Small Squabbles

“CJ and I broke up.” She started. “What!?” I shrieked. That was one thing I was not expecting to hear from my sisters mouth. Her boyfriend Chase Jr and she have been together since diaper days. They were friends the first day Tessa went to elementary school until the day she graduated college, they moved in together and have been living together ever since. We all knew the story of how CJ couldn’t stop following her around, chasing away all the boys that so much as looked at her too long, all because he wanted her for himself and he was not afraid to let everybody know it. We all knew that one day they would both get married and have tons of kids because CJ was just that type of person. He wanted to be surrounded by millions of kids. It’s why he got into charity for kids and volunteering at kids help shelters in his free time. “What do you mean? What happened?” There was no way I was losing CJ as a brother in law. He was way too perfect to lose and definitely the right person to handle my sister’s weird personality. “I think he’s cheating on me.” She says softly. “You think? Or you know? Because if you broke up with over uncertainty then I’m gonna kick your butt.” I retorted. “I saw him Riley. I saw him at a restaurant with some girl. He was down on one knee and she was shrieking in happiness. He asked her to marry him.” She was wailing hysterically by this point. “Like where did I go wrong? I did everything a girlfriend is supposed to do. I made sure he was satisfied in every aspect of the word. I gave him something to chase after because you can you can never get too complacent or you’ll get bored. I did everything right. So where did I go wrong?” She cried into my shoulder. I felt really sorry for my sister and really pissed at CJ. There must be an explanation. Most would ask what kind of explanation for cheating on your girlfriend do you have? But I was the kind of person that saw the good in everybody even when the ugly was the only thing you could see. “Oh I’m so sorry sweetie. I’m gonna kick his butt the next time I see him.” “And that’s not even the worst part. He called me after I got home and he said he needed to talk to me about something important. I didn’t listen I just told him that we needed to go our separate ways. And that’s when I called you and asked if I could come visit.” She was letting out a hiccup between about every third word. Her eyes were getting ‘I’m so high’ red and her nose had that cute little blush color. But nothing about this situation was cute. CJ had a whole spiel coming his way about how I was gonna chop his liver up and serve it to him. Or maybe how I was gonna put his weiner in a grinder and call it pig food. The possibilities were endless. “I know this is gonna sound crazy but I think you should’ve listened to what he had to say before breaking up with him.” I say. “Oh, you mean like how you always listen to what Chase has to say and then you’re stuck in a never ending cycle of false ‘I love yous and you’re the only one I wanna be with?” she mocked. It was a low blow but I could see where she was getting at. She would always be the first person I called when Chase and I have fights and that is when Chase and I would have long conversations on the phone about how much he’s sorry and he loves me and the whole works of a cheating lying boyfriend. I really couldn’t argue with Tessa because she had a point. “Okay.” I nodded. “I’m gonna make my way to the supermarket now and get some stuff. Why don’t you cool off a bit? I’m not in the mood to argue and you’re not in the right state of mind.” I jumped up off the sofa and grabbed my keys off the coffee table where I threw them. I checked my purse to ensure I actually had cash in there (wouldn’t want to get to the cash register only to find out I’m broke), and off I went leaving Tess behind sobbing softly. I understood the phase that my sister was going through right now. I’ve been there so it was easy for me to know what she’s feeling. But she needed to talk to me without snapping at me and throwing my messed up past relationship in my face. I was so deep in though I didn’t even notice that somebody else joined the elevator ride. “You okay?” I jolted and snapped my head up to the intruder to see my hot neighbor. “I’m fine. Are you stalking me?” I questioned. “No. I just happened to be using the elevator the same time as you. I don’t know why though, I could really avoid bumping into you.” He smarts. “I’ll have you know I’m a very pleasant person to be around.” “I wouldn’t know.” He grins at walks away as the elevator doors open on the floor two levels below us. I curse him silently in my head willing my temperature to stay calm because being near that man I think I’d blow a gasket or something. I honestly didn’t know what it was about him though, he intrigued me and I loved knowing new things. He was going to be bad for me but oh so worth it.
