Breaking Barriers

Lyn is a simple girl. Her Father is working in a construction while Mom is a fish vendor in the village. Life is a bit miserable for her becauase she is the eldest child. Mom always go home drunk everyday and worst thing is she always gets into fight. She spends her entire childhood taking care of younger siblings and doing the chores at home. At the age of 16 she already knows how to manage everything at home and her siblings when parents are not around. Hi Lyn her cousin Jam called her. “It’s been a long time I did not able to see you!” You know what I already have a new boyfriend I am sure you will like him.” Jam said. Oh that’s good to hear! I answered. “You know what one of my boyfriend’s friend is looking for a textmate. Are you interested? Can you please give me your number?” Jam said. I am in doubt if I give her my number but decided to give it to her. I provided her my number because I also wanted to have a new friend. “You know what my boyfriend’s set of friends are from a rich family but they are so humble that’s why I love to hang out with them.” She continue. Are you sure about it Jam? Like you know that I am a shy type and boring I think I am not compatible with your boyfriend’s friend. I told Jam. “You don’t have to worry I assure you that he is a nice man. I even introduced our friend Dianne to one of their friend named Marco and both of them are dating now.”She said while smiling. Jam is very opposite to me. She can get along with different characteristics and she always have a taste when it comes to a boyfriend. I am happy for Dianne it’s been a long time I did not see her as well. I hope she is happy with her new boyfriend now. I said. Alrigt Jam! I trust you on this just give him my number and will see. Anyway it’s also nice to meet new friends. I told Jam. Bye for now I need to cook dinner for the kids. “Bye cousin!” Jam said. After the dinner I set up everything for the kids to sleep. Suddenly my phone vibrated. I check on it and showing 1 message received. I read the message ( Hi! This is John your cousin Jam’s friend. She gave me your number. Can you be my friend?) I smiled and responding to his message. We exchange text that night. We ask questions to know each other. We keep on exchanging text everyday, and after a few days seems like my day is incomplete without receiving a message or call from him. I feel that after a few days of exchanging text I am already comfortable with him. He already gained my trust but still I have this feeling that it is totally different when it is already in person. What if I did not meet his expectation? A lot of questions running on my mind. Anyway, why stress myself? I don’t have any plans of meeting him. So I decided to sleep.
