New identity
Kiera' Pov I made a life-changing decision a few days ago that may come back to haunt me in the future, but trust me, I don't give a s**t. Life had dealt me a worse hand than I deserved. But I was not going to let that break me anymore. I have moved on, rebuilt my identity, and given myself the chance to start over after grieving all of my losses. But there is one thing I will never be able to change; the trauma from my past, which continues to haunt me in my dreams. It was 7:15 a.m. The soft golden light filled the room, and I could hear the bird songs outside my window as I sat on my bed, staring at the email I had received yesterday. I could not help but have mixed feelings. I sent my forged resume to a few different websites a few days ago, and one of them has now responded, requesting that I show up by 10:00 a.m. today for an interview. After receiving numerous rejections as a result of my damaged reputation, perhaps changing my identity was not a bad idea after all. Having said that, I got up and moved to the bathroom, where I turned on the shower and closed my eyes letting the water caress my body. “You're a failure, Lana Thompson”. A cheat, Nobody wants you here freaking ex-convict. We were never your friends, you were just too stupid to realize it." With those words echoing in my mind, I turned off the shower and hurried outside. You must be wondering who Lana Thompson is. I am, or should I say, Was. There is no greater betrayal than that which comes from people closest to you. I still can not get over what Maxwell and Christie did to me, but that is a discussion for another day because I have an interview to prepare for. After staring at my closet for about 15 minutes, I decided to wear a black pencil skirt and a royal blue blouse, paired with black heels. Regarding my hair, I covered up my gorgeous long blond hair with a black wig, put on black-rimmed big-eyed glasses, and had braces placed on my teeth. Umm, I have to disguise good, so don't judge me. Taking a quick look at my table clock, I knew I would be late if I did not leave right away. Therefore, I quickly left the room after grabbing my bag and credentials from the table. The taxi I was riding in finally came to a stop, and as I stepped out, I could not help but look up at the skyscraper with the TitanTech Solutions logo on it. "I really hope everything works out for you, Kiera. It will be a good sign for a new beginning,” I told myself as I walked into the building. And as soon as I walked in, I noticed the receptionist's desk. “Hi, umm I am here to interview for the position of Mr. Cruz’s new assistant.” “Sure! May I know your name please?” The receptionist asked with a smile. “Kiera,” with a dejected expression, "it's Keira Martins." If I had not taken enemies as close friends, I wouldn't have had to go by an unknown identity. “Alright. Take the second lift. The interview is on the 30th floor. There, you will find one of our employees who will assist you." "Okay, thank you," I replied, forcing a smile. “Good luck.” The elevator was packed with men, which made the ride very uncomfortable. I couldn't help but feel like a specimen under a microscope. The men surrounding me were staring, their eyes roaming over my body with an unspoken intensity that made my skin prickle with discomfort. Their gazes lingered on my curves, their faces filled with a hunger that was both captivating and unnerving. At last, the elevator door leading to the 30th floor opened, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I stepped out almost immediately, and I spotted another receptionist and moved in her direction. “Hi, I'm here for the interview.” “Right,” she replied to me with a smile and handed me a number before showing me to another elevator, but she needed to enter a code for me to get up to the floor. I don’t know, but I started to feel this panic in me, and I started to question if coming for the interview was a wise decision. “Was I good enough? What if I get busted?” Thoughts began to cloud my judgment, but I must remain strong, backing out is not an option now. At last, the elevator door opened, and I mustered the confidence to enter the floor. As I took a small step forward, I was shocked by what I saw right away. There were so many female applicants, and they all looked stunning, but I also noticed that the clothes they wore were seductive. Then there's me. Though I would not describe myself as ugly, I did not look like them." Come on, Kiera; you got this." I muttered under my breath as I walked towards the chairs crammed with women, their gazes fixed on me. As soon as I sat down, I began to panic again and did not even realize that I was constantly tapping my feet. “Nervous, huh?” The girl seated next to me inquired, she was wearing professional attire similar to mine, unlike the other women. "Um, no, it’s just a habit”— I responded, while pulling a smile. “Hmm, quite a habit, I'm Josephine, by the way.” “Kiera.” “Are…” Josephine was interrupted mid-sentence when the elevator door suddenly opened, and a strong aura was sensed across the room. I turned my head to see what was causing all the fuss, and I was left completely stunned. Damn, it was a man, his looks were striking, featuring a perfectly shaped and proportioned nose, flawless skin, sensual yet innocent lips, and a brooding expression in his eyes. "That is the CEO, his name is Alexandro Cruz, and the other guy behind him is Ethan Stone, his right-hand man," Josephine whispered into my ear, seeing how lost I was in his presence. “How did you know? Isn't this your first visit here?” I enquired with curiosity. “Are you kidding? He's quite popular, very arrogant, and doesn't condone any form of foolishness.” The lady replied. Not only did he look gorgeous, but he also looked familiar, though I was not sure where. My eyes remained fixed on him as he and Ethan Stone entered the office without even taking a glance at any of us. The whispers among the ladies grew louder, and some of them even went as far as to redo their makeup, even fiddling with their breasts to expose more. In a few minutes, our numbers were being called. Slowly, one by one, everyone went in, but none came out happy. At this point, I was starting to lose confidence because some of the applicants even came out crying. What had the man said that made them cry? I was the last one waiting now. Seeing how many girls failed to make it, I was terrified. If they stood no chance, what would happen to me? I should have just stayed home and trusted my instincts. It was the sound of my number being called that snapped me back to reality. “ Number 28, you may come in”. I got myself together quickly and went in.
