Chapter 5

1482 Words
Surprisingly, Eloise didn't dream of Jinx and Lilian having s*x outside her door, but the day she fainted, she had a weird dream. She was surrounded by beautiful tulips with different colors, her favorite flower. She looked around in confusion, unsure and lost as to where she was or what she was doing there. She couldn't see anyone at first, but then she heard a baby crying. Eloise ran around, trying to look for the source of the sound, until she finally saw a bundle of joy. She found herself smiling as she stared at the baby lying in a stroller with a beautiful smile on her face. She could tell it was a girl by her pretty pink shirt with a bear on it. "Hi, baby. Are you alone?" She asked the baby, who was playing with herself. She stepped closer, and the baby giggled. Eloise reached out her hand to hold her, but a voice stopped her. "Don't you dare touch her! Stay away from her!" When she looked up, she saw Lilian and Jinx approaching them with an angry look on their faces. When Eloise looked at the baby again, she was shocked to see the baby version of herself. "She doesn't belong to you!" Jinx yelled at her as they took the baby away from her. Eloise opened her mouth, but no words were coming out. Her arm remained stretched, reaching out to the baby that was beginning to zoom away from her with the evil couple. "N-No." She croaked and tried to run after them, but she couldn't move, and that is when she was pulled away from that dream. "No!" Eloise screamed just as she woke up and frantically opened her eyes. She was breathing heavily, and she could feel an empty feeling in her chest. Most people forget what they dreamed about when they wake up, but not her. She could remember every little thing. "What was that about?" she asked out loud when she was able to calm herself and realized that she was in the guest room. Eloise looked around and flinched when she felt a slight pinch on her hand, and she found an IV drip inserted there. She doesn't feel dizzy anymore, and strange enough, her stomach stops grumbling. She was not hungry, but she wasn't full either. She remembered feeling dizzy and falling, but what happened after that? The door opened, causing her head to snap to look at the doctor who had come. She was a little relieved when she saw Doctor Cane, a doctor she had become familiar with recently. He wasn't a bad person, but he was Jinx's friend. "You're awake. Good," Cane said, ordering the nurse with him to check her vitals. "You lost consciousness because of dehydration and stress, Eloise. I heard you haven't eaten in three days, so that explains it. I had you put on a drip to hydrate you, but you still need to eat. I don't know what happened, but you shouldn't do that to your body." He informed her, and it looked like he wanted to say something more. "Her vitals are normal, doc," the nurse announced, and Cane asked her to step out a bit so he could talk to his patient. When the nurse was gone, Cane sighed and looked at Eloise. He had no idea what happened; no, that would be a lie because everyone practically heard about what happened, but Cane was never one to just blindly believe rumors. "You need to take care of yourself better, Eloise," he started, not really scolding her but showing his concern as a doctor. "That is none of your business," Eloise said coldly, and Cane sighed again. "You're three weeks pregnant," Cane revealed. Eloise gasped sharply, her eyes widening as she stared at the doctor in shock. "W-What?" "You heard it right. The baby is healthy, so you don't need to worry about that, but it needs his mom to be healthy." Eloise didn't say anything after that; her mind was trying to process what she had just found out. She felt happy at first because she always wanted to have a baby, but then realization dawned on her. Her situation, her baby's father, and the life they would face the moment they're born. Pregnant? She was pregnant. Now, after years of waiting? Why did it have to be now? She found herself crying in happiness and sorrow. She can't be pregnant now. How would she raise them when she herself is unsure how she'll survive? And how about the Newtons? "The first few months of pregnancy are fragile, so I suggest you don't overwork or stress yourself." Cane handed her a tissue, and she accepted it. "I suggest you tell Jinx—" "No!" Eloise immediately cut him off while shaking her head. She had never felt so scared until that moment. She gripped his arm and pleaded with her eyes. "He can't know. Please don't tell him. He might hurt them." Jinx doesn't care about him, so he wouldn't care about the baby, not to mention Lilian. She will surely hurt them once she finds out. Cane hesitated while looking at Eloise. He could feel her desperation, but Jinx was his friend. They had been friends for years, so how could he hide something like this from him? He opened his mouth to speak, but the door opened, and Jinx entered. Cane gently removed Eloise's hand while Eloise hid her face to hide her tears from Jinx. "What did you find? Is she dying? God, I hope not. That would be trouble. Please tell me she was just pretending, man," Jinx told his friend, not noticing the tension resonating around the room. He looked at his friend, the woman he was starting to hate, not bothering to look at her face. Eloise gripped the sheet and shut her eyes. If Cane tells Jinx, she will do everything to escape and save themselves. She might die trying, but she could also succeed. "She's just dehydrated, and she needs rest." Eloise's eyes snapped open, and she looked at Cane with grateful eyes, but his eyes remained blank. She was surprised he did as she asked, but she would be forever in his debt if he kept her secret. Jinx snorted and glared at his wife. "Weak. But then again, you lived your whole life as a princess. Who told you to starve yourself anyway? Stupid." He continued insulting her, and Eloise only bit her lip. "I mean it, Jinx. Don't let her take on heavy tasks for some time as her body is weak. Let her gain back her strength and health." Cane told his friend seriously, not in the least happy with how he was talking to his wife, but he doesn't meddle with affairs; he has nothing to do. He only kept Eloise's secret because the baby had nothing to do with their parents' mess. "Whatever. As if I care," Jinx scowled before patting Cane's back. "Sorry for troubling you with such trivial matters, man. How about we?" The next words were incoherent as he and Cane left the room, leaving Eloise to her thoughts. When she's all alone, a smile finds its way onto Eloise's lips despite the situation, and she gently holds her stomach where her unborn baby is. She thought all was lost and everyone had abandoned her, but she was given a new blessing. A blessing that will serve as her strength, her miracle, her happiness, and her hope. "Hi, baby. I promise I will do everything to keep you healthy. You don't have a father anymore, but Mommy will love you with everything I have, and I will see you soon." With a renowned strength she didn't know she had, Eloise finished her task for that day, but with extra care. She washed every single piece of clothing and ironed them one by one before folding them in a lighter mood. When she was done, she was served her first meal in three days, and she was disappointed to see leftovers that were apparently ordered by Lilian. Still, Eloise didn't lose spirit and inhaled everything like she hadn't eaten in weeks. She didn't spare a piece of meat and made sure that her baby would be healthy. Those who saw her were shocked by the sudden change of attitude. Where did the weak and depressed-looking lady go? She didn't care about the disgusted look on their faces as she gobbled the food. From now on, she will be the Newtons' maid if they want to, but she will escape, and she will start a new life with her baby. She started the day feeling hopeless and depressed, but she found a new meaning to her life. A reason to keep fighting. A reason to see another day. And they will make it.
