Chapter 3: New job

Kiera's pov He became extremely enraged after I said those hurtful words to him. I had seen my ex-boyfriend’s face on him, which is what triggered my outburst. I couldn't take any more of his yelling, so I apologized to him and stormed out of the room to catch my breath. It felt like I was having a panic attack. I managed to get into the elevator and exit the building. “It’s not the end of the world Kiera, you can always apply for other jobs.” I made an effort to motivate myself because I knew I lost this one already. It had been a long day and all I wanted now was to cry and lay in bed, so I started hailing a cab to take me home. “Hey, Kiera! How did things go?” With curiosity in her eyes, Josephine, the lady from the previous interview, hurried over to me. With a small smile, I turned around. "Unfortunately, not very good. They said they'd let me know, but you know how that usually goes.” I had no intention of telling her what had transpired between us there. She gave a sympathetic nod. "I get it. Sorry to hear that. My interview wasn't exactly a slam dunk either. But, hey, it is not all bad news. They offered me a different position instead. It is not quite what I was looking for, but it is something." "That's great! Congratulations," I said sincerely, though a hint of pain lingered in my tone. She cast a glance at my cab, which was waiting beside me. "Listen, since neither of us is in a celebratory mood, how about we grab a drink somewhere? I know a bar. It's just a few blocks away. We can talk more and hopefully cheer each other up." I hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Yes, of course. A drink sounds perfect right now." I waved off the taxi, and we began walking side by side toward the bar. We had been at the bar for only thirty minutes, and we had already gone through three rounds of cocktail glasses. Josephine is hilarious and has a wonderful sense of humor. Since we arrived, I haven't stopped laughing, which feels great—at least I have not forgotten how to laugh without having to force it. Her average height, slim build, and short brunet hair all contributed to her attractive appearance. It has been fun all around, but I had to leave because I was exhausted, so I bid her farewell and wished her luck on her new job. As soon as I got home, I jumped into the shower and let the water run over my body. After sitting under the running water until I was satisfied, I changed into some comfy clothes, got some popcorn and a drink from the fridge, and lay down on my bed. I was munching on my popcorn and scrolling through t****k when my phone started ringing. Although I was unsure of the owner's number, I had to retrieve it as it might have come from other applications I had submitted. “Hello”? A male voice on the other side of the phone spoke. “Hello,” I replied. “Is this Miss Keira?” I hesitated for a moment, I couldn't really believe I no longer bear Lana, huff. "Yes, Kiera speaking." “Ms Kiera, I am Ethan Stone, Mr Alexandro's right-hand man. This is to let you know that you have secured the position. I would most likely need to train you, so make sure to report to the office by 7:00 sharp.” He ended the call before I could even say anything. I couldn't believe what I just heard. Did he just say I got the job? Of course, I was excited. I hurried out of bed and prepared an outfit and other necessary things for tomorrow. After spending several minutes putting everything together, I eventually collapsed onto the bed and went to sleep. ****** I had scheduled my alarm for 5:00 because I knew it would take me some time to get ready. It was 6:15 a.m when I eventually left my apartment. Luckily, as soon as I got outside, I was able to hail a cab. It took me twenty minutes to reach the tall, gleaming building. Wow, I was really going to do this. I mean, my heart is racing at 200 miles per hour right now. "Kiera, do not screw this up, you can do it. This is an opportunity for redemption." Taking a deep breath after giving myself a little boost, I entered the building. The interior was incredibly beautiful. There were white walls, sofas with tables on the side, and a massive chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Although I was here yesterday, I did not look around as thoroughly as I did today. As I was still processing what I had just seen, I turned to face the receptionist when a guy bumped into me. I was expecting an apology, but all he gave me was this snide glance. I chose to walk past him and ignore him, but he blocked my path. "You do realize that you have a flimsy attitude?" He asked, disdainfully. “Excuse me? That ought to be my line.” To judge me in less than a second, this guy has to be crazy. “Are you blind? You clea..” But he paused, and didn't finish the sentence. Why did he suddenly stop talking mid-sentence? And there seemed to be something behind me that he was staring at. Trying to figure out why he was keeping his dirty mouth shut, I also turned around. Arghh.. I made a huge mistake by turning around. It was none other than Alexandro Cruz. Why did he have to come to see me in this embarrassing situation at this moment? “Good morning Mr. Cruz,” that dipshit greeted him, but he ignored him and was just staring at me instead. He reached me, grabbed my hands, and pulled me toward the receptionist's desk. "Mr. Cruz, good morning." The lady at the reception desk greeted him. “ Morning”. This is Miss Keira, and she will be my new assistant, so remember the face and Ms. Keira, shall we proceed?" His voice did not sound like the fury of yesterday when he introduced me. Was this the same man I had met the day before? I mean, he had a huge ego, and now he's all clingy, or is he the twin of someone else? Just staring at him, I could not help but wonder. Before I could process what in the world was going on, or even gave a response, he wrapped his arm around my waist and drew me toward the elevator. Okay…what the f**k is happening!!!
