Chapter 19

449 Words
Today was the day it would happen. Bunny will be put to sleep. Sally changes into a black dress she bought. Black was known as a mourning color and she found it in her closet and she put it on. She asked Max to take the kids to school while she goes to the hospital. Max agreed and Sally saw that he had also cried that morning because, for him, Bunny was dead while he was alive, but not for long. Sally entered the hospital in her black dress as she went to Bunny's room. She knocked softly and entered. There lay her sick husband, ready to die. He gave her a weak smile and Sally could already feel tears building and rolling down her cheeks. She sobbed before going over to him and grabbing his paw. “The doctor is on his way,” said Bunny softly. Sally just nodded and tried to be strong. It was extremely hard for her since she had to watch her husband die there on his sick bed. Then the door opened and there was the doctor, who was prepared to put the rabbit to sleep. He also seemed sad. But as a doctor, he had to do such things. Of course, doctors and nurses also have a hard time with such things as that. He walked over to the couple and looked serious. "Are you ready?" They both nodded. The doctor nodded back and went to prepare the vaccination. Bunny looked quickly at Sally and looked at her with pleading eyes. “Can I listen to your heart?” Sally nodded and lay down on his sick bed as Bunny made room on his bed. With this settled, Bunny pressed his head against Sally's chest, where he heard her heartbeat. Sally observed his behavior and expression and noticed that he seemed to become much calmer. She ran her hand through his fur on his head which was pointed down, and her other hand held his paw. The doctor had gloves on and walked over with a vaccine in hand. "Ready? You will die painlessly. I promise." Bunny nodded weakly and held out his arm to get the shot. Sally couldn't look when she started to cry and the doctor cleaned up the area before stabbing Bunny. After he was done, he put the vaccine down on the table in a metal container and watched through the heart monitor as Bunny's body began to shut down step by step. Sally cried louder as she heard the monitor go from beep beep beep to… to a long one, a sign that Bunny had died. Sally was devastated and she would never forget that.
