Chapter 25

I was sitting in my swivel chair inside my office and just staring at the pen on the desk. Katherine occupied my mind. I almost kissed her last night. But her nosy friend interrupted us.

I sighed when I thought about Katherine's annoying friend. Although Derek wasn't doing anything wrong to me, I felt annoyed with him. I didn't want to see him close to my wife. Is this what they call jealousy? Oh heck! I'm doomed!

Earlier, Katherine said that she would meet Derek. The man had a job to give her at the company where he worked. I wanted to tell Katherine to just work at my company. But she didn't know my true identity. I didn't know how to tell her the truth. She might suddenly take it so badly that I hid from her that I was the CEO of AB Empire. That I was not a car mechanic.

My deep thoughts were interrupted when there was a knock on the door and Dave entered my office.

"Your wife's father and stepsister are at the reception, boss. They want to talk to you," he informed me. "Should I let them into your office or kick them out of the company?"

I thought for a moment. Alberto humiliated me and my wife last time. Aside from stopping my company's cooperation with his small company, I haven't taken any other action against him yet.

"Go. Let them in," I ordered my assistant. "Let me hear how they are going to beg me not to stop our cooperation with his company."

"Yes, boss." Dave turned and left my office to go to Katherine's father and stepsister.

I took the mask that I always wore when I attended an event and didn't want other people to see my face. Although many people knew me and had seen my face, there were still people who didn't know me personally. They only knew my name but they hadn't seen my face.

I put on the mask and waited for my two visitors to enter. After a few minutes, Dave entered my office with my wife's two relatives.

"Good morning, Mr. Brixton. I am Albert Harret, the CEO of Harret Group," Alberto introduced himself to me. Obviously, he didn't recognize me. Besides, I was wearing a mask now and he had only seen my face once. He didn't know that the person he was facing now and the person he had insulted at his house before were the same. "This is my daughter, Lucy." He didn't forget to introduce his stepdaughter, whom he considered his real daughter, to me.

I grimaced when Lucy smiled seductively at me. She was wearing a sleeveless shirt with a low neckline, so the cleavage of her chest was peeking out. She probably thought her cleavage would help them change my mind.

My eyebrow rose when she deliberately raised her short skirt to show me her fair and smooth thighs. She was trying hard to seduce me to change my mind. Unfortunately, no matter how fair and smooth her legs were, she couldn't turn me on. She's not as beautiful as my wife. Even if Katherine wore rags, she would still be much more beautiful than her stepsister. Her stepsister is not worthy to carry even her shoes.

"What can I do for you, Mr. Harret?" I asked him, even though I already knew what they wanted from me.

"I won't beat around the bush, Mr. Brixton. I beg you to continue our cooperation. It would be a great loss to my company if my company's cooperation with AB Empire were to stop completely." Alberto Harret was very humble while begging me. Far from the arrogant look he had while belittling me because he thought I was just a car mechanic. But I know he was just acting to gain my sympathy.

I just stared at him and didn't comment on what he said to me. He glanced at his stepdaughter and subtly signaled her. He was asking for her daughter's help to convince me.

Lucy immediately understood what her stepfather meant. She smiled sweetly and seductively approached my table and sat on the edge of it. In doing so, her skirt became even shorter and her legs were exposed. I saw Alberto's secret smile. He probably thought his stepdaughter would succeed in seducing me.

"Please, have mercy on us, Mr. Brixton. I will do anything you ask me to do. Just let my father's company continue our cooperation." Lucy was begging me but her tone was not pleading, instead, it was seducing me.

Dave coughed slightly when he saw that Lucy was seducing me. He was about to stop the woman but I quickly shook my head at him and signaled him to leave my office. It was most humiliating if I turned down the woman with harsh words. Dave nodded before walking out of the office.

"Do you know the reason why I stopped my company's cooperation with your company?" I asked Alberto instead of paying attention to Lucy's seduction. From the corner of my eye, I saw her frown that I ignored her. She stood up but didn't move away from me. It seemed like she wasn't giving up on seducing me yet.

"I can't think of any other reason other than my other daughter and her husband." Alberto shook his head and his face suddenly became sad. "I know that Katherine slandered me to her husband, who is your employee at Casa De Tire. And her husband even has the same name as you. I don't know where I went wrong and she was able to slander me to you. But I hope you don't listen to what they said about me. All of that is just slanderous words."

"That's right, Mr. Brixton. Since childhood, my sister's attitude hasn't been good. We try to understand her. But as we let her do what she wants, her attitude only gets worse. Especially when she married that car mechanic. Just because he has the same name as you, he probably thinks you two are the same. He was very arrogant."

Lucy added fuel to the fire by slandering her stepsister. If I hadn't witnessed how they treated Katherine, I might have been convinced by their acting skills. Their voice and their faces look very convincing. I wonder how much my wife suffered in the past.

"Oh? As far as I know, Katherine didn't grow up under your care, Mr. Alberto. You kicked her and her mother out of your house because of your mistress. And I don't want to cooperate with someone who doesn't know how to value his own family and only favors his mistress," I said frankly to him.

"Don't believe what Katherine said, Mr. Brixton. All the things she told you aren't true. I didn't kick them out of my house. Katherine's mother went with her lover and took her with them," Alberto quickly explained, which was all lies. I already knew everything about the dirt of his family. The information I obtained after I had his family's background investigated was reliable.

"Katherine was a rebellious daughter and scheming, Mr. Alberto. Please don't believe her." Lucy approached me and intended to sit on my lap. But I quickly pulled my chair back, so the floor caught her instead. She grimaced and stood up with a frown and approached her stepfather.

"I'm sorry, Miss Harret. I don't eat food that is easy to get and that I don't work hard for," I told her. Her face frowned even more when she got what I meant. She felt insulted but didn't contradict what I said. She has no guts to talk back at me.

Alberto gave his stepdaughter a nasty look before looking at me.

"I hope you give my company a chance to prove that—"

"Dave!" Alberto was still talking when I called my assistant to come into my office. "Send the guests out."

"Yes, boss," Dave quickly answered before turning to the two. "Let's go, Mr. Harret."

Alberto didn't want to leave yet but Dave grabbed his arm and guided him out of my office. He has no choice but to follow my assistant. Lucy has no choice but to follow her dad.

"What a waste of people." I shook my head before taking off the mask on my face.
