Lucky in Lexington

438 Words
It was midnight when she arrived at the Air Bed and Breakfast she had selected. She drove through a large white gate and what felt like a mile down the driveway. The directions had said to veer left at the pond and it wasn't long before she found it. It was a small house located in the middle of a huge field directly on the pond. She couldn't see much, but she followed the directions in her confirmation email and soon found herself under a deliciously soft comforter. It wasn’t long and she was asleep. Karis woke up with a start. It was so quiet! She had grown up on a apple orchard and had forgotten what deep sleep could be achieved when their wasn’t the sound of honking horns and the constant hum of people going on. She stretched, grabbed her toiletries and headed to the bathroom to start the day. Marble countertops and rustic wooden floors greeted her all throughout the house. The pictures made this place look great, but to see it in real life was even more impressive. The owner of the Air BnB was anonymous so she wasn’t sure who owned it. Probably some old tycoon who had nothing better to do than rent out their many properties. Either way Karis smoothed through her dark brown hair, perfected her makeup, pulled on her favorite pair of levi’s and walked out onto the porch to start her search for Mr. Triple Crown. She laughed at the little nickname she had given him. As she walked to the car she gazed out around her. No wonder they said Kentucky was the bluegrass state. Everywhere she looked she saw rolling fields of the most beautiful scenery she had seen in quiet sometime. As she hopped into her car and started to crank it up, the engine stalled. Damn it! She had left the interior lights on, and now it was dead. Karis knew how to jump her car off but how was she going to do that with nobody around? She was scrolling through her phone looking for any type of service to call when she heard a familiar sound. Was it a tractor? It was! Someone was coming. Karis ran towards the sound until she could see the big John Deer. She couldn’t exactly see who was in it but surely they could help her get her car started. Finally, the tractor saw her and turned in her direction. When the cab opened, Karis felt a shiver run down her spine at what she saw.
