Chapter Seven: Caught
Eloise can still remember how everything started. Before it turned out to be a nightmare, it was a fairy tale at first. Something she had always dreamed of. The love she always wanted.
She grew up in a wealthy family in which she didn't have to do anything; she just snapped her fingers and everyone would do what she wanted. Despite this, Eloise didn't grow up to be a spoiled brat who wanted to have everything. She grew up to be someone kind. Someone who helps people.
She wanted to study nursing or even pursue her passion for baking, but her parents wanted her to take a business course. Being their only child, it's only natural that she will manage their business one day, but Eloise doesn't want that. In fact, she wanted to live a simple life. While most people will do everything to have the life she has, she wants nothing to do with it.
Growing up, she often volunteered for charity work. You will often see Eloise joining other volunteers who want to feed and help the less fortunate in different countries. Sometimes, she will even use her own money to fund it. Because of this, she often argues with her parents.
They wanted her to be the leader they wanted her to be, and to tame her, they thought about marrying her off to someone she didn't even know. Eloise has always been a hopeless romantic, and she hasn't fallen in love. She wanted her first love to be all butterflies. Perhaps something straight out of a fairytale. So how could she allow this to happen?
That was how she found herself, pretending to be a maid and even disguising herself just to escape the marriage. It was a disaster at first because she met Jinx, who was a jerk to her at first, but he was also the one who saved her from those who wanted to hurt her. Despite being enemies, she found herself falling for him, and they eventually became a couple. Jinx would surprise her, take her to places she wanted, and take her on romantic dates that would make her heart flutter. He rarely gets angry at her, and he is always the one to reach out. He showed her love that she didn't see in her parents.
She should have known that everything was too good to be true. Looking back now, maybe Eloise wasn't in love with Jinx, but the idea of being in love and the person he pretended to be.
She really thought God heard her prayer and gave her someone amazing to be her first love. Someone she would be with until the end of her days, but she was wrong. Oh, how wrong she was. They gave her to the devil himself.
Right after almost drowning, Jinx came, and he was furious when he found out what happened. He made everyone leave, and it also made Lilian angry because Jinx took Eloise's side and humiliated her in front of her friends.
One of the maids wrapped Eloise's body in a towel, and they helped her shivering body up.
"Did you have to send them away, huh?! What would they say about me now?!" Lilian furiously yelled at her lover, not caring that their workers could hear them. "What, did the thought of that b***h drowning make you realize that you love her?!"
Jinx breathed heavily to calm himself down. "Because you're stupid! What if something happened to her? What if she died before I—" He instantly stopped himself before everyone heard him. "Besides, you didn't even consult me with this stupid party of yours! How could you let those peasants in my house?!"
Lilian scoffed in disbelief. She was hurt by his insult. "Did you forget that I am one of those peasants, Jinx? And I told you that I would be bringing my friends here!"
Jinx felt no remorse about insulting his lover and turned to the maids instead. "Clean everything here! Tomorrow, I don't want to see a single piece of evidence of what happened here! And throw everything that they used!" He angrily demanded and stepped closer to Lilian. "Do not hurt her again, Lilian. Don't harm her until I get what I want. You don't want to see me angry." He threatened her in a low voice before leaving.
Lilian was left feeling hurt, insulted, and angry. She's trying everything she can to fit in their world, to be that classy and elegant lady that is perfect for him, but it seems like for Jinx, she was still merely a former p********e, and even her friends were treated like dirt. If it's his friends or Eloise's, they would surely be treated like royalty!
Her sharp eyes found Eloise. Who even saved that woman?! She should have just drowned and died! Lilian huffed and stormed inside, leaving the maids to tend to the mess and help Eloise sit and collect herself.
She sighed and tried to process what had just happened to her. She was humiliated... again, and she almost drowned, but a stranger helped her. Eloise blinked and looked around in an attempt to search for her savior, but could she find him when she didn't even know what he looked like?
"Did you see the man who saved me?" She asked Clarice when she walked past her while carrying some trash.
Clarice thought about it for a moment before shaking her head. "Everything happened so fast, and we were just all worried about you."
Eloise nodded and thanked her. When she's stable enough, she decides to help them so they can all retire for the night. She knows that they are as exhausted as she was.
For the next few days, Eloise could feel Lilian was avoiding her, but she would still often sneer at her and throw insults, but she didn't go beyond that. She was thankful for that. The other members of the Newtons don't often stay with Jinx, so it was only Lilian who was giving her a hard time. Jinx is often gone because of his projects, and for once, Eloise was thankful that he was an architect.
Her stomach isn't still showing, but she is often dizzy, and she tries her best to hide her morning sickness. She thought she was doing a great job at hiding it until she was caught by someone while she was vomiting on the sink in the bathroom in the pool. She uses it whenever she feels sick because it is rarely used by others, but not that day when she is followed by someone.
"Are you... pregnant?" A voice asked her from behind, and Eloise stiffened. She paled and slowly turned to look at the owner of the voice.
She held her breath and only sighed in relief when she saw Clarice. Out of all the maids, she thought she could trust her the most. Not only does she help Eloise when the Newtons do something to her, but she was the closest to her even before.
Eloise hesitated at first, her hand automatically placing itself on top of her stomach out of instinct to protect her baby. There was no verbal response needed because Clarice could already tell, being a mother herself.
In the end, Eloise sighed and nodded. "Yes," she said, then reached out for Clarice's hand and pleaded with her eyes. "But please don't tell anyone, especially not Jinx. I don't know what he'll do to us once he finds out."
Clarice gave her a reassuring smile that looked so sincere, and she squeezed her hand. "I won't. I am a mother too, and I would protect my child as well."
Eloise smiled, feeling grateful that it was Clarice who found out and not just anyone. She wasn't one to ask for payment, but she knew she had helped her and her family before, and in return for her kindness, would it be too much to ask for this?
"I promise not to tell anyone," she promised, and they smiled at each other.
Again, Eloise didn't know that she trusted the wrong person because, not long after she found out her secret, a member of the Newtons found out about it.
