Pick Me

"Park Soo-Ha!" His name is called, in order of ranking, and as expected he had gotten 'Master Vocal' and 'Novice Dance'. The golden badge with the words vocal engraved is vastly superior in quality than the dark bronze badge which sits on the collar of Soo-Ha's track-suit jersey. To be honest, while those ranking high at the beginning received certain privileges, it was much more advantageous to be put in the lower-level classes. That way you could create a story. The biggest part of any contestants' journey, is his narrative. While some went with sympathy, others showed extreme skill. But the most captivating of them all was the underdog, the one who was a diamond in the rough. Something hidden and moulded by the views and dreams of the viewers. A good example of the underdog/black horse figure can be seen near the corner of the room. He was quite good-looking and composed even though he had just been given low grades. His story would later be broadcast, but the unfamiliar youth turned out to be a former child actor whose film was watched by over 10 million people. He would later quit acting after his parents' divorce and had finally gotten his mother's permission to become an idol. Seeing the composure in his eyes meant that there was probably a hidden deal with his agency which meant that the broadcasting agency already had his story written out. To the former child actor, this was just his new role and it would be his greatest comeback. That's only if he can show good results these next few days. Looking at his skills through the status window, Soo-Ha can see that he had the grades B+ and B for dancing and singing respectively. Hence, his placing in novice vocal and novice dance was clearly a ploy to show his rapid rise. Unfortunately, as Soo-Ha had no recollection of his debut it seemed like he was a chess piece that would be used to make a hot topic in the beginning but would later get thrown away by the production team. Soon after all the badges were distributed, a huge screen with a timer lit up. "Now boys! It's time to reveal the song you will be practicing over the next 10 days! You will do your best to master this song and present it to the viewers of Produce." It was a song that would be synonymous with idol groups for generations to come. Even Soo-Ha who had been busy with part-time jobs and practice around the time, remembered the chorus and choreography. It was at the level of the national anthem. Every household sang it, and the original centre was someone who was remembered in nearly every home, who ever saw the scene. "We all have dreams! But whether will achieve our dreams or not is always in question. Dreams make us forget the fear of the future, they wake up our potential and inspire us to hope again. Dreams heat up our cold hearts, make us burn with passion, and raise us up when we fall down. But in order to achieve our dreams, we have to overcome adversity, run through endless tunnels alone and fight long and lonely battles. And here you are.... trainees who want to achieve your dreams. If you have the support of someone in your long and lonely race, even if you lag behind or fall down sometimes, you will never give up on your earnest dreams. A bright star on stage, to achieve the dream, try your best every day! The song that will be the theme for this season, that will turn viewers into fans and fans into producers.... Pick me! Do you want to be the idol! Do you want to be the star! Pick me!" The catchy beat, and lyrics which were moderately overwhelming began to play through the various speakers situated across the room. - The moment I saw you (Pick me Pick me Pick me) My eyes were fixed on you (Pick me Pick me Pick me) A group of dancers appeared on the screen showcasing the choreography. There various shouts and subtle groans coming from here and there. Of course, Soo-Ha was no exception. The difficulty of this choreography was on the higher end for newbie idols. With only 10 days to practice, had this been before he knew he would be able to learn and blend into the rest of the unit, but he would not have enough skill to standout. The intro was the most important part with all these moving parts, if not executed with extreme precision, then it would be incredibly messy. The first verse went by in the blink of an eye as the chorus started. - Tonight, the star is me, it's me, it's me Only waited for you, it's me, it's me, it's me The person to steal your heart, it's me, it's me, it's me The last person, it's me, it's me, it's me Even 'that choreography' in the chorus seemed unnecessarily complicated that, it already eliminated 50% of the contestants from being 'main cast' members during this season. Looking at the screen once last time, before opening the Status window. Soo-Ha makes his mind up. Fine... let's just … not sleep. "Activate 'Late Night Degenerate'!"
