to remain vigilant and ensure that she is to remain safe. Is that understood?” He commanded.
“Yes Alpha.” I replied with a smile on my face. Here is the Evan I remember.
