ADA I wake up to the constant beeping of the machine. My head hurts a lot but the pain in my heart is unbearable. “You are awake, child,” grandma says as she rushes over me. Juliane comes forward to check on me. “How do you feel, Luna?” She asks. “I feel okay.” I lied. I’m not okay. It’s so painful but they don’t need to know. This is not a physical pain, it’s an emotional pain. I will face it all by myself. “I was so worried about you, my child. You’ve been sleeping for the past twenty four hours.” Grandma says with tears in her eyes. What! I’ve been unconscious for that long? “I called your grandmother after Owen brought you in. I didn’t want her to worry,” Juliane says. She’s done checking me and she’s looking at my chart. My palm moves to my stomach. I can’t feel any life inside me. “How’s my baby?” My heart is beating fast. I don’t know what I will do if I lose my baby. It’s the only reason I’m trying to stay strong and continue living through this pain. “Your baby is in a critical condition. I’m still yet to detect a proper heartbeat from it….” “What!” I cut in. I’m already crying as I touch my stomach. That can’t be. My baby can’t be gone. “Calm down, Ada. Your baby is not dead. Even if the heartbeat is faint, it’s still there. It shows that it’s still living. We just have to keep an eye on you and you take a very good rest. Everything will be fine.” I still can’t stop crying. I’m scared. What if everything won’t be fine. What if my baby dies. Werewolf pregnancy is different from human pregnancy. As low as two weeks after conception, we can detect the heartbeat of an embryo unlike humans which may take up to five weeks. If my baby’s heartbeat is faint. It shows that it’s dying and I don’t know what I can do if I lose my baby. “Your baby will be fine. Nothing will happen to my grandchild. I promise.” “I don’t want to lose my baby, grandma.” I sob. “You won’t.” Grandma pulls me into her arms. “I’ve given you the necessary medication. Your body is weak after the rejection. That's why it took you more than twenty four hours to gain consciousness. You just need more rest and continue taking your medication, everything will be fine,” Juliane says after I've calmed down. “Thank you Juliane.” I murmur. She gives me a gentle smile. “Grandma is the only one that knows that I’m here, right?” “Yes. She told me not to tell anyone you are here. I told Owen that you are fine so he left after bringing you in. What’s going on, Luna? What’s with the rejection and you also sound worried when we talked on the phone the other day.” “Juliane.” I move forward to hold her hands. She allows me. “I want to ask you for a favor. We’ve been friends for a long time and I really hope you will help me. Do you promise to help me?” “I promise Ada,” she says boldly. I smile tearfully. Whenever she’s serious, she tends to call me by my name. “I and Adrian are divorced and we have rejected each other too. He left me for Sarah. He was just using me all these years. He never loved me. He said it himself.” I can’t help but break down in tears again. “Oh Ada. I’m so sorry.” She pulls me into her arms as I sob. Why is it still so painful? I just want this pain to go away. I can do anything for this pain to go away. It's tearing me apart and it's not good for my baby. “Do you want me to keep the pregnancy a secret from him?” Juliane asks. I nod. “He might take my baby away if he finds out. I don’t want to lose my baby, Juliane.” “You won’t lose your baby. I will make sure that no one knows about your pregnancy. I promise.” “Thank you so much, Juliane. I won’t forget this favour.” “You are my friend, Ada. And not just that. You’ve been a great impact to this pack. You are a great Luna. You don’t deserve this at all.” “If I knew they would do this to my grandchild. I wouldn’t have let her get married to that coward.” “Grandma…..” I know that she’s angry but if anyone hears her talking ill of the Alpha, it will get her into trouble. “What do you plan to do? You know you can’t stay in this pack if you plan on hiding your pregnancy.” “I know. My grandma and I plan on leaving. We will live among humans.” “Oh no, Ada. That will be so dangerous. What if you get killed by rogues and lone wolf hunters.” Juliane sounds so worried. “I know but this is our only solution. No Alpha will accept us in their pack without wanting to know our previous pack, the reason we left and our true identity and you know that will be risky. Don’t worry, grandma and I will find a way to live among humans without being caught by the hunters. We just need to mask our scent very well and we will be fine.” “Just be careful, please.” “I will. I promise.” “But you will have to stay in the hospital for a few days before leaving. I need to make sure you are strong before leaving. And don’t worry, no one will know that you are here. It will be a secret.” “Thank you so much Juliane,” grandma says. “Luna is a good person, that’s why I’m helping her.” “I will use this opportunity to make arrangements for our leaving,” grandma says. “Be careful grandma.” “I will, my child.” Will everything be alright? Deep down in my heart I really want to believe that everything will be alright, but I’m scared. Oh! Goddess, please help us.
