Chapter 6

1010 Words
Sandi I was freshly showered and in my room getting dressed for my graduation ceremony. Standing in my bathrobe, I looked in the mirror as I gathered my hair up and pinned it. I applied make-up and focused on enhancing my eyes. I carefully checked my reflection in the mirror. Happy with how I looked, I got my clothes and began dressing. I had chosen to wear a pair of black jeans and a purple, pink, and white, plaid shirt. I pulled on a pair of black-heeled ankle boots to complete my outfit. Checking my reflection in the mirror, I had to admit that I looked good. All I needed now was the graduation cap and gown and I would be ready to go. Once I had adorned the black and gold cap and gown, I made my way out of my bedroom and headed out to the living room where my parents were waiting for me. "Oh, honey. You look beautiful," my mother gushed happily, a big smile upon her face. "She sure does," my father agreed, smiling happily. "Shall we go?" I asked. "Yes. Let's get going," my father said as he began to herd my mother and I out the front door and over to his black Escalade, which was parked in the driveway. We all got into the car, and a moment later we were heading to the school to attend my graduation. When we arrived at the school, my father parked his car in the school parking lot which was filled with cars. There were a large group of students gathered around the entrance of the school's auditorium, where the graduation ceremony was to take place. They were all laughing and talking excitedly as they waited to be led into the auditorium. It wasn't long before Mr Lewis opened the door to the auditorium and said, "Good morning graduates. If you would quietly follow me inside, we need to get you lined up in the order you will take the stage." We followed him inside in silence. I was surprised to see the auditorium was already packed with excited family members who were keenly waiting to see their families graduate. There were teachers waiting close to the stage ready to help Mr Lewis get the graduating students lined up in the order they would be called up on stage. It wasn't long after we had been put into position that the school's band began playing the school's graduation melody. Once the band had finished playing the graduation melody, our school principal, Mr Edwards, walked onto the stage and stood at the podium. "Good morning everyone. Thank you for joining us today as we celebrate the achievements and the hard work of our graduates for 2025," he said. Around the auditorium, people clapped, and a few even cheered for those who were graduating. "Now, I would like to take a moment to say how proud I am of the students in this year's graduating class. We have a lot of wonderfully talented students that will be leaving us and going on to bigger and better things. Some of them are talented in sports, some in the arts, and some are just natural-born academics. Each of them is brilliant in their own way," Mr Edwards said. "So, ladies and gentlemen, please join me in giving a big round of applause to our graduating class of 2025." The loud sound of applause echoed through the auditorium like thunder. When the clapping had ceased, principal Edwards began calling the students up onto the stage to take their seats. Suddenly it was my turn to make my way up onto the stage. I walked up the stairs, hoping the entire time that I didn't trip over and fall flat on my face the whole time, and made my way over to stand in front of my seat. Once I had reached my seat, I stood in front of it. And like all the other students who had stepped on to the stage before me, I had to remain standing until all the other students who were graduating had finished walking onto the stage to take their seats. Once all the graduates were standing in front of their seats, we were all asked to take our seats. "Students, you may be seated," Mr Edwards said, his voice ringing out through the auditorium. "Today is a good day for you all. A day which you all achieved through your years with us. Your perseverance and determination has seen you accomplish a lot. Today is a day you can all take pride in. A day of pure joy for all of you and your loved ones who have supported you all these years. Today is the day your future eagerly awaits you to take your next step and write your next chapter. When you leave here today, you will no longer be students of this high school, you will be young adults. Young adults who are destined for great things. Today is a day that you will always cherish. A day that you will remember for years to come, the day you graduated from high school. The day your adult lives officially began." As I sat there on that stage, I took in what Principal Edwards was saying. His voice was an incredibly odd pitch for a man's voice. To me, his voice had honestly always sounded kind of girly. I watched him as he stood there at the podium in his expensive suit. It was a black suit, and he had paired it with a white button-up shirt and a dark blue tie. His black hair had silver highlights through it. As I sat there listening to him speak, I realized that today would be the last time I would ever see Principal Edwards. It was the last time I would ever sit in this auditorium or walk into the grounds of this school. Once this ceremony was over, this school and these people would all just be pieces of my past.
