Chapter Six: A Savior or A Foe?
Along with Eloise's plan to survive and get healthy, she knew it came with the prize of tolerating every member of the Newtons and biting back her pride.
Signing the divorce so easily for them to be happy? No! If they want to make her suffer, then Eloise is willing to do the same to them by not giving them what they want. She knew they wouldn't hurt her or kill her as long as she had what they wanted.
Eloise was woken up every day at seven a.m. and she didn't mind because she was used to waking up early anyway. Unlike the other maids, she still stays in the basement, but she cleans it up a little to make it look more like a room.
She was not allowed outside the mansion, and that meant she was exempt from buying groceries or whatever. That was a relief for Eloise, honestly. She knows how Lola shops, and she feels bad for whoever the maid is she takes with her. She was not even allowed near the gate without supervision, and by supervision, she meant the whole household. Every worker in the mansion is required to look after her and report any unusual behavior to the family.
When she first came to the Newtons as a maid, she thought they were respectful and lenient to the maids, but it turns out that even that was fake because, for the following days, she witnessed nothing but cruelty. Especially from Lilian, who acts like she owns everything and everyone. She was cruel to everyone, but she was especially cruel to Eloise whenever they crossed paths; sometimes, she would even summon her just to mock her.
Like what happened that Sunday morning the moment Eloise woke up.
"You called for me?" She asked her and looked around the pool where the other maids were cleaning, and the gardener was trimming the trees.
Will there be any occasion today? Eloise wondered.
"What kind of attitude is that? Are you forgetting your place?" Lilian snapped angrily at her; she was busy ordering people around.
"I didn't, but I think you did. No matter what position I'm in right now, that won't change the fact that our status is too far apart." Eloise told her coldly, and she couldn't help but feel disappointed at how they were changing how the mansion looked.
It looked like a castle before, but now it looks like a... horror house.
All the blood in Lilian's body rushed up to her head, and she wanted to slap the hell out of Eloise's face, but she stopped herself. Being an ambitious and pretentious woman, Lilian has been reading books on how to act like an elegant lady, so when the time comes that she's invited to gatherings, she will know how to mingle and won't be embarrassed.
"Whatever. Fighting you isn't worth it. I won't stoop that low." Lilian scowled and crossed her arms. "Anyway, I called you to tell you that you will be attending to my friends' and my needs. There will be a pool party later, and I want you to prepare. If anything goes wrong, you will not eat for the day."
"Noted, madam," Eloise answered sarcastically, leaving the despicable woman to help the others organize the party.
Some cleaned the pool and placed some balloons on it; others decorated the place with lights. The sound system was prepared, and Eloise guided the catering inside and helped them set up the table on the side. She saw light snacks and some champagne and wine. She couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, knowing how expensive they were. She wondered if Lilian had her own money to spend or if she was milking Jinx dry, but she didn't care either way.
She might have loved the man with all her heart until their second anniversary, but she feels nothing but hatred now. All the devotion she had disappeared into thin air, and she wanted nothing but to be away from them. Eloise needs to play her cards right. Who knows if they will let her go once she signs the divorce papers? Despite how greedy they are, she wouldn't be surprised if they were planning on getting rid of her, but she won't let that happen.
An hour later, the guests arrived one by one. Eloise was not surprised to see that they were all women. Some of them brought their own cars, while others were dropped off by their companions.
Eloise was never one to judge anyone by their appearance, but she dared say that they were Lilian's former colleagues, having heard of the despicable woman's past. Her ears almost fell off when they squealed like pigs in a slaughterhouse, like they hadn't seen each other for years.
Lilian toured her friends around 'her' mansion, showing them every corner and part of the mansion while saying that Jinx bought it for her. Eloise's guess wasn't wrong because Lilian's guests were none other than the girls she worked with when she was still a p********e. Some of them got lucky in life like her, some weren't so lucky, and some were still working at the bar.
When they were done, they hung out in the pool area while Eloise served them some drinks.
"Wait, is she that woman?" Natasha, Lilian's closest friend, pointed at Eloise, and everyone looked at her and recognized her.
"Yes, ladies, she is that infamous woman. Meet my boyfriend's other woman," Lilian said while laughing mischievously.
"But isn't she Jinx's wife? Isn't it the other way around?" Melissa, one of her friends, asked, and it irked Lilian, while Eloise remained emotionless.
Everyone looked at Lilian, expecting an answer, because they were confused as well. After all, they didn't know the real reason behind it, and Eloise doubted that she'd tell them the truth.
"Well, Jinx and I didn't really break up when they got married. I just asked for some space so we're still committed to each other. Imagine how hurt I was when I found out he married her just to get back at me. Oh, that man. But I already forgive him. You saw how he introduced me to everyone. You girls didn't know how hard it is for me to back off when I was the one he really loved." Lilian explained and pretended to cry so that her friends comforted her.
Eloise could only shake her head at her terrible acting, but she didn't try to defend herself.
The women's attention was diverted to Eloise, and they looked at her with burning eyes. They were still Lilian's friends, so they would naturally believe her.
"Then she was really the problem. What is she still doing here? Why haven't you kicked her out?"
Lilian wiped her invisible tears and sniffed. "She begged Jinx to stay here because she had nowhere to go. Her parents abandoned her, and Jinx is divorcing her. I feel really sorry for her." Right after she said that the guests automatically judged Eloise.
"How despicable!"
"She has no pride!"
"How could you let her stay here? What if she seduced Jinx?"
"Oh, Lilian, you're still so nice."
The last comment made Eloise want to vomit.
"Oh, let's just ignore her, girls. I invited you here because I miss you. So let's party!" Lilian screamed, and just like that, Eloise was forgotten as they all shouted, and the music began to resonate around the place.
Eloise was ordered left and right by Lilian and her guests. She was asked to bring them snacks and drinks when the table wasn't that far from them.
Halfway through the party, some of the guests are now tipsy. Eloise let out a sharp gasp when she felt something wet spilling on top of her head, drenching her hair and uniform.
"Oopsie, my bad. I thought you were a trash can. I guess I had too much to drink," Melissa said, and all the girls who witnessed it just giggled.
Eloise only sighed deeply, but it didn't end there. Some of them will 'accidentally' spill their drinks or food on her, while others deliberately bump into her.
Eloise left her post to clean herself up, but she didn't realize that she was near the pool. She was so busy wiping herself down that she failed to notice Natasha sneaking up behind her until she pushed Eloise, and she fell into the pool. The drunk girls cheered when they saw it, while Lilian smirked and calmly sipped her wine.
Eloise let out a gasp and started flailing. She fell at the deepest part, and she was never a good swimmer. She tried to swim to the edge, but she was starting to panic, so it made it hard to breathe and move.
While she struggles to keep herself afloat, she is watched as if she isn't fighting for her life. None of the guests or the maids moved to save the poor woman, who was starting to drown.
A few minutes later, Eloise began to sink, but she didn't stop fighting. She needs to live! She needs to save her baby! Someone save her!
It was like God heard her, and a mysterious figure took the chance that everyone was starting to panic to save Eloise. He helped her up and laid her down on the tiles before letting the other maids tend to her and disappearing into the night without anyone seeing his face.
