Axel
"Did you see the news about what happened to Congressman Kroton's son, Boss?" asked my assistant Dave as we walked towards the restaurant where I had a meeting appointment with Mr. Kroton, the congressman Dave mentioned.
I stopped walking and looked at him. "What happened to his son?" I hadn't watched the news yet because I was busy with back-to-back business meetings.
"No wonder you didn't cancel your appointment with Mr. Kroton," Dave commented while shaking his head. He took out his cell phone and showed me some news.
I saw on the news that Mr. Kroton's only son was caught in an entrapment operation by special agents. It turns out he was behind the killings of women who were tortured before being killed.
"Mr. Kroton wants to use his connection with me to get his son out of prison." My eyes suddenly narrowed and my fists clenched. No one can use my name, especially if it will be used for something bad.
If Mr. Kroton tells the police that he has a connection with me, their chief will surely think twice about locking up Miguel Kroton even though they have strong evidence against that criminal. The police chief knows what I am capable of doing. Having a connection with me means that person is protected by me.
"A secret female secret agent disguised as a playgirl and lured Miguel Kroton to let him bring her to his secret room in his house. He doesn't know that he was already being surveyed by the authorities. He killed many women. He deserved to be caught by a woman," Dave commented again. His face was full of admiration for the female secret agent who made Miguel to be caught. I also admired that woman. Not many women could do that. It was very dangerous but she managed to escape unscathed. What an admirable woman. "What do you want me to do, boss?" Dave asked.
"Cancel all of our cooperation with the Kroton family," I ordered my assistant. "Make sure the media knows that we will no longer cooperate with them so Mr. Kroton won't use my name," I reminded him.
"Right away, boss," Dave quickly replied before carrying out my orders.
After Dave left, my cell phone suddenly rang. It was my wife calling me.
"Hello? Do you need anything?" I said after answering Katherine's call.
"Uhm, where are you? Did you forget that you're supposed to come with me to attend my grandmother's death anniversary? Or maybe you're busy. I can go by myself."
"No. I'm not busy. Are you at home now? Wait for me. I'm on my way home," I quickly replied and turned off my cell phone. Instead of going to my appointment with Mr. Kroton, I walked back to where my car was parked. I ran into Dave who was coming toward me. "Are you done with what I asked you to do?"
"Already done, boss," Dave answered with a smile and followed me to pick up Katherine.
KATHERINE
I had just finished getting dressed when Axel arrived at the house. I was wearing a white blouse paired with white slacks and white sandals with only an inch-high heel. My long hair was tied in a ponytail. A simple outfit but looks elegant.
"Are you ready now?" Axel asked when he entered the house and saw that I was ready to leave.
"Yes. How about you? Is that what you're going to wear?" Axel was wearing a matching white business suit and a checkered white necktie. He looked like an executive, not a car mechanic. And he looks so damn handsome. His appeal is so strong and his aura is quite intimidating. I suddenly felt lucky that I married him.
"Why? Can't I wear this? Do I need to change my clothes?" he asked with a furrowed brow. He seemed to have no idea how handsome he was.
I quickly shook my head at him. "No need to change your clothes. You look handsome in your suit." I couldn't help but compliment his appearance. There's nothing wrong with admiring someone's physical looks, especially since he's my husband.
I didn't expect what Axel did next. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him.
"You look gorgeous too," he said to me in a soft voice. "And seductive. Now I'm tempted to pull you into your room and—"
Before Axel could finish what he was saying, I slightly pushed him away and put some distance between us. I could already guess what he was about to say and it made me feel hot.
"Let's go. I don't want to make a grand entrance if we're late." I suddenly turned my back on him and walked out the door first to hide the redness of my face from him.
I immediately got into the car through the open door. But I quickly got out when I noticed the man who opened the door.
"Who are you?" I asked the man with a furrowed eyebrow.
"Ahm. I am..." The man seemed unsure of what to answer me.
"He is my boss." Axel's voice came from behind me.
"Your boss?" My eyes widened at what I heard. Why is Axel's boss here? And he was the one who opened the door for me.
"I picked him up from the airport. He just arrived from his business trip abroad," Axel explained. I don't know if I was just hallucinating but it seemed like I saw a hint of awkwardness on Axel's boss's face.
"If you are Axel's boss, that means you are Mr. Brixton, the CEO of AB Empire?" I exclaimed. I looked him up and down. It's not that I'm looking down on him but he doesn't look like a CEO. He looked more like an assistant. In fact, my husband looks more like the CEO than he does. "I'm sorry, Mr. Brixton. I didn't know that Axel was your driver today. If I had known that you were with him, I wouldn't have called him to come with me to attend my grandmother's death anniversary," I apologized to him.
"You don't need to apologize to him, Katherine. My boss is very understanding," Axel said to me.
"Y-yes. Boss— I mean, Axel was off duty now but I called him to be my driver," Mr. Brixton explained. Was he intimidated by me? Is that why he suddenly stuttered? I didn't know that the CEO of AB Empire could be so easily intimidated. I can't believe that someone with such a character managed to grow and make his company number one in the whole country. Well, as they say, looks can be deceiving.
"Let's go, Katherine. We are just going to drop my boss at his hotel," said Axel as he helped me get into the car. Axel immediately sat beside me while his boss sat in the driver's seat.
"Why are you sitting here? Are you going to let your boss drive the car? He's not our driver," I quietly scolded Axel. It's embarrassing for Mr. Brixton. We're already using his car and now we're making him the driver too.
Axel seemed reluctant as he got out and asked his boss to switch so he could drive the car. Mr. Brixton scratched his head and looked like he was only moving seats because he was force to.
"Just drop me beside the road. I forgot I still have somewhere to go," Mr. Brixton suddenly said when we were near the bus stop.
"Isn't it embarrassing that we're just dropping you off here, Mr. Brixton?" I asked him awkwardly. "Why don't you just let my husband take you to—"
"It's okay, Katherine. I can go by myself," Mr. Brixton quickly objected. "Your husband can borrow my car any time he wants to."
Axel asked me to seat in the front seat before he started driving away. I couldn't help but think. Axel's boss is so weird. It's like he's the one who's afraid of my husband when he's the boss, not Axel. Their relationship as boss and employee is very weird.
