Chapter 12

Chris was currently examining Sulem's face which made him even more pissed that he didn't beat man's ass after getting her in the car. She had a light bruise that could be gone over the days. Chris stepped away from his bed that she sat on and walked towards the bathroom. He came back out with a pain pill and reached over the nightstand and grabbed the new bottle of water. Handing them to her, Sulem gained the courage to speak. "Are you mad at me?" He gazed at her for a second before walking to his walk-in closet. She sighed feeling the urge to just walk out the room but she pushed that idea to the back of her mind. Chris returned with a plain black sweater and jogging pants. He threw them onto the bed and met her eyes. "Change then meet me downstairs." Without giving her a chance to reply, he walked out. He was mad. Sulem took another swig of water before putting the cap back on and setting it on the nightstand. She looked in his mirror he had set in the corner of his room and looked up at her messed up sleeves to her shirt. They were stretched out from Miguel grabbing her and dirt to when he smacked her to the ground. Her eyes then traveled to her cheek. She noticed a light bruise that will be gone over time probably close to a week. She pulled the shirt over her head and grabbed Chris plain black sweater and slid it on. After taking off her jeans she slid on the baggy sweats and folded her clothes and laid them on the bed. Sulem took a deep breath before walking out of his room and made it down the stairs. Once she entered the kitchen, she saw smoke floating in the air. She took in how Chris had his head down. Walking around the island counter Sulem laced her fingers together and stared at him, waiting for him to say something. Chris took a long pull from the blunt before putting it out in the ashtray. "Talk to me." He said before letting the smoke exit his nose. Sulem sighed and played with her fingers. She was very hesitant about talking about her lifestyle and especially her past. "What exactly do you want to know?" "Everything." Chris kept his eyes on her not once taking them away as he waited for an explanation. "I have a—let just say I was not always accepted for the person I wanted to become. I believed in helping others because the ones that are supposed to be close to you, like family, are not always going to lift you up. I was talked down all the time, people telling me I'll be nothing in life—" Sulem paused for a second as she felt tears at the brim of her eyes. She looked away from Chris and continued. "I'm a self made woman and I did everything to become who I am today. It was my ticket to getting away from my family." She sighed. "I had a high school sweetheart, Miguel Rodriguez. He was always kind heart and sweet and full of love" Chris jaws clenched. "My mother said he was not good for me but turns out she wanted him for herself. But it was too late. I walked in on the two having s*x in her bed and to make it worse, he slept with my closest cousin. When I told him I was done he didn't seem to go with my decision so he began doing weird things and—" "Stalking you? You don't have to explain anymore. By what you just told me, I can connect the pieces." He said before his hands went into a fist. "But why you didn't tell me he was following you and the fact that you went to go meet him by yourself?" Sulem sighed and walked over to him. She grabbed his fist and opened his hand, intertwining their fingers. "I didn't want you to get involved in something that would cause you issues." "Issues?" Chris raised a brow. "You punched the guy in public Chris. Someone could have recorded it without you knowing." "I don't care. That nigga put his hands on mine. s**t, be grateful I didn't beat his ass on the spot." Sulem smiled and pecked him on the lips. Pulling back, she took her thumb and ran it along his nice eyebrows. "Mine, huh?" "Yes mine." He said grabbing her butt with his free hand causing her to gasp. The two going into deep conversation, Sulem was actually picturing herself being with Chris. She loved how caring he was to her and what he did to Miguel. I...I think, I don't know Chris woke up with an arm wrapped around Sulem's waist. She had but no choice to stay the night. Her car was still at Dennie's and Chris wanted her to stay with him. He was not taking no for an answer. He slid out from under the covers and covered Sulem up. He then walked to his bathroom and did his hygiene along with brushing his teeth and washing his face. Moments after coming out the bathroom, his eyes locked on Sulem. It was crazy how she was making him feel the way he did. He didn't know what it was but he was actually feeling her. He was never good in commitment. He was so use to fvcking and ducking before but that was before Tasha. He was with Tasha for some months and that's when she started to get clingy and doing weird things. He broke it off when she assumed he was cheating on her for the tenth time. A few weeks later he went out with a friend who so happened to be a beautiful female and the psychopath Tasha was, she the next day shot the poor girl in the head, killing her instantly. He sighed as the thought of Tasha trying to harm Sulem came to mind. Sulem was a strong woman and did not seem to be the fighting type but don't let the kind heart and silent fool you. They always say watch out for the silent ones... Chris stared at her for a few seconds longer before walking out with his phone in hand. He decided to head down stairs to his weight room and work on his leg. His leg was so close to being ready to get back in the game and it was all because of that woman in his bed. His phone went off and his eyes widened a bit as he looked at the ID. "Hello." "Nice to talk to you again, Mr. Brown. I was calling to talk about taking your career to the next level".... **** "Stop it, Kelly!" Marina laughed as she felt Kelly continue to kiss on her. Chuckling as he pulled away, Kelly gripped Marina making her lean her back on his chest as they sat in her bed watching a movie called, ATL on BET. "So, I've been thinking...." Kelly trailed off. "Your always thinking." She stated as she intertwined their fingers. "I think we should make it—official." Marina felt her heartbeat beat unnaturally. She wasn't to sure they should be official. She turned to Kelly and saw that serious look. She sighed and moved away from him. "I don't know if we should be official." She said looking at him for a second and then off elsewhere. "We been together for almost a decent time and I—" "Decent? Look Kelly, I'm not ready to be in a committed relationship." Kelly nodded his head and got out of the bed. She watched as he got his stuff together. Confusion washed her face, "Where are you going?" "I got work to do at the studio and—" "Are you serious? You told me you had to be at the studio in 4 hours not too long ago. Are you really mad that I don't want to be in a relationship with you right now?" Kelly glanced at Marina and saw how she was becoming angry. "I'm ready to be in a relationship. I don't only want s*x, Marina." "And it doesn't have to be that way, Kelly. I want to be in a relationship with you but not now. I want to see how far we go. Just please...have patience." Kelly exhaled and walked up to Marina. Looking her dead in the eye he said, "Alright." He kissed her before walking out of her bedroom. Just patience
